NotesFeatured SpeakersDr. Waylon Bailey has been the senior pastor of First Baptist Church inCovington, Louisiana, since 1989. The church has grown in weekly averageworship attendance from 300 to 1900. Dr. Bailey is from Brantley, Alabama,and is a graduate of Samford University and New Orleans Baptist TheologicalSeminary. He has pastored churches in Alabama and Louisiana and served asChairman of the Division of Biblical Studies and J. Wash Watts Professor of OldTestament and Hebrew at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary from 1978to 1995. He is the author of five books and is a frequent contributor to biblical andpastoral journals. Dr. Bailey currently serves as President of the Louisiana BaptistConvention. He has also served Southern Baptists in various capacities, includingserving on the Committee on Committees and the Credentials Committee.He recently served as the Chairman of the Committee on Nominations for theSouthern Baptist Convention. Dr. Bailey is married to the former Martha Layton.They have two adult daughters, three grandsons and one granddaughter.Dr. Matt Buckles is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Vicksburg, wherehe has served since 2004. He is a graduate of Mississippi College and receivedthe Doctor of Ministry degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.He is currently serving as president of the Mississippi Baptist Conventionand serves as an adjunct instructor for New Orleans Baptist TheologicalSeminary. Denominational service includes 14 years as Director/Consultant forthe Pastor/Leadership Development Department at the Convention Board,various committees of the Mississippi Baptist Convention, and Committee onCommittees of the Southern Baptist Convention. He and his wife, Karen, havebeen married for 37 years and have two married children, Doug (Adrienne) andKendra (Thomas), and three grandchildren.Dr. David Eldridge has served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Clinton, since Mayof 2014. He received his BA in Christian Studies from Mississippi College in 2001,Master of Divinity from Beeson Divinity School in 2004, and a Ph.D. in preachingfrom New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 2010. He is actively involved inthe Mississippi Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention, havingserved on numerous committees of both. David is married to the former DanielleRobertson (who is a graduate of Mississippi College, BS in Elementary Education).They are the proud parents of Hayden (9), Luke (8), and Jonathan (3).Dr. Russell Moore serves as the eighth president of the Ethics & ReligiousLiberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, the moral and publicpolicy agency of the nation’s largest Protestant denomination. Prior to hiselection to this role in 2013, Moore served as provost and dean of The SouthernBaptist Theological Seminary, where he also taught as professor of theology andethics. Dr. Moore blogs frequently at his Moore to the Point website, and hosts aprogram called Questions & Ethics—a wide-ranging podcast in which Dr. Mooreanswers listener-generated questions on the difficult moral and ethical issues ofthe day. In addition, he is the author of several books, including Tempted andTried: Temptation and the Triumph of Christ and Adopted for Life: The Priorityof Adoption for Christian Families & Churches. An ordained minister, Dr. Moorehas served as a pastor for a number of Southern Baptist churches—most recentlyserving as preaching pastor at Highview Baptist Church from 2008-2012.
