The Class Leader MinistryWhat are class leaders? A class leader is a person assigned to oversee a group of twelve ormore members to discern their spiritual and physical well-being.Why do I need a class leader? Class leaders are the pastoral arm of the Church. It is verydifficult for pastors to know the whereabouts and well-being of all of their members at any giventime, which is why the class leader ministry is so vital to the effective functioning of the church. How can I find out who my class leader is? If you don’t know your class number or classleader’s name, you should contact the church office at (718) 452-3936 or via email atinfo@bridgestreetbrooklyn.org.When should I contact my class leader? You should contact your Class Leader when you are: SickIn the HospitalGoing through challenging timesIn need of prayer or communionYou should contact your Class Leader if you are: Having trouble working through faith issues or church doctrineIn need of spiritual directionInterested in learning more about the various ministries of your churchPlanning to join a new churchYou should contact our Class Leader if you have: Missed attending class meetingNot been in church for at least two SundaysQuestions about the sermon, church programs or activitiesRelocated to another geographical regionChanged your address or telephone numberJoined another churchYou should contact your Class Leader if you want to: Become more involved in the spiritual life of the ChurchJoin a ministry, auxiliary or choirReport the birth of a childReport a death in the familyThought to Remember .If every member of my Church was just like me, what kind of Church would My Church be?B R I D G E S T R E E T AM E C H U R C H 2 7 7 S T U Y V E S A N T AV E N U E B R O O K LY N , N YPAGE 5

be committedWorship Christian Education Fellowship OutreachWorshipWorship celebrates the divinity of God. It recognizes God for who He is, what He has done, and for whatwe are expecting God to do. God admonishes everything and everyone that has breadth (Psalm 150) topraise Him. We honor God when we engage in praise and worship. We honor God when we praise Himwith the fruit of our lips (Heb. 13:15); we can also honor God through our everyday tasks (Col. 3:23) suchas esteeming those who are in authority over us (Heb. 13:17) or submitting to our spouse (Eph. 5:22-23)or by not provoking our children (Eph. 6:4). As you can see, worshipping God is not limited to singingsongs on Sunday or lifting up holy hands in worship. Worshipping God is a lifestyle that requiresbelievers to be constantly and continually connected to God through the Holy Spirit.Christian EducationEngaging in a life that loves learning is not an option for the believer, but it is a requirement by God. 2Timothy 2:15 records, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him, a worker whohas no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth.” By embracing study of God’s word, believers are equipping themselves for not only sharing and spreading God’s word to persons in theircircles of influence, but they are also preparing themselves as vessels of God’s future blessings. In otherwords, the more we study God’s word and come into a knowledge of what God expects from us, the morewe tailor our lifestyle choices to align with God’s word. As a result, God will open up opportunities forus to serve him through our gifts that will bless and encourage others. Therefore, all members, especiallynew members, are expected to be involved in learning about God’s word so that they can draw others toGod through their Christian witness. In order to know God in an intimate way, believers will have tostudy God’s word daily, attend Sunday School, bible study, and Sunday worship services.FellowshipFellowship is a mutual sharing of our relationship with Christ with other believers. Hebrews 10:25records, “not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and allthe more as you see the Day approaching.” In order for believers to grow together as a fellowship, aconcerted effort to spend time together in godly pursuits will have to be a priority of the leadership. Suchfellowships might include small group study, men and women’s bible studies, seminars and workshops, and church outings. Our prayer is that you will make a concerted effort to be present at fellowshipopportunities that will help to create lasting bonds with other believers in your new church family.OutreachOur outreach signals to the world that we are the arms, hands, feet, eyes and mouth of God. When we useour financial resources, spiritual gifts and natural abilities (talents) to addresses the needs of thedisenfranchised in society, we are saying to them that God is not dead, God is alive, and he is usingChristians (those who believe in Jesus and the message of the cross) to draw sinners to repentance, and tominister to the social, psychological, physical, spiritual and emotional wellness of people. Each memberof Bridge Street is expected to join at least one ministry and to use their gifts to accomplish the mission ofthose ministries. Whether it is clothing and feeding the hungry on Wednesdays, visiting Rikers Island onSundays, visiting the ill and homebound on Mondays, every member of Bridge Street is needed to fulfillGod’s mission for the church.B R I D G E S T R E E T AM E C H U R C H 2 7 7 S T U Y V E S A N T AV E N U E B R O O K LY N , N YPAGE 7

SalvationSalvation is a free gift of a Holy God to a sinful world. It is obtained only by believing in the Son of God,Jesus Christ, and receiving Him into your heart. It is an act of faith. One cannot work his way to Christ, nor can a person buy salvation. It is a personal decision. No one else can save a person. Churchmembership is not salvation but should be a natural result of salvation. Salvation changes the heart, themind, and every part of a person. We become new creatures in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17).The “gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth” (Romans 1:16). It isthe “good news” of Jesus paying the price for our sins on the cross – and that is the power of God. Inorder to save man from sin and torment, God had to sacrifice his only Son (John 3:16). We need notworry about being good enough to be saved, because a person never reaches that degree of excellence. Ifwe could, we would have no need of salvation. Every person comes to saving grace in the same way “allhave sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).Salvation crosses all denominational lines. No religious movement of the Christian faith can claim amonopoly on salvation. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans10:13) Simply stated, Christians are saved through faith in Jesus Christ. There are four basic steps inreceiving salvation. They are Believe, Turn, Look, and Trust.1.BELIEVEBelieve that God loves you, and that He gave His only Son Jesus Christ to die for your sins and the sins ofthe entire world and through His death you will receive eternal life. “For God so loved the world that hegave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:162.TURNTurn from your sin to God. Many have tried to escape the consequences of sin, but turning to God is theonly way. The word repent is used to describe turning from sin. Christians must repent of their sin inorder to receive forgiveness for them. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive usour sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” John 1:9; “And Peter said unto them, Repent ye,and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus unto the remission of your sins; and ye shallreceive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38; “I am not come to call the righteous but sinners torepentance.” Luke 5:323.LOOKLook to Christ as the only provision for the forgiveness of your sin. Jesus Christ died on the cross to paythe penalty for sin in full. He died to bring us back to God. But God demonstrates his own love for us inthis: “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Even though we were dead in oursins, God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great love He had for us, gave us life together with Christ.Remember it is by grace and not by achievements that you have been saved. “For it is by grace you havebeen saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:5-9). Jesussaid, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes to the Father, but by Me” (John 14:6). God hasprovided the way, the only way, but man must respond to that provision.4.TRUSTTrust in Jesus Christ. By faith receive Him as your personal Savior. The bible says “Yet to all whomreceived him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John1:12). We must openly confess our faith, and trust in Christ Jesus. “That if you confess with yourmouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess andare saved.” (Romans 10:9-10) Right now you can have this new life in Christ Jesus, by receiving Himas your personal Savior.B R I D G E S T R E E T AM E C H U R C H 2 7 7 S T U Y V E S A N T AV E N U E B R O O K LY N , N YPAGE 9
