Learning for All – Whatever It Takes!ACTIVITIESActivities/athletics are a vital part of our curriculum at ImmokaleeHigh School.The administration reserves the right to denyadmittance and/or participation in any student activity for what hasbeen deemed as inappropriate behavior.Participation in activities is a privilege and not a right. Students whobelieve they will not be able to adhere to the guidelines contained in the"Indian Code of Conduct" should make the decision not to participate inextra-curricular activities.The "Indian Code of Conduct" is in effect 24 hours a day during theentire school year, from the first day of each school year until the lastday, including weekends, all holidays and vacation days. For thosestudents who participate in fall pre-school activities, the "Indian Codeof Conduct" becomes effective on the starting date for that activity.STUDENT COUNCILThe Student Council is the elected government of Immokalee HighSchool and is there to serve the students of Immokalee. They initiateand plan programs that support students and the academic programs ofthe school. Officers are always available to hear your concerns andinvite you to share your ideas whenever possible.The council also meets once a month with the student leadership teamand the principal. This provides a forum to exchange ideas and to putideas into action immediately. You are encouraged to join in on theexcitement here at Immokalee High School and to become a participantrather than just an observer.CLUB MEMBERSHIPMembership is voluntary; thus, students taking part in the activitiesprogram assume responsibility associated with these organizations.Whenever meetings and duties conflict with academic work, the studentinvolved is responsible for contacting the sponsor prior to the time ofthe activity. Accepting an officer's position in any organization is anIndians 8

honor, but carries with it additional responsibilities. A physical exam dated within one calendar year2. Verification of Insurancea. Copy of insurance cardb. Purchase of school insurance for specific sport3. Birth Certificate for all students new to IHS (once during highschool years)4. Completed Athletic Participation packet5. Drug consent paperwork6. Steroid testing consent (FHSAA sports)Indians 9

All equipment must be turned in before an athletestarts a new sport!ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITYIn order to participate in any interscholastic, co-curricular or extracurricular activity, a student must meet academic eligibilityrequirements. The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA)and Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) establish these requirements. CCPS/FHSAA requires that all students must maintain a 2.0 gradepoint average or above on a 4.0 scale in all courses during astudent’s high school career to be eligible during the next term.Students who do not meet this requirement for the spring termwill be ineligible during the first term of the next school year.Failure to meet FHSAA/CCPS standards will result in denial ofeligibility for 18 weeks.A. All incoming 8th graders are eligible for 1st term if they have beenregularly promoted to the 9th grade. Any 8th grader who isadministratively placed is ineligible for the first term of the 9thgrade year.TRANSPORTATIONImmokalee High School will make arrangements for transportation toschool related activities. School Board policy requires students to usethis transportation when provided and does not allow students to drivethemselves to out of county activities. Students who wish to ride withtheir parents after an activity must bring a note signed by their parentsto the administration for approval prior to leaving on the trip.ACADEMIC AWARDSAll Immokalee High School students are eligible for academic awardsbased on the following criteria:An Academic Letter is earned for cumulative weighted GPA’s of 3.50or higher during the three sessions of the school year. Quartergrades and exam grades are included in the GPA calculation. Studentswho qualify for the Academic Letter Award will also receive aPresidential Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence (gold)certificate.Indians 10

President’s Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement (silver)certificates are earned for cumulative weighted GPA’s of 3.00 - 3.49or higher during the three sessions of school year. Quarter gradesand exam grades are included in the GPA calculation.Departmental excellence awards are given to students in eachacademic area. Students are nominated by a committee of teachersto receive recognition as outstanding students in each subject area.Students with a grade of F in any of the three quarter grades or themid-term exam grade are not eligible for academic awards.IHS academic awards, district awards (PRIDE, Laureate and APScholars) and departmental excellence awards are combined andhonored in one ceremony so that underclassmen and their parents willsee the opportunities and set goals for future recognition. We invite,and encourage, you and your family to attend this prestigious program.ANNOUNCEMENTSAll announcements are to be e-mailed to the activities director, TonyAllen, on the day to be announced.BUS PASSESAny student requesting a temporary bus pass to ride another student’sbus must provide a written note from their parent/guardian, grantingthem permission to ride another bus for the day. The note must begiven to the Attendance Office prior to the end of the lunch period.The note must include the student’s name and student number, alongwith the parent or guardian’s name and phone number for verification ofthe note. If these conditions are met, a bus pass will be issued for thatday by Attendance personnel.CAFETERIA/LUNCH PROGRAMImmokalee High School participates in the National School LunchProgram and offers nutrionally balanced meals daily to students.Free and reduced price meals are available based on financial need.Applications for free or reduced lunches are available in the Curriculumoffice. No one may use anyone else's number. New applications must beIndians 11

approved within the first 10 days of school. Students are not permittedto charge lunches.Immokalee High School is a closed campus. Collier County School Boardpolicy does not allow students to leave campus during lunch. Studentsshall remain on campus from the time they arrive until the end of theirscheduled day. Food will be served in the cafeteria or at satellite foodstations in the courtyard. Students are not allowed to have commercialfood delivered to school at any time (CCPS Policy No. EFF). Studentsare expected to clean up after themselves and place garbage in thereceptacles. Violations will result in disciplinary action.During lunch students are free to go to designated areas of the campus.No student should be in an unauthorized area: parking lots, outsideathletic facilities and off campus. Students may use the time to eatlunch, see teachers for assignments, make-up tests, attend tutoring orclub meetings, make guidance appointments or transact business in themain office.Breakfast is served daily in the cafeteria from 6:30 a.m. to 7:05 a.m.Breakfast is available to all students.Prepaid lunches - lunches may be paid in advance weekly, monthly, etc.,by check, which must be for the exact amount of lunches. There will beno refunds on checks. Online payment is also available through theDistrict website. On the left side of the home page, click on “QuickLinks”, then “Lunch Menus”, then in the green bar at the top of thepage, click on “Parent”.CLINIC REGULATIONSA school nurse is on duty 3 days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thenurse will evaluate student illness, administer first aid and dispensemedications. The nurse will also contact the parents of students thatare ill.PLEASE UPDATE emergency phone numbers, contact and pick- uppermission data!!Indians 12

Students must follow these procedures when they are too ill to remainin Class:1. Students must obtain a pass from their teacher in order to beadmitted to the clinic.2. Upon arriving in the clinic, students are to submit their pass tothe nurse and sign in so their parents may be called and informedof the illness.MEDICATIONSFlorida statute prohibits schools from dispensing medication tostudents without a permission form signed by a parent/guardian.Parent/guardian must provide AND transport any medications to betaken at school. Students are not permitted to carry ANY medication,prescription or over-the-counter (including Aspirin, Tylenol, etc.), at anytime while in school. THE ONLY EXCEPTION TO THIS LAW ISINHALERS CARRIED BY ASTHMATIC STUDENTS, MIGRAINEMEDICATION AND EPI-PENS. Prior to carrying an inhaler, migrainemedication or an Epi-pen, a doctor’s order must be obtained, as well as apermission letter, which should be obtained through the school nurse.If a student must take medication during school hours, a lockedmedicine cabinet is provided in the clinic. All medications MUST be inthe original container with the student's name and dosage directions onthe label or container. Parental permission forms and a doctor’s orderMUST be on file in the clinic before any prescription medication may bedispensed. If a student requires over-the-counter medication, it mustbe kept in the locked medicine cabinet in the clinic. Parental permissionform must also be on file prior to dispensing over-the-countermedications.GRADING SYSTEMGrade reports are issued every 4-1/2 weeks during the school year.The following letter grades are used to indicate a student's progress:90 - 100%A80 - 89%B70 - 79%C60 - 69%DBelow 60%FIndians 13

Honors and AP Course WeightingFor purposes of establishing GPA, .02 bonus points per ½ credit inhonors or dual enrollment courses and .04 points per ½ credit inAdvanced Placement are added to the weighted GPA calculation foreach course in which a grade of C or better is earned.
