Letter from the MayorMy fellow citizens of Macon-Bibb County:As the new year dawns, our community faces historic challenges andunlimited opportunities.Though the global pandemic continues to impact the lives andlivelihoods of every Macon-Bibb County citizen, we have cometogether to plan for a safe, prosperous and equitable future. As the first new mayor in 13 years, I spent the last two years talking withcitizens and visiting every part of Macon-Bibb County. I’ve heard yourconcerns, your suggestions and your hopes for our community. Now, itis time to translate these conversations into action.Recognizing the potential for this moment, community and civicleaders came together to create Macon-Bibb Forward: acommunity-driven, forward-focused mayoral transition team thatbuilds upon existing public engagement and visioning work toconnect those plans with the priorities of our local government.Between October 1 and November 30, 2020, the transition teamencouraged public engagement and solicited public input regardingthe priorities for the new administration through community-basedpublic meetings, an online survey, social media engagement, digitaladvertising and “On the Table” virtual events. More than 2,000 localresidents participated in this process, either virtually or throughin-person meetings. To complete their work, on November 16 and 17, 2020, the transitionteam participated in a two-day strategic visioning retreat facilitated bythe University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Thisreport incorporates information from the session, along with the inputfrom the community and the information from existing collaborativeplans to create a roadmap for the new local administration.Even as we face some of the most difficult challenges ever to confrontour community, I am more optimistic than ever about our future. Thisprocess has proven that the people of Macon-Bibb County are able toput aside differences, overcome adversity and join together to plan forour shared future. I have always believed that Macon is the best place, with the best people on earth, and I know that as we work together, our best days are in front of us, not behind us.Table of ContentsI.Transition Team03II.Executive Summary07III.Committee Goals & Action Items10L E ST E R M I L L E RM AYO R , M ACO N - B I B B CO U N T YIV.Look Ahead15
