About the LabelManager 150 LabelmakerWith the LabelManager 150 labelmaker, you cancreate a wide variety of high-quality, self-adhesivelabels. You can choose to print your labels in manydifferent sizes and styles. The labelmaker uses DYMOD1 tape cassettes in widths of 1/4” (6 mm), 3/8”(9 mm), or 1/2” (12 mm). These tape cassettes areavailable in a wide range of colors.Visit www.dymo.com for information on obtainingtapes and accessories for your labelmaker.Figure 2Warranty RegistrationAttaching the Power AdapterPlease complete the warranty registration card andreturn it to the appropriate customer service addresswithin seven days. See the Warranty booklet fordetails.Connecting the power adapter to the labelmakerdisconnects power from the batteries.To connect the power adapter1. Plug the power adapter into the power connectoron the top, left side of the printer.Getting StartedFollow the instructions in this section to get startedprinting your first label.Inserting the BatteriesThe labelmaker uses five (5) AA batteries.To insert the batteries1. Press the thumb catch to open the battery accessdoor. See Figure 2.2. Insert the batteries following the polarity markings( and –).3. Close the access door.! Remove the batteries if the printer will not beused for a long period of time.2. Plug the other end of the power adapter into apower outlet.! Make sure you disconnect the labelmaker fromthe power adapter before you unplug the adapter fromthe main power source. Otherwise, the most recentmemory settings will be lost.Inserting the Tape CassetteYour printer comes with one label tape cassette.Additional tape cassettes can be purchased throughthe DYMO Web site at www.dymo.com or through yourlocal office supply retailer.To insert the tape cassette1. Press the thumb catch to open the tape cassettedoor.! The first time you use the printer, remove theprotective cardboard insert from between the printhead and pinch roller. See Figure 3.3

You are now ready to print your first label!RemoveCardboardCassette SwitchPrinting Your First Label 6 mm 9/12 mm 19/24 mmFigure 32. Set the cassette switch for the size of the tapecassette that you are inserting. See Figure 3.A notch in the cassette will fit over the switch whenit is in the correct position.3. Make sure the tape and ribbon are taut across themouth of the cassette and that the tape passesbetween the guideposts. If necessary, turn the spoolclockwise to tighten the ribbon.4. Insert the cassette with the tape and ribbonpositioned between the print head and pinch roller.See Figure 4.To print a label1. Press the ON/OFF button.2. Enter text to create a simple label.3. Press the Print button to print the label.4. Press the Cutter button and then remove the labelfrom the printer.Congratulations! You have printed your first label.Continue reading to learn more about the font, styles,and formatting options available with the labelmaker.Getting to Know Your PrinterThe following sections describe each feature in detail.Become familiar with the location of the feature andfunction keys on your labelmaker. See Figure 1.The DisplayThe labelmaker’s LCD display typically shows a row ofthirteen characters. However, you can enter up to 99characters and spaces. The display is similar to awindow that scrolls across the text. (See Figure 5.) Press firmly until cassette clicks into place. Makesure tape and ribbon are positioned correctly.6. Close the tape cassette door.4In addition, feature indicators appear on the display tolet you know when a feature is selected. On/OffCancelThe On/Off button switches the power on and off. Ifno keys are pressed after two minutes, the power isswitched off automatically. The last label created isremembered and displayed when the power is turnedback on. The previously selected style settings are alsorestored.The Cancel key allows you to exit from a menuwithout making a selection or to cancel an action.Upper and Lower CaseThe CAPS key toggles capitalization on and off. WhenCAPS mode is turned on, the CAPS indicator is shownon the display and all letters that you type will becapitalized. When CAPS mode is off, all letters typedappear in lower case.ShiftThe Shift key, when used in combination with analphabet key, changes the case of the selected letter.When used in combination with number keys orfunction keys, the Shift key selects the alternatefunction shown on the key. For example, when youpress Backspace, the character to the left of thecursor is deleted; however, when you pressShift-Backspace together, the entire label text andformatting is deleted and the display is ready for youto type a new label.SpacebarThe Spacebar inserts one or more blank spaces toyour text.BackspaceBackspace removes the character to the left of thecursor. Shift-Backspace clears the entire label textand formatting.Navigation KeysYou can review and edit your label using the Left andRight arrow keys. You can navigate through the menuselections using the Up and Down arrow keys. Youthen press OK to make your selection.Formatting Your LabelYou can choose from a number of formatting optionsto enhance the appearance of your labels.! The labelmaker remembers the last featureselection made so that each time you enter one of thefeature menus described in this section, you arepositioned at the last item selected from that menu.Changing the Font SizeThree font sizes are available for your labels: Narrow,Normal, and Wide. When you specify a font size, thatsize applies to all characters on the label.To set the font size1. Press the Font/Fixed Length key.2. Use the arrow keys to move to the desired font andthen press OK.Adding Font StylesYou can choose from six different font styles to apply toyour text:ItalicBold5

Only one style can be used at a time. Styles can be usedwith all alphanumeric characters and most symbols.See Adding Symbols on page 6 for more informationon printing symbols.To set the font style1. Press the Style key.2. Use the arrow keys to move to the desired style andthen press OK.An end of line character is placed at the end of thefirst line in the display, but will not print on thelabel.2. Type the text for the second line.3. Press Shift-Print.The labels are printed, each label with the last numberincremented by one.Framing Your TextThe labelmaker allows you to add symbols and otherspecial characters to your labels.You can further highlight your text by choosing aframe or underline style. A label can be underlined orenclosed in a box, but not both together. The stylesavailable are show in Figure 7.DYMOUsing Symbols & Special CharactersAdding SymbolsThe labelmaker supports the extended symbol set asshown in the following table.DYMODYMODYMODYMODYMOFigure 7To set the frame style1. Use the arrow keys to move to the desired framestyle and then press OK.On two lines labels, both lines are underlined.However, both lines are enclosed in a single box for thebox styles.1ABCDEFGHIJ245 @&#%‰!?¡¿'",.;:/ -*() {}[\] § ’½¼¾Ωλµ K Creating Two-Line LabelsL You can create two-line labels using 3/8” (9 mm) or 1/2” (12 mm) label tape. 1/4” (6 mm) labels are limitedto one line.To create a two-line label1. Type the text for the first line, and press Return.MN63kTo add a symbol1. Press Symbol. The first row of symbols shown inthe table appears in the display.

2. Use the arrow keys to move to the desired symbol.The left and right arrows move horizontally along arow of symbols. The up and down arrow keys scrollvertically through the rows of symbols. To quicklysee a row of symbols, you can press the lettercorresponding to the row you want.3. When you locate the desired symbol, press OK toadd the symbol to your label text.Adding International CharactersThe labelmaker supports the extended Latin characterset using RACE technology.Similar to using a mobilephone keypad, if you type a letter multiple timeswithin a very short time, you will scroll throughvariations on that letter.For example, if you repeatedly press the letter a, youwill see a à á â ã ä å and so on through all thevariations available. The order in which the charactervariations appear depends on the language you haveselected to use.Printing OptionsYou can print multiple copies of the same label, printfixed length labels, review label text and format, andadjust the printing contrast.Printing Multiple CopiesYou can print up to 16 copies of a label at one time.When printing multiple copies, a dotted cut-line isprinted between each label.To print multiple copies of the label1. Press Extra and then use the arrow keys to selectCopies.2. Press the Up arrow key to increase the number ofcopies to print.3. Press the Down arrow key to begin decreasing thenumber of copies from 16.4. Press OK.5. Press Print to begin printing.! You may notice a brief pause in printingbetween each label for more complex formats.When printing is finished, the number of copies toprint returns to the default value of 1.Previewing Your LabelYou can preview the text or format of your label priorto printing. A two-line label is previewed as a singleline label.To preview your label1. Press Extra.2. Use the Down arrow key to select Print Previewand press OK.3. Use the arrow keys to select Text or Format.If you select Text, the text of the label scrolls across thedisplay. If you select Format, the format selecteddisplays briefly.Setting a Fixed Label LengthNormally, the length of the label is determined by thelength of the text entered. However, you may wish tomake a label for a specific purpose that is a fixedlength regardless of the length of the text.You can specify a fixed length for a label in 0.1” (2 mm)increments between 1.5” (40 mm) and 15.0” (400mm). The preset fixed length is 1.5” (40 mm). Anychange you make to the fixed length setting remainsin effect until you change it.To set the label length1. Press Shift-Font/Fixed Length.2. Press the Up arrow to increase the length.7

3. Press the Down arrow to decrease the length.4. Press OK to set the fixed length.5. After you print the label, press Clear to turn off thefixed label length setting; otherwise, all yoursubsequent labels will print with this fixed length.Aligning the TextTo select your language1. Press Extra.2. Use the arrow keys to select Set Language andpress OK.3. Use the Up and Down arrow keys to scroll to thelanguage you want and press OK.When you print a fixed length label you can choose toalign the text at the left, center, or right side of thelabel. For two-line labels, both lines of text are alignedleft, center, and right relative to each other.To align the text1. Press Shift-Frame/Align.2. Use the arrow keys to select the desired alignmentand press OK.3. Press Clear to turn off the alignment setting.Selecting Units of MeasureAdjusting the Print ContrastCaring for Your PrinterYou can adjust the print contrast to fine tune the printquality of your label.To set the contrast1. Press Extra.2. Use the arrow keys to select Print Contrast andpress OK.3. Use the arrow keys to select one of the five contrastsettings and press OK.Customizing the PrinterYou can choose the language you wish to use and theunits of measure.Selecting the LanguageYou can select from a number of different languageoptions for the labelmaker.8You can choose to show measurements in inches ormillimeters.To set the units of measure1. Press Extra.2. Use the arrow keys to select Set Units and pressOK.3. Use the Up and Down arrow keys to togglebetween inches and millimeters, and press OK.Your labelmaker is designed to give you long andtrouble-free service, while requiring very littlemaintenance.Cleaning the PrinterClean your labelmaker from time to time to keep itworking properly.To clean the cutter blade1. Remove the tape cassette.2. Insert the tip of a ball-point pen or pencil betweenthe L-shaped piece and the guide pin.
