It’s best worked in small areas, because if the stitches are too long, they may snag.Come up at point 1, then go downat point 2. Come up at point 3, then godown at point 4. Repeat. Always workthe stitches across the area you’re filling, coming up on the opposite side whereyour needle went down.010202FRENCH KNOTThis is a stitch that everyone should learn, because it’s so useful. The secret is tohold the working thread taut while youpull it through.Come up at point 1, then wrapthe thread around the needle twice.Holding the working thread with yournon-dominant hand, bring the needledown at point 2 (close to point 1, butnot the same hole) and pull slowly untilthe knot is formed.BACKSTITCHThis stitch is ideal for outlines, and it’s theone you’ll find you use the most.Come up from the back at point 1, thengo down at point 2. Come up at point 3,then go back to point 1 and bring theneedle through to the back.03LAZY DAISYUsually used for flower petals, this stitchis also ideal for embroidering tiny seeds.Come up at point 1, then go backdown at point 1, leaving a small loop.Come up through the loop at point 2,then go down at point 3 (next to point 2,but not the same hole).PORTRAITSTITCH GUIDEThank you for making this project from Mollie Makes. Whenyou make the ‘split’, go through thefibres, not just in between the strands.Come up at point 1, then go down atpoint 2. Come up at point 3, splitting theprevious stitch through the fibres, thengo down at point 4. Repeat.WOVEN WHEELThis woven stitch is easy to work andcreates stunning flower shapes. It’susually started with five spokes, but canbe worked with more, as long as thereare an odd number of spokes.Using straight stitches of even length, form the five spokes of the woven wheel– it should look a bit like a star. Bringthe needle up close to the centre of thewheel, then pass the needle over onespoke and under the next. Pull the threadthrough so it’s close to the centre, thenpass the needle over the next spoke andunder the one after that.Repeat, weaving the needle over andunder the spokes around the wheel.Once the woven wheel is full, bring theneedle through to the back of the fabricto finish off the stitch.Thank you for making this project from Mollie Makes.
