How to Update to the Latest Published Versionof the MyUpdater UtilityBackgroundThe MyUpdater utility is a ClickOnce application which is used to download, update, and launch thesoftware products assigned to your MyCentre account. Each time you start the MyCentre utility, itchecks its original publication website to see if a newer version has been published. If it detects a neweravailable version, it will download and install the newer version into a new folder in your user space onyour machine, and then launch it. The older version is retained in its original installation folder. Common Update IssuesAfter a previous update of the MyUpdater utility, some users reported That they were unable to upgrade to the latest version, it remained “stuck” at the older version(usually 1.0.1.84), orThat they did upgrade to the latest version, but when they restarted the MyUpdater utilitysometime later, that it somehow reverted to, and launched, the older version.This document is intended to help you uninstall all versions of the MyUpdater utility from your machineso that it contains only the latest published version.Automatically Removing Cached Older VersionsNote: In order to do this, you must be running version 1.0.1.87 or better of the MyUpdater utility,otherwise you will need to do this manually as described in the Manually Removing Cached OlderVersions section later in this document. Known issue: version 1.0.1.88 might not remove cached versionson Windows XP. This issue has been addressed in 1.0.1.89.1. Launch the MyUpdater utility, and select Settings Detect cached versions2. You should see a list containing the currently active (running) version, and all other versions cachedon your machine. The active version will not be deleted. A typical report is shown below.3. If you have more than one version listed, then select Settings Remove cached versions.2
4. You will prompted to confirm the selection5. You will then be prompted to confirm the deletion of each detected cached version. Note that thecurrently active version will not be deleted. The prompt will be similar to that shown below.6. If the listed version is earlier than the current version, then select Yes to confirm the deletion of theinstallation folder containing the named cached version.3
Uninstalling the Currently Installed Version1. Launch the MyUpdater utility from the Start All Programs PSCAD shortcut2. Go Help About3. If you see the following version dialog, then you can proceed to the next section.Note: your version will most likely be 1.0.2.4 or better, not 1.0.1.86 as shown above.4. Select the Messages tab5. Scroll down until you see the Directory: line. This is where the MyUpdater utility is installed to. It willlook similar to the line belowOn XP:On Windows Vista or Windows 7:6. Go File Save Message Log to save the messages to a file. The utility will tell you where it saved thefile.7. Open the saved messages file in Notepad. This should be done before exiting the utility so you knowwhere that file is located. Please note that some of the folders may be hidden and you may need toconfigure your file browser to show hidden file and folders.8. Exit the utility9. Start the Control Panel to uninstall the latest installed version of the MyUpdater utility [Windows XP]:Go Start Control Panel Add/Remove Programs [Window Vista & Windows 7]:Go Start Control Panel Programs and Features10. Select and delete all listed MyUpdater installations.11. If you see the Maintenance options dialog similar to the one shown below, then select “Remove theapplication from my computer”, then select OK4

Manually Removing Cached Older VersionsThis is only required for version 1.0.1.88 or earlier!1. In the utility’s messages file which was previously opened in Notepad, find the StartupPath: or theDirectoryPath: line. It should look similar to, but won’t be the same as, the one shown belowOn XP:On Windows Vista or Windows 7:2. Open a file explorer and browse to the listed folder3. If that folder exists, it should have contents similar to what is shown below.4. In particular it should contain:UpdateClient.exe5. If this folder exists, and contains a file called “UpdateClient.exe”, then delete this folder.6. Next, browse to the parent folder of the original DirectoryPath folder. In this example, it isOn XP:On Windows Vista or Windows 7:6
7. This folder may contain multiple folders; each corresponding to various installed ClickOnceapplications and cached versions. A snapshot of my ClickOnce folder is shown below. Please notethat each folder name is unique to a particular machine. Your folder names may be slightly different.8. Some of these folders may contain older versions of the MyUpdater utility, which are no longer validand should not be run, and those folders should therefore be deleted or renamed.9. Manually check the contents of each folder. If it contains any files which begin with UpdateClient”,then that folder should be renamed by appending a “ old” to the folder name so that the .NETClickOnce manager will not be able to find it. Alternatively, you can just delete that folder.10. Repeat all the steps above for all the users on your machine which have installed the MyUpdaterutility so that their old versions are also removed.7
Installing the Latest MyUpdater Utility1. It is a known issue that if you simply click on the MyCentre shortcut, the utilty might not updateitself if there is a newer published version on our web site.2. To ensure that you have the latest version, open Internet Explorer tohttp://updater.pscad.com/updater. This should always work.Note: the latest MyUpdater version is 1.0.2.5 or better3. Select Install4. If you see the following File Download warning, select Run. [Do not select Save!]8
5. If you see the following Internet Explorer warning, select Run6. After selecting Run, you may see the following notification.7. If you see the following Application Installation warning, select Install.8. That should install and then launch the latest MyUpdater utility.9
What to do if Your Uninstall or Installation Fails1. If any of the described actions fail, please send in snapshot of any error messages.2. If you attempt to install or launch the MyUpdater utility, and encounter the following dialog,Then select the Details. buttonThis will open up Notepad with the detailed error report.
