It should not beused to collect blood from more than one person. The meter and lancing device are for single patientuse. Do not share them with anyone including otherfamily members! Do not use on multiple patients! To reduce the risk of electromagnetic interference,DO NOT use this meter near cellular and cordlesstelephones, intercom systems, electric garage gates, radio transmitters and other electrical or electricalequipment that are sources of electromagnetic radiation, which may interfere with the meter’s operation. For further information, please refer to:FDA Public Health Notification: Use of FingerstickDevices on More Than One Person Poses Risk ation (2010) Notices/ucm224025.htmCDC Clinical Reminder: Use of Fingerstick Deviceson More than One Person Poses Risk for TransmittingBloodborne Pathogens ck-DevicesBGM.htmlOwner’s Manual7

AutoCode Blood Glucose MeterDO NOT CHANGE YOUR TREATMENT BASED ONA SINGLE RESULT THAT DOES NOT MATCH WITHHOW YOU FEEL, OR IF YOU BELIEVE THAT YOURTEST RESULT COULD BE INACCURATE.LimitationsHematocrit: Hematocrit levels below 20% or above 60%can cause false results. Please consult your healthcareprofessional if you do not know your hematocrit level. For self-testing only. For in vitro diagnostic use only.Do not share your Prodigy AutoCode meter, test strips, lancets and lancing device with anyone, including otherfamily members.Do not use on multiple patients. The system should NOT be used for the diagnosis of orscreening for diabetes. The system should NOT be used in neonates. The system should NOT be used on critically ill patients. Not for use on patients who are dehydrated, hypotensive, in shock or in a hyperosmolar state.Owner’s Manual8

AutoCode Blood Glucose MeterAlternate Site Testing results should NOT be usedfor calibrating CGMs or for insulin dosing calculations when glucose levels may be rapidly changing orfluctuating, such as after meals or exercise, or after taking insulin.Do not use the Prodigy AutoCode Blood Glucose Monitoring System during or after a Xylose Absorption Test. This may falsely raise glucose results. Please check withyour Doctor before using the Prodigy AutoCode BloodGlucose Monitoring System. The system exhibits interference from Acetaminophen, ascorbic acid and Ibuprofen. If you are taking acetaminophen containing drugs (Tylenol, etc., 8.0 mg/dL in your blood), or ibuprofen containing drugs (Advil, etc., 50.0 mg/dL in your blood) or vitamin C (ascorbic acid, 5.0 mg/dL in your blood), you may obtaininaccurate readings from this blood glucose monitoringsystem. Please check with your doctor before using theProdigy Autocode Blood Glucose Monitoring System.High uric acid concentrations ( 8 mg/dL in your blood)may interfere with the glucose measurements withthis device. If you have medical conditions that areassociated with high uric acid level or hyperuricemia (e.g. gout), then please check with your Doctorbefore using the Prodigy AutoCode Blood GlucoseMonitoring System.Owner’s Manual9

AutoCode Blood Glucose MeterImportant Health-Related InformationSevere dehydration and excessive water loss maycause false low results. If you believe you are sufferingfrom severe dehydration, consult with a healthcare professional immediately. If you are experiencing symptoms that are notconsistent with your blood glucose test results andyou have followed all instructions described in this owner’s manual, contact your healthcare professional.Test results below 60 mg/dL (3.3 mmol/L) indicate lowblood glucose (hypoglycemia).Test results greater than 240 mg/dL (13.3 mmol/L) indicate high blood glucose (hyperglycemia). If your test result is below 60 mg/dL or above 240 mg/dL, repeat the test, and if the result is still below 60 mg/dL (3.3 mmol/L) or above 240 mg/dL (13.3 mmol/L),consult with your healthcare professional immediately.Inaccurate results may occur in severely hypotensive individuals, individuals in shock, and in thoseexperiencing a hyperglycemic-hyperosmolar state. Please refer to the test strip package insert foradditional important information.Owner’s Manual10

AutoCode Blood Glucose MeterAlternate Site TestingThere are important limitations to performing AST.Consult with your healthcare professional before testingwith a blood sample obtained from AST locations. What is AST?Alternate Site Testing (AST)means you can use parts of thebody other than your fingertipsto check your blood glucoselevels. The system allows youto test from the palm, forearm, upper arm, calf or thigh, withequivalent results to fingertiptesting. What is the advantage?Fingertips feel pain morereadily because they are fullof nerve endings (receptors). At other body sites, nerveendings are not so numerousand you will not feel as muchpain as you will experience atthe fingertip.Owner’s ManualFigure 111

AutoCode Blood Glucose MeterWhen to use AST?Food, medication, illness, stress and exercise can affectblood glucose levels. Capillary blood at fingertip reflects these changes faster than capillary blood at othersites. Therefore, if you are testing blood glucose levelsduring or immediately after a meal, physical exercise orstressful event, take the blood sample from your fingertip only.Use AST only: In a pre-meal or fasting state (more than 2 hours afterthe last meal). Two hours or more after taking insulin. Two hours or more after exercise. During steady state blood glucose conditions.Do NOT use AST if:1. You have reason to believe you have hypoglycemiaor hyperglycemia.2. Your routine glucose results are often fluctuating.Owner’s Manual12

AutoCode Blood Glucose MeterIntroduction to Prodigy AutoCode MetersIntended UseThe Prodigy AutoCode Blood Glucose MonitoringSystem is intended to be used for the quantitativemeasurement of glucose (sugar) in fresh capillarywhole blood samples drawn from the fingertips, forearm, upper arm, palm, calf or thigh. The system is intended for self-testing outside thebody (in vitro diagnostic use) by people with diabetesand is an at-home aid to monitor the effectiveness ofdiabetes control. It should not be used for the diagnosis or screening of diabetes or for neonatal use.Test PrincipleBlood glucose is measured by an electrical currentthat is produced when a blood sample mixes withthe reagent (special chemicals) of the test strip. Theelectrical current changes with the amount of glucosein the blood sample. The Prodigy AutoCode metermeasures the strength of the electrical current, calculates the blood glucose level and then displays theresult in milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) or millimolesper liter (mmol/L). (USA standard: mg/dL)Owner’s Manual13

AutoCode Blood Glucose MeterThe Prodigy AutoCode meter, test strips and controlsolution has been designed, tested and is proven towork together as a system to produce accurate bloodglucose test results.Important:Use only Prodigy No Coding Blood Glucose Test Stripsand Prodigy Control Solution with your Prodigy AutoCode meter. Using other test strips and control solutions with thismeter can produce inaccurate results.About Prodigy No Coding Blood Glucose Test StripsKey Functions of the Test StripThe Prodigy AutoCode meter measures the amountof sugar in the blood, commonly referred to as bloodglucose. Blood is applied to the opening of theabsorbent channel on the end of the test strip andis automatically drawn into the test strip.Owner’s Manual14
