FEBRUARY 2017Educating successful women of tomorrow in a Christian environmentTERM 1 3 FEBRUARY 2017 VOLUME 274From The PrincipalMrs Nicola TaylorWelcome to thefirst edition of theLion’s Roar for 2017.This is a milestone year for PLC Armidaleas we commemorate 130 years of highquality, all-girls education in Armidale.Throughout the year we will reflect onsome key aspects of the history of theCollege but in doing so will see somecentral themes emerging.Unlike the heat of this week, the weatherwhen the College was opened in January1887 was very wet, with 8 students atthe start of the week and 20 some tendays later, 4 of them boarders. Membersof the Governing Body at the time weresupportive of an education for girls morewide reaching in scope and depth thanwhat was traditionally on offer. Thefounding Principal, Miss Higgs believedthat “Knowledge is Power” and that a girl’seducation should span across years, witha curriculum diversified to suit the needsand interests of the individual student.Throughout all the twists and turns of thehistory of the College, changes of name, location, governance and leadership thingsof importance remain, a commitmentto academic rigour and endeavor, theempowering of girls to be strong-mindedand independent, excellence in musicalendeavour, active participation in sportand keen contributors to their community. We welcome our new students, theirfamilies and new members of staff to PLCArmidale and look forward to what thechapter in the College History marked2017 has in store.02 6770 1700 www.plcarmidale.nsw.edu.aujoin us on facebookIN THIS ISSUEFrom The Principal.1Senior School Notes.2Calendar of Events.3Speech & Drama Lessons.3PLC Senior Strings.3Recent Achievements.3Lunch Specials.4Pastoral Care Conversation.5Development and Enrolments.6Parenting Insights.73 FEBRUARY 2017 VOL 2743 1

When in uniform and out in the community, they are representatives of the College and the public see thegirls as PLC Armidale girls. If they respect the Uniform Policy itshows that they respect the standards and values of the College. We appreciate your support in this matter.LockersEvery girl must have a lock for their locker.
