Principle of operationThe process medium can flow through the butterfly valve ineither direction. The direction of flow "A" (see Fig. 3) is recommended as less torque is required. The position of the butterflydisc (3) determines the flow across the free area between discand body (1).Butterfly valves are sealed between the disc and seat. Thecompression force of the sealing ring (4) on the disc determinesboth the permissible differential pressure p and the breakawaytorque when the disc opens or closes. The double eccentricbearing design causes the disc on opening or closing to remainin contact with the seat only over a very small angle of rotation. This reduces wear and increases the service life of the valve.10495ABFail-safe positionAttached to the AT Type SRP Rotary Actuator, the butterfly valvehas two fail-safe positions which become effective when thepiston is relieved of pressure as well as when the supply air fails:2Valve CLOSED without supply air,the butterfly valve closes when the supply air fails.Valve OPEN without supply air,the butterfly valve opens when the supply air fails.123431BodyShaftDiscSealing ring5 Mounting ring9 V-ring packing10 Belleville spring washersFig. 3 Sectional diagram of Type BR 14b, lug typep25(bar)2015105t0-10 050100150250200300 ( C)Fig. 4 p/t diagram, version with soft sealingp(bar)454035PN 40/K3302520PN 25/K115HT105t0-50050100 150 200250 300350 400 450 ( C)Fig. 5 p/t diagram, version with metal sealing2T 9924 EN
