Timalyn (?) will set up at approximately 4 p.m. Carolyn M.reminded all about the “fire arrow shoot” on banquet evening. The next shoot will be the North American Big Game on Saturday May 13th, starting at 9a.m., with registration at 7:30 a.m. That will be at the home course.Patti Johnson is handling trophies, Timalyn Enright is purchasing food, Jim Wagner iswrangling helpers for the shoot set-up.Carolyn M. mentioned that the club is out of 60 cm paper target faces.4

Mike McGraw asked if it is o.k. to continue JOAD program training through the summer[Yes!]Jeff Copeland showed around a mock-up of a possible sticker for cars that looks like thelogo used on our club camo t-shirts. The 4” size would cost 1.85 for 100 OR 1.35(apiece) for 250 count. Richard Brooks moved that the club purchase 500 but Jim Wagnercountered 250 would be better. Scott Whitlatch moved for 250 / second by Jeff Bahler.Motion carried and Jeff Copeland will place the order and give the bill to Kathy Wagner.*These stickers would sell to members for 2.00 apiece and 4 or 5 apiece to nonmembers at our shoots.Timalyn Enright requested 3 “meat & cheese only” coolers to be kept separate fromdrinks/general use coolers. Costco has good size for 40 each. Dale Johnsonmoved/second by Jim Wagner to approve. Motion carried and Timalyn will purchase atCostco.Motion to adjourn was by Jeff Bahler/Jeff Copeland at 8:00 p.m.The mantra is: “If you show up to shoot, also show up to help!”ONE ARCHER’S OPINION:FOCUS?All of us that have tried individual sports have received advice that we need to focus. Golf, tennis, handball, archery and such, it doesn’t matter if you are advised by someone else, including an instructor. You will hear that over again. “Focus”!Well the one thing that none of us that give that advice usually specify is on what to focusnow. When you are learning you have steps in your routine on which you should focus, sothat part of the process becomes ingrained. Once you have accomplished that, you shouldmove your focus to yet another area. Those steps of learning and practice should onlyabsorb your focus until you have them established as part of your routine. There is a mantrain some of the military: “We don’t practice until we can do it right, we practice until wecan’t do it wrong!”What we develop is a routine that we can repeat without concentrating on any particularpart. That is the goal, to be able to repeat what we do, again and again. You already havethe parts down pat. You have all of the physical parts working. You have done thishundreds of times and have focused on each part of the process again and again. But youhave been told over again to refocus. But now on what do you focus? Hitting the target? No! You should focus on the result! Not whether or not you hit your exact target, the gold, the ten ring, the green or cup, the low corner in the handball court, but what was that result?5

The thing is “Was that my best effort at the moment?” The result is not how well youscored on that effort. The result is that you are confident that was your best effort at themoment. Once you have done all the prep work to put together your routine the score is notalways perfect but needs to be the best you could have done at the moment. You will be told to focus. That is proper advice about the pieces and parts of what you do.However, the ultimate focus should be on “result”! Not did you hit your target, but did youmake a good shot? There are so many things that effect the success after you have doneyour part that you cannot include them in your assessment of your result. The result youshould seek is that you are comfortable that you did everything up to the point of the extentof your direct control correctly. The danger to avoid is to start making adjustments just because a good shot didn’t hit thetarget where you intended.Y’all need to shoot! That is not an opinion! That is afact! NOTE: Send what you want said, in some written form (e-mail, mail, hand written orwhatever) and we will use your opinion(s) related to archery.
