The BFG ExcursionOn Monday 31st October, 2016 a group of studentstravelled to Forbes to go to see The BFG at ForbesServices Memorial Club Cinema. Students from Room 1had previously been studying the novel The Big FriendlyGiant (the BFG) by Roald Dahl. Unfortunately the moviethe BFG had just finished showing at Dubbo and OrangeCinemas but after contacting the Forbes Services Cluband explaining our situation, they kindly agreed toscreen it again just for our students. Then, the floodscame through and roads were closed on the plannedexcursion to the cinema. Luckily, they happily agreed torescreen it again for us at the start of this term and thestudents were treated to a day out at the movies to viewthis amazing story on the big screen, with surroundsound, popcorn and a drink. This excursion was sosuccessful that the school received a thank you letterfrom Forbes Services for attendance and behaviour! Many thanks to the students who attended, and ofcourse to staff who made this all possible; Kristel Smithand Colleen O’Bryan.Well DoneAll this info and more@ www.condobolinhs.com.au7

Theindustries that have experienced the greatest growthover recent years are: professional, scientific and technical services (76per cent) health care and social assistance (75 per cent) education and training services (45 per cent).increased population levels. However, connectivity willbe the common denominator in all future jobs. The report outlines five distinct skill sets that representthe future of Australia’s workforce:1. The Care Givers: Care Givers provide support orpersonal services to the public or certain groups insociety. The ageing population and rise of women inthe workforce have increased the demand for CareGivers in the Australian workforce. Exampleoccupations: fitness instructor, social worker, beautytherapist, nanny.2. The Technocrats: Technocrats are central to theoperational design and production of future productsand services, and possess high-level skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics — and, inmany cases, entrepreneurship. Example occupations:engineer, computer programmer, medical researcher, web designer.3. The Specialist Professionals: Like Technocrats,Specialist Professionals fall into the ‘knowledge worker’category — a term given to professions that require auniversity education or technical qualification. WhileTechnocrat roles are often at the creative end ofknowledge work — designing new systems, productsand services — Specialist Professions tend to focus ondelivering outcomes and maintaining systems. Exampleoccupations: clinical psychologist, teacher, generalmedical practitioner, accountant, dentist.4. The Doers: This category includes tradespeople aswell as occupations focused on ‘people-related’activities, such as communicating with clients, orderingmaterials, allocating work and processing payments. The rising population and demand for infrastructurewill provide employment opportunities for manyworkers in this field. Example occupations: electrician, carpenter, personal assistant, sales representative .5. The Creatives: The final category includes workerswho seek roles for creative or lifestyle reasons, including flexible working hours; the ability to pursuean interest or passion in an entrepreneurial way; oropportunities to work from home, online, part time orin a semi-retirement capacity. Example occupations:photographer, fitness instructor, dietitian, makeupartist, life coach. Term 4 Assessment TasksYear 11 and 12 Assessments due MondaysStage 4 (Year 7 & 8) and Stage 5 (Years 9 & 10) advised by your TeacherAssessments at Condobolin High School in 2016There have been a number of changes in terms ofassessments at Condobolin High School in 2016. Part ofmy role as assessment coordinator has been to rewritethe assessment policy and implement a number ofchanges across the school.Students have all been issued with AssessmentBooklets; these booklets are also available on theCondobolin High School Website, for each Year Group. These booklets are an important document for everychild. They outline the assessment requirements foreach subject across every year, outline the proceduresto follow in terms of applying for an extension ormisadventure and include a copy of the Board ofStudies key terms. Some important information for parents and students: Each assessment task requires a minimum of twoweeks’ notice to be given. Students are expectedto sign a receipt of task at the time the task isissued. If a student is away from school it is theirresponsibility to seek out any missedassessments or classwork. No more than TWO assessment tasks should bedue in each week for any year group. Pleasecontact myself at school if this is not the case foryour child. All this info and more@ www.condobolinhs.com.au For any change of date of assessment your childshould receive a notification in writing advising ofthe new date. All submitted assessments and quizzes are to bereturned within two weeks. Again please feelfree to contact myself if this is not occurring, andthe assessment committee will be able toinvestigate the issue. If your child cannot attend school on the day ofan assessment, or has been unable to completean assessment due to reasons including –Sickness, Carers Responsibilities, Illness in thefamily, they must apply for either an Extension (Ifbefore the due date) or Misadventure. They needto collect these forms from Head Teachers andreturn with appropriate documentation to myselffor processing. We are hoping that by implementing new policies andprocedures, that assessments at Condobolin HighSchool, become more streamlined and meaningful forour students.Miss Melissa ReesAssessment Coordinator14
