Data sheetRA 2000Thermostatic Radiator ValvesApplication:RA 2000 Thermostatic Radiator Valves regulatethe flow of hot water or low pressure steamthrough free-standing radiators, baseboards,or convectors in hot water and two-pipe steamOperator Features:Standard Valve MountedDial and SensorTamper Resist. ValveMounted. Dial and SensorCombined RemoteMounted Dial and SensorStandard Valve MountedDial with Remote SensorTamper Resist. ValveMounted Dial w/ RemoteSensorSide Mount AngleFPT x MPTUnion Tailpiece Valve mounted operators provide fastacting modulating control of the spacetemperature through a patented vaporcharge, ensuring the highest level ofcomfort control. Standard valve mounted operators areequipped with a “snap-action” mechanismthat allows for easy installation and removalwithout the use of tools. Optional anti-theftprotection clips are available. Tamper resistant versions of the valvemounted operators are available todiscourage unauthorized adjustment, vandalism and theft. Conforms to ASHRAE / ANSI Standard102-1983. RA 2000 valves are fitted with a packinggland assembly that is replaceable while thesystem is in operation. The packing gland isfitted with a grease cup to ensure the o-ringpacking is lubricated for life. Sturdy EPDM rubber valve disc provides apositive seal against the valve seat atdifferential pressures of up to 15 PSI in hotwater heating systems, while 15psig for lowpressure steam systems. Plastic cap supplied to protect the valvepushpin can provide manual control ofthe valve during installation. If manualoperation is required, a separate hand knobis available as an accessory. Valves remain normally open with nooperator mounted. Conforms to ASHRAE / ANSI Standard102-1983.Separate RemoteMounted Dial and SensorValve Features:Straight FPT x MPTUnion Tailpiecesystems. Range: 45-86 F (7-30 C)Comfort Control:Control of the space temperature at acomfortable level is easily accomplishedby adjusting the dial clockwise or counterclockwise. The dial has a numbered scaleof 1 to 5 corresponding to temperatures ofapproximately 57 F to 79 F (14 C to 26 C).Indicator TabShould the space be unoccupied for anextended period, the dial can be set to the “ *”symbol for freeze protection (50 F or 9 C) tosave energy.Indicated temperatures are approximate.Adjust the dial to the desired setting.Design and Function:The RA 2000 thermostatic operator consistsof a saturated vapor charged bellows and asetting dial. The dial is set to the position equalto the desired temperature. When the ambienttemperature lowers, the pressure from thebellows will reduce, allowing the valve to open.A rise of temperature increases the pressurein the bellows closing the valve. The balancedpressures between the adjustment spring andthe bellows ensure a smooth and modulatingoperation of the valve. Data sheetRA 2000Thermostatic Radiator ValvesCapacity:Note: For best control, select valvebased on 4 F P-deviation andmaximum5 psi pressure drop.P-deviation is the differencebetween the thermostat setting andthe actual space temperature. Forbest comfort control and long life, valves should be selected to providedesign flow at a 4 F P-deviation.Hydronic Hot WaterApplicationsExample:Flow Required:0.65 US GPMPipe Size: 1 2”Solution:Draw a line from 0.65 USgpmuntil it intersects with thedashed line for the 1 2” valve.Draw a vertical line down tofind the additional systempressure drop due to the valvewill be 0.6 psi.Low PressureSteam Applications:The shaded area representsdifferential pressure above thoserecommended for quiet operation. The maximum differential pressureratings indicate the maximumpressure at which valves regulatesatisfactorily. In order to preventnoise, pumps that provide onlythe required pressure should berecommended. Experience showsthat in most systems a differentialpressure of0.5 - 2.5 psi across the valve issufficient to provide the requiredflow.Step-by-step selection techniqueSolution:From the table below a 3/4” valve will provide28MBH at a 4 F P-deviation at a pressure dropof 3psi. If the system pressure is 3psi or greater a3/4” valve can be used.1. Before selecting valves, consider P-deviation.2. Check that system pressure is below 15psig.3. Data sheetRA 2000Thermostatic Radiator ValvesWarning:Brass products such as Danfoss thermostaticradiator valves should not be installed in hydronic or steam heating systems that are beingtreated with medias that contain, or that duringthe process of treatment could develop, agentsaggressive to brass. In concentrations largerthan shown, agents such as Ammonia (0.2mg/l),Mercury (0.01mg/l), Oxygen (0.01mg/l), CarbonDioxide (0.05mg/l), or Chloride (20mg/l) mustbe avoided. Further the pH-value of the medium in contact with the brass products shouldnot exceed 9.5.Neglecting the above restrictions may in somecircumstances cause damage to the brass in thevalve allowing the heating fluid to escape, possibly scalding any bystanders. The thermostatic radiator valve assemblyshall be a two part assembly consisting of thebrass valve body and thermostatic operator. The brass valve body shall have a packinggland assembly capable of replacement whilethe system is in operation. The valve shall beavailable in a straight, angle, or side mountorientation. The thermostatic operator shallbe available in either a valve or wall mounteddial operator. The valve mounted dial shall be avapor charged operator and installed via snapaction mechanism or Allen key. Assembly shallconform to ASHREA / ANSI standard 102-1983.Typical Specifications:Note: To avoid internal damage and void thewarranty, mineral oils must not come in contactwith EPDM valve components.Danfoss can accept no responsibility for possible errors in printed materials and reserves the right to alter its products without notice. All trademarks in this material are property of the respective companies.
