Santuario de San Antonio ParishWe Care Because We PrayFifth Sunday of Ordinary TimeFebruary 9, 2020May They Also Be One in Us:An Evening With Fr. Daniel Pilario, CMIn his talk, last January 24, Fr. Daniel Pilario CM,spoke on the theme, “Dialogue Towards Harmony,”wherein he invited the community to reflect on theirperspectives towards people of other faiths. Heshared that our Church today promotes a “spirit ofdialogue” through the actions of Pope Francis andother Church leaders. The past years have seensignificant acts of reconciliation and solidarity fromPope Francis with peoples of different cultures andexpressions of Christianity, and even with those ofother religions. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines(CBCP) theme for the year, “Ecumenism, InterreligiousDialogue, and Indigenous Peoples,” as well as theexample of Pope Francis, invite us to examine ourattitudes and relationships with those whose beliefsare different from ours and enter into dialogue withthem. This spirit of dialogue calls us to recognizeGod as the light of all nations, and members of otherreligions and denominations as models of faith. In itsPastoral Letter, the CBCP draws inspiration from thescripture passage: “Father, just as You are in me and Iam in You; may they also be one in us so that the worldmay believe that You have sent me.” (John 17:21)Fr. Pilario explored this theme further by presentingdifferent views people have towards other religionsand denominations, and the forms of dialogue wecan all engage in. Dialogue in these cases is notlimited to verbal exchange but can and shouldinclude action too. Although interreligious dialogue isoften relegated to academic and theological spaces,Fr. Pilario shared that real dialogue happens in the“rough grounds” – or in communities and the daily livesof people. To enter into genuine dialogue, Fr. PilarioSantuario de San Antonio ParishPhoto Credit: Catholic News Agencyrecommended developing the following attitudes:equality, sincerity, mutual trust, steadfastness andopenness, humility and being self-critical, and respectand collaboration. In entering into interreligious dialogue, we are calledto shift our view of other faiths from “paths to wells.”Even until today, many view the different faiths aspaths to God — different and separate though leadingto the same destination. In his talk, Fr. Pilariochallenged those present to begin thinking of faithswith the image of wells, where we recognize that wecan draw from the wells of other faiths and learn moredeeply about the great mystery of God from dialoguewith others. The talk, “Dialogue Towards Harmony,” is the first ofa series organized by the Education Ministry. In thesucceeding talks, the Parish community is invited toexplore the theme of the CBCP further, and to takepart in the spirit of dialogue alive in our Church today.Forbes Park, Makati CityTel. nos.: 8843-8830 / 31www.ssaparish.com

At the heart of this is “Dialogue Towards Harmony.” It is a theme that we believe evenkids can get behind, so we asked the students of Magnifikids (an SSAP Liturgical celebration for kids4 to 7 years old) to imagine a world with harmony and a world with peace. Here are what two of thestudents imagined and said about a world with harmony and peace. We will feature more in upcomingissues of the Parish Bulletin so stay tuned!DYLAN, 7 years old soonA world with harmony means helping friends domath questions, helping friends with homework, and helping friends train in soccer. During his homily,Cardinal Tagle spoke abouthow the Scriptures teach usto always give thanks to God,especially for gathering thepeople as a family of faith. He reminded the communityto thank God “for the callingthat we have received not justindividuallybutasonecommunity to witness HisGospel.”Photo Credit: CBCP News4Cardinal Tagle is the second Asianprelate to serve as head of theCongregation, following CardinalIvan Dias of India.Photo Credit: CBCP NewsManilaAuxiliaryBishopBroderick Pabillo led theCongregationinprayingover Cardinal Tagle as heknelt in front of the Church’ssanctuary. “Every departure, every separation, brings pain. But if we look at it on the otherside, we in the Archdiocese ofManila have been very muchprivileged in the eight yearsyou have been with us. Wehave been privileged that youhave been our shepherd,”Bishop Pabillo said on behalfof the community.Last December, Pope F y wolves, lions, and bears who appeared to be patientlywaiting. Another well-known story supposedly took placewhen he was being brought to prison. A woman whose sonhad a fishbone lodged in his throat stopped him. At Blaise’scommand, the fishbone was dislodged and the child wasable to cough up the bone.Blaise died a martyr in Sebastea, Armenia in AD 316, whenhe refused to renounce his Faith. At first, he was beaten, then was suspended from a tree, and his flesh torn with ironcombs. Finally, he was beheaded.Starting the 16th century, the ceremony of the blessing ofSt. Blaise began. In it, two candles are consecrated andcrossed before the congregation, and a blessing is givenby touching the throat of a person with the two crossedcandles. Alternatively, a wick that is consecrated in oil is putin contact with the throat of the sick.We don’t really know which of the many stories about SaintBlaise are fact or fiction. But the more important point toponder is: Saint Blaise is an example of someone who gavehimself entirely to the service of God. How can we be morelike him?Sources: franciscanmedia.org, britannica.org, and catholic.org5
