EnglishINTRODUCTIONWelcome to the ITCH manual for the Novation TWITCH.Novation TWITCH is a DJ controller with a difference. Its unique controls enable you to dosome awesome things using ITCH’s new performance tools. TWITCH comes with ITCH, a DJsoftware application from Serato which, among many other new features, can automaticallybeat-match tracks, freeing you to be creative with your DJ sets. TWITCH can also be used withother DJ software such as Native Instruments Traktor or Ableton Live, but please note that thismanual is specific to its use with Serato ITCH. For more information on using TWITCH withother DJ software, please go to www.novationmusic.com/twitchWHAT’S IN THE BOX?The TWITCH has been carefully packed in the factory and the packaging was designedto withstand rough handling. Should the unit appear to have been damaged in transit, donot discard any of the packing material and notify the carrier immediately as they would beresponsible.Save all the packing materials for future use if you ever need to ship the unit again.Please check the list below against the contents of the packaging. If any items are missing ordamaged, contact the Novation dealer or distributor where you purchased the unit. Unreliable operation of TWITCHmay result in such a case. When powering TWITCH from a laptop’s USB port, it is stronglyrecommended that the laptop is powered from AC mains rather than its internal battery.7

EnglishInstallation (Mac OSX)Before installing, we recommend you download and install the latest ITCH version fromhttp://www.serato.com/downloads Browse using Finder to the location where the ITCH download was saved.Double click the ITCH zip file to unpack,Then double click the .dmg file to mount the image on your system, and browse to thatvolumeDouble click the file called “ITCH installer”:Follow on-screen instructions to install ITCH. Installation (PC)Before installing, we recommend you download and install the latest ITCH version fromhttp://www.serato.com/downloads.IMPORTANT: Do NOT connect your TWITCH to your PC before you are prompted to do so.The installer will prompt you to connect it at the appropriate time. Browse using Windows Explorer to the location where the ITCH download installer wassaved,Unpack the ITCH .zip file and browse to the extracted contents.Double click the file called “ITCH installer.exe”Follow on-screen instructions to install ITCH.Note: If Windows warns you that any of the drivers’ certificates cannot be verified, approvethem anyway.9

EnglishTWITCH Rear Panel Connections123456781 ASTER OUT (LEFT, Right) - Two ¼” (6.35 mm) 3-pole (TRS) jack sockets, forMconnection to amplifiers, or other audio devices. The outputs are balanced.2 ooth Out (Left, Right) - Two RCA (phono) sockets, for connection to a secondaryBamplifier or pair of powered monitor speakers. The outputs are unbalanced. The BoothOut level is adjustable independently of the Master Out level.3 Booth Output Switch (Master, Cue) – normally Booth Out will be set to MASTERso that you can hear what everyone else hears. Occasionally, you may wish to set this toCUE when using additional external equipment (for example, another DJ mixer) to providea separate headphone feed.4 ux Input (Left, Right) – Two RCA (phono) sockets, for connection of additionalAsources such as CD or MP3 players, audio mixers, etc. The inputs are unbalanced.5 Aux Gain – trim control for the Aux Input, providing -10 to 36 dB of gain adjustment toallow levels of external equipment to be matched.6 Direct Monitoring switch (ON, OFF) – determines whether monitoring of the Mic and/or Aux inputs is derived directly from within TWITCH (ON), i.e., exhibits zero latency; or issourced via the computer (OFF) which results in latency (delay) being introduced.7 USB PORT - Type B USB-compatible (both USB1 and USB2) socket for connection to PCor Mac. A standard USB Type A to B lead is supplied.8 Security lock - A standard Kensington computer-style security lock anchor point isprovided. This can be used with a Kensington MicroSaver Security cable (available frommost computer suppliers) to secure TWITCH to a convenient immovable object.11

EnglishFront Panel910119mic input - ¼” (6.35 mm) 3-pole (TRS) electronically balanced jack socket forconnecting a microphone for DJ, guest or announcement use. Always use a good qualitydynamic microphone. Do not use a condenser (capacitor) microphone as TWITCH does notprovide the phantom power this type of mic requires.mic gain - mic gain trim control with gain range of 12 to 60 dB. If a microphone isnot connected, ensure that this gain control is set fully anti-clockwise, thus preventing anyunwanted noise from entering the mix.10Headphone socket – Two 3-pole sockets for stereo headphones are fitted (¼” jackand 3.5 mm mini-jack). The use of high quality, closed-ear headphones is recommended.1112

EnglishMixer ControlsTwo sets of mixer controls are provided (for Decks A and B); the following descriptions apply to either.Deck19 channel fader – the stereofader adjusts the level of the deck’saudio sent to the master outputs. Itcan also function as FADER FX,see page 53.20 Crossfader– normal crossfadefunction between the two decks.21 Channelbargraph meter – willnormally show the Master outputlevel, but may additionally showother levels depending on variousswitch settings.22 TRIM– the input gain trim potshould be adjusted to match thelevels of different tracks, to reducethe possibility of overload and tooptimise the fader’s control range.232224262728251923 HIGH2124 MID20– EQ control providing 6 or12* dB of cut and boost at highfrequencies.– EQ control providing 6 or 12*dB of cut and boost at mid(e.g., speech) frequencies.25 :LOW – EQ control providing 6 or 12* dB of cut and boost at low frequencies.26 Headphonemonitoring.Cue select: press to route the Deck to the Cue system for headphone27 : FADERFX – allows sound effects (FX) to be added to the channel.
