Ankeny SummerFestAnkeny, IowaJuly 11-14, 2013(This information is only to date as of July 31, 2013. Given these factors, a few ways have been determined in order to gage the attendanceand impact SummerFest has on the city of Ankeny. This analysis will also be helpful indetermining what events were successful and what/where to improve for future years.Of course you are limited only to the information supplied by those willing to participate. Bycreating a relationship with these vendors, restaurants, and businesses, year after year they willbegin to see the benefit of supplying these numbers. Of course this information should be sharedwith those who participated and available for use by participants, chamber members, andcommittees.DEFINE HOST ECONOMYThe city of Ankeny is located in Polk County, Iowa and had a population of 45,582 in 2010.SummerFest is held outdoors at Prairie Ridge Middle School (formerly Northview MiddleSchool) and Prairie Ridge Sports Complex at NW Ash Dr. and NW Prairie Ridge Dr. FromAnkeny Blvd (Hwy 69) turn west on NW 9th or NW 18th Street. Appendix DParade CountDuring the Grand Parade the Marshals will be helping out the Chamber of Commerce in doing a“parade count” in order to determine the number of people that attend the SummerFest GrandParade. This information will be very useful and important in conducting an economic impactanalysis for the city of Ankeny during the festival. The Ankeny Police Department has marked off two 1.5 foot arrows pointing to the curb. As thebeginning of the parade nears your station, you will count the number of people standing in yourmarked off area. The only people you count are those who are stationary; not those who are onlypassing through at the time of your count. You will count everyone within your section as farback as you can.In the below depicted example, the Marshal assigned to that area would count only those withinthe marked area. In this example there would be 17 individuals watching the parade when theold police car started off the parade. The marshal will then record the spot they are located alongthe parade route (Marshal Number), the time the count was taken, and the number of individualswithin the market off area.MARSHAL NUMBER: 3TIME:NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS:EXAMPLEMarshal Number: 3Time: 9:10 amNumber of Individuals: 17
