Getting StartedImportant Notice for TV color systemThe color system of this player differs according tocurrently playing discs.Only the multi system color TV can receive allsignals output from the player.yy If you have a PAL color system TV, you will seejust distorted images when using discs or videocontents recorded in NTSC.yy The multi system color TV changes the colorsystem automatically according to input signals.In case that the color system is not changedautomatically, turn it off and then on to seenormal images on screen.yy Even if the disc recorded in NTSC color systemare well displayed on your TV, these may not berecorded correctly on your recorder. Getting Started,,Noteyy Depending on the recording software & thefinalization, some recorded discs (CD-R/RW,DVD R/RW, BD-R/RE) may not be playable.yy BD-R/RE, DVD R/RW and CD-R/RW discsrecorded using a personal computer or aDVD or CD Recorder may not play if thedisc is damaged or dirty, or if there is dirt orcondensation on the player’s lens.yy If you record a disc using a personalcomputer, even if it is recorded in acompatible format, there are cases in whichit may not play because of the settings ofthe application software used to create thedisc. (Check with the software publisher formore detailed information.)yy This player requires discs and recordings tomeet certain technical standards in order toachieve optimal playback quality.yy Pre-recorded DVDs are automatically set tothese standards. There are many differenttypes of recordable disc formats (includingCD-R containing MP3 or WMA files) andthese require certain pre-existing conditionsto ensure compatible playback.yy Customers should note that permissionis required in order to download MP3 /WMA files and music from the Internet.Our company has no right to grant suchpermission. 12ConnectingConnecting to Your TVIf you have a HDMI TV or monitor, you can connectit to this player using a HDMI cable (Type A, HighSpeed HDMI Cable). Connect the HDMI jack onthe player to the HDMI jack on a HDMI compatibleTV or monitor.2Rear of the unitAdditional Information for HDMIyy When you connect a HDMI or DVI compatibledevice make sure of the following:-- Try switching off the HDMI/DVI device andthis player. Next, switch on the HDMI/DVIdevice and leave it for around 30 seconds,then switch on this player.-- The connected device’s video input is setcorrectly for this unit.Connecting-- The connected device is compatible with720x576p, 1280x720p, 1920x1080i or1920x1080p video input.yy Not all HDCP-compatible HDMI or DVI deviceswill work with this player.-- The picture will not be displayed properlywith non-HDCP device.HDMIcable,,NoteTVSet the TV’s source to HDMI (Refer to TV’s Owner’smanual).,,NotePlease refer to the manuals of your TV, StereoSystem or other devices as necessary to makethe best connections.yy If a connected HDMI device does not acceptthe audio output of the player, the HDMIdevice’s audio sound may be distorted ormay not output.yy When you use HDMI connection, you canchange the resolution for the HDMI output.(Refer to “Resolution Setting” on page 13)yy Select the type of video output from theHDMI OUT jack using [HDMI Color Setting]option on the [Settings] menu (see page22).yy Changing the resolution when theconnection has already been establishedmay result in malfunctions. ConnectingWhat is SIMPLINK?Some functions of this unit are controlled by theTV’s remote control when this unit and LG TV’s withSIMPLINK are connected through HDMI connection.Controllable functions by LG TV’s remote control;Play, Pause, Scan, Skip, Stop, Power Off, etc.LG TV’s with SIMPLINK function has the logo asshown above.Resolution SettingThe player provides several output resolutions forHDMI OUT jack. You can change the resolutionusing [Settings] menu.1. Press HOME (b).2. Use A/D to select the [Settings] and pressENTER (b). The [Settings] menu appears.3. Use W/S to select [DISPLAY] option thenpress D to move to the second level.4. Use W/S to select the [Resolution] optionthen press ENTER (b) to move to the third level.,,NoteDepending on the disc type or playing status,some SIMPLINK operation may differ from yourpurpose or not work.5. Use W/S to select the desired resolution thenpress ENTER (b) to confirm your selection.2ConnectingRefer to the TV owner’s manual for the details ofSIMPLINK function.13

14Connecting,,Noteyy If your TV does not accept the resolutionyou have set on the player, you can setresolution to 576p as follows:1. Press B to open the disc tray.2. Press Z (STOP) for more than 5 seconds.2yy If you select a resolution manually and thenconnect the HDMI jack to TV and your TVdoes not accept it, the resolution setting isset to [Auto].Connectingyy If you select a resolution that your TVdoes not accept, the warning messagewill appear. After resolution change,if you cannot see the screen, pleasewait 20 seconds and the resolution willautomatically revert back to the previousresolution.yy The 1080p video output frame rate maybe automatically set to either 24 Hz or50 Hz depending both on the capabilityand preference of the connected TV andbased on the native video frame rate of thecontent on the BD-ROM disc.Connecting to anAmplifierMake one of the following connections, dependingon the capabilities of your existing equipment.yy HDMI Audio connection (page 15)yy Digital Audio connection (page 15)Since many factors affect the type of audio output,see “Audio Output Specifications” for details (page58).About Digital Multi-channel soundA digital multi-channel connection provides thebest sound quality. For this, you need a multichannel Audio/Video Receiver that supports oneor more of the audio formats supported by yourplayer. Check the logos on the front of the Audio/Video receiver and the manual. (PCM Stereo, PCMMulti-Ch, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DolbyTrueHD, DTS and/or DTS-HD)

16ConnectingConnecting to yourHome Network2BroadbandserviceThis player can be connected to a local areanetwork (LAN) via the LAN port on the rear panel.By connecting the unit to a broadband homenetwork, you have access to services such assoftware updates, BD-Live interactivity and on-linecontent services.RouterConnectingWired network connectionUsing a wired network provides the bestperformance, because the attached devicesconnect directly to the network and are not subjectto radio frequency interference.Please refer to the documentation for your networkdevice for further instructions.DLNA certified serversConnect the player’s LAN port to the correspondingport on your Modem or Router using acommercially available LAN or Ethernet cable.,,Noteyy When plugging or unplugging the LANcable, hold the plug portion of the cable.When unplugging, do not pull on the LANcable but unplug while pressing down onthe lock.yy Do not connect a modular phone cable tothe LAN port.yy Since there are various connectionconfigurations, please follow thespecifications of your telecommunicationcarrier or internet service provider.yy If you want to access content from DLNAservers, this player must be connected tothe same local area network with them via arouter.yy To set your PC as a DLNA server, install theSmartShare PC Software on your PC. (page33)Rear of the unitWired Network SetupIf there is a DHCP server on the local area network(LAN) via wired connection, this player willautomatically be allocated an IP address. Aftermaking the physical connection, a small number ofhome networks may require the player’s networksetting to be adjusted. Adjust the [NETWORK]setting as follow.PreparationBefore setting the wired network, you need toconnect the broadband internet to your homenetwork.

Use W/S/A/D to select the IP modebetween [Dynamic] and [Static].Normally, select [Dynamic] to allocate an IPaddress automatically.2Connecting2. Read the preparations for the network settingsand then press ENTER (b) while [Start] ishighlighted.,,NoteNetwork will automatically be connected to theunit.If there is no DHCP server on the network andyou want to set the IP address manually, select[Static] then set [IP Address], [Subnet Mask],[Gateway] and [DNS Server] usingW/S/A/D and numerical buttons. If youmake a mistake while entering a number, pressCLEAR to clear the highlighted part.2. Select [Next] and press ENTER (b) to applynetwork settings.Network connection status is displayed on thescreen.3. Press ENTER (b) while [OK] is highlighted tofinish the wired network settings.

After connecting the playerto the home network, quickly power off and/or disconnect the power cable of the homenetwork router or cable modem. Then power onand/or connect the power cable again.2Connectingyy Depending on the internet service provider (ISP),the number of devices that can receive internetservice may be limited by the applicable termsof service. For details, contact your ISP.yy Our company is not responsible for anymalfunction of the player and/or the internetconnection feature due to communicationerrors/malfunctions associated with yourbroadband internet connection, or otherconnected equipment.yy The features of BD-ROM discs made availablethrough the Internet Connection feature are notcreated or provided by our company, and ourcompany is not responsible for their functionalityor continued availability. Some disc relatedmaterial available by the Internet Connectionmay not be compatible with this player. If youhave questions about such content, pleasecontact the producer of the disc.yy Some internet contents may require a higherbandwidth connection.yy Even if the player is properly connected andconfigured, some internet contents may notoperate properly because of internet congestion,the quality or bandwidth of your internet service,or problems at the provider of the content.yy Some internet connection operations may notbe possible due to certain restrictions set by theInternet service provider (ISP) supplying yourbroadband Internet connection.yy Any fees charged by an ISP including, withoutlimitation, connection charges are yourresponsibility.yy A 10 Base-T or 100 Base-TX LAN port is requiredfor wired connection to this player. If yourinternet service does not allow for such aconnection, you will not be able to connect theplayer.yy You must use a Router to use xDSL service.yy A DSL modem is required to use DSL service anda cable modem is required to use cable modemservice. Depending on the access method of andsubscriber agreement with your ISP, you may notbe able to use the internet connection featurecontained in this player or you may be limitedto the number of devices you can connect atthe same time. (If your ISP limits subscription toone device, this player may not be allowed toconnect when a PC is already connected.)yy The use of a “Router” may not be allowed or itsusage may be limited depending on the policiesand restrictions of your ISP. System SettingInitial Setup194. Check all the settings that you have set in theprevious steps.When you turn on the unit for the first time, theinitial setup wizard appears on the screen. Set thedisplay language and network settings on the initialsetup wizard.1. Press 1 (POWER).The initial setup wizard appears on the screen.2.
