There’sno denying of the fact that gunsare extremely powerful and highlyefficient but before the guns werediscovered, people used to dependon bows and arrows. In fact, warfare was taken to a whole new levelby the invention of archery. Today,though not very widely popular, archery is still practiced by many andis mostly restricted to sports andhunting unless of course we startconsidering the famous TV show‘Arrow’. Gandy Creek TroutThe West Virginia Division ofNatural Resources recently surveyed Gandy Creek to assess troutnumbers in one of the state’s mostpopular fishing streams and biologists for the agency say their findings show there are still plenty oftrout to catch in between stockings.“Gandy Creek might be a smallstream, but it’s one of the mostheavily fished in the state and webelieve our findings here will helpreassure anglers that they can catcha fish even if they don’t get thereon a stocking day,” said Jim Hedrick, hatchery program managerfor the WVDNR.Gandy Creek, located along County Route 29 in Randolph County, gets stocked with trout once aweek between March and May. Wild Yards ProgramIn an effort to create more natural habitat for wildlife around thestate, the West Virginia Division ofNatural Resources is encouraginglandowners to join its Wild Yardsprogram.The program, which has 300members around the state, recognizes the efforts of landownerswho landscape for wildlife use.“We want to encourage privatecitizens, whether they have a littlebit of property or own a lot of land,to help wildlife thrive by providing them with food, water, shelterand space,” said Jim Fregonara, aWVDNR wildlife biologist.Joining the Wild Yards programis easy.
