YOUR CHILD’S ATTENDANCEAbsences hinder a child’s progress It is a DET (Department of Education and Training) requirement that an explanation is givenfor every absence, late arrival and early dismissal. Absences can be recorded by you onCompass. Should a reason on Compass or note not be forthcoming, the absence will be recorded asunapproved. If your child is absent from school for an extended period due to illness, the teacher canprovide appropriate schoolwork for the child.REGULAR ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUAL ARRIVAL ENCOURAGES Positive work habits Positive social skills Reliability and responsibility.DE&T policies encourage school attendance. Their catch phrase is:‘IT’S NOT OK TO BE AWAY’.Each year of a child’s schooling is MOST important. It is inadvisable to send a childback to school who is weak as a result of an illness from which they may not havefully recovered. It is unrealistic to expect a sick child to learn. A child who has beenvery ill may easily catch other complaints if they have not regained their strength.Home is the best place for a sick child.LEAVING SCHOOL EARLYWhen you need to collect your child from school earlyyou MUST come into the office and sign out on theSchools Compass kiosk or collect an Early LeavePass to give your child’s teacher. Without this passyour child will not be able to leave. Please do not expect that your child will be waiting inthe office when you arrive, you will need to collectthem from the classroom. At no stage is anotherperson allowed to collect yourchild without your prior consent given to the office.Any person collecting your child must be a minimumof 18 years old.9 Page
