Learn how to stop the engine quickly in anyemergency.Do not allow children or people unfamiliar with theseinstructions to use the mower. Twist the stoneguard spring and insert the long leg ofthe stoneguard pivot rod into the forward pivot bracketof the cutterhead.3. Note: the roll pin should comefitted to the steering wheel ready for installation, if notpartially drive the roll pin into the steering wheel hub sothat it is almost flush with the inner bore.3. Rover Mowers Limited2.3 Installing the battery12.Remove the battery from the mower, and removefiller caps.Add 33% strength battery electrolyte to each cell ofthe battery until the plates are covered.CAUTIONDo not overfill the battery. Acid willoverflow onto other parts of the machineand severe corrosion will result.3.4.5.6.Charge the battery at 4amps/hour for a minimumof 6 hours.When the battery is charged, check that the plates arecovered with electrolyte, if not, add electrolyte to thecorrect level. Fit filler caps to battery.Refit the battery to the mower.Connect the battery leads to the battery: RED to thepositive ( ) terminal, BLACK to the negative (‑)terminal.2.4 Priming the Hydrostatic Drive (Refer Figure 2.3)CAUTIONThe hydrostatic drive must be primedby an authorised Rover Service Dealerbefore initial use.1.2.3.Move the Dump Valve to the freewheel position.Start the engine and release the brake clutch.Move the throttle control to approximately ½throttle.3.CONTROLS3.1 Throttle control (Refer Figure 3. 1)Mounted on the left hand side of the dash panel. (Figure 3.2)4.BEFORE STARTING4.1 Engine lubricationThe engine oil level must be checked before attemptingto start the engine. Refer to the engine manufacturer’sinstructions.1 . The engine will not start unless:a) The drive selector is in the neutral position.b) The cutterhead is disengaged.c) The brake clutch pedal is depressed and the parkingBrake locked on.d) The operator is seated.2. The engine will stop if the operator leaves the seat withthe drive selector engaged and/or the cutterhead engagedand or the park brake is not locked on.WARNING1. DO NOT operate the mower if thesafety system becomes defective.Contact the nearest Rover authorisedservice dealer or agent to rectify theproblem.2. Tip the seat forward and loosen the four seatretaining bolts.2. Slide the seat forward or back to suit the operator.3. Do not use a jerkingmotion. Moving these controls too fast could possibly overload and stall the engine.CAUTIONTo avoid loss of control always come to acomplete stop before changingdirection and slow down before turning.6.20 Safety Interlock adjustmentBrake Clutch safety switch (refer to Figure 6.11)1. Depress the brake clutch pedal and lock parkingbrake on.2. Loosen the spring tab retaining bolt and adjust theposition of the spring tab located on the park brake rod,to give a clearance of 6mm between the safety switchbody and the spring tab.3.
