3. Approval of Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council Minutes of September9, 2020 - (Sweetland/Martin/Passed)4. Public Comments – No Public Comments5. Consent Agenda Items - the consent agenda containing the Health and roved(Sweetland/Gorback/Passed).6. DISCUSSION ITEMS/PRESENTATION/MOTION6.1 LEGACY Awards – The Legacy Awards were presented by John Gardner.He provided an overview of the awards and congratulated the recipientsthat were present via Zoom. For those that were not present, John read thenames and provided information as to why they were selected.6.2VCAAA COVID Update – Victoria gave an update on VCAAA’s COVID-19efforts. From the start of the pandemic to the week of November 2, VCAAAprovided 2.4 million meals. Victoria also gave an update on upcomingprojects including holiday meal deliveries. Lastly, Victoria introduced theCOVID Care Kits that the agency will be distributing to the individuals mostin need, at least 1200 will be sent out. Tony Gitt suggested the File of Lifebe added to the COVID Care Kits.6.3Discussion and Adoption of a Strategy to Address the BehavioralHealth Needs of Older Adults – Monique gave a presentation on theStrategy to Address the Behavioral Health Needs of Older Adults. Sheaddressed the stats of the Community Health Needs Assessment of 2019.She addressed what is available for Older Adults through VCAAA, servicessuch as the Pearls Program, and the partnerships with ILRC and BehavioralHealth. She addressed what is missing in Ventura County for Older Adults.She gave an update on the current advocacy efforts as well. Lastly, she gavean update on VCAAA’s role. John suggested that we partner with otheragencies and commented on speaking with vendors regarding a telehealthmodule that could be available to seniors for a better way to communicatewith their doctors 24/7 online.6.4PIO and Outreach Update – Jannette provided an update on the marketingpieces the VCAAA has in place. Jannette shared that Fall Prevention classeshad resumed: Walk with Ease will be having classes in Ventura and Simivalley with a virtual online class. There is a Tai Chi class in Ventura. SeniorNutrition classes will be starting the week after this meeting – Eat Smart,Live Strong and EatFresh.org Mini Course – via online. Jannette also2

provided an update Medi-Care Open Enrollment One-Stops, which is endingDecember 7th. She provided an update on the Letters of Support. VCAAAhas received about 5,500 cards and letters from the community. Jannetteshared some letters that individuals have created. Lastly, she gave anupdate on the Live Well Resource Guide, it will be coming out January 1,2021.6.5Workforce Committee Update and Direction – Karen shared aPowerPoint presentation to help individuals find employment and findemployment through a pandemic. She also provided information ontechnology classes and America’s Job Center. Lastly, Karen invited thecouncil to the next meeting of the committee.6.6Formation of a Nominating Committee for Election of Officers for FY2020-2021, One Service Provider, One Consumer, One FocusedPopulation Behavioral Health Representative and One CaliforniaSenior Legislature Representative for Two Year Terms StartingJanuary 2021 Through December 31, 2023 – Sue Tatangelo, Toni Olsonand Marcy Sherbok volunteered.INFORMATIONAL ITEMS7. Advisory Council Committee Membership FY 2020 – 2021 – The list wasincluded for informational purposes.8. Advisory Council Meeting Schedule for FY 2020 – 2021 – The meetingschedule for FY 2020-2021 was included for informational purposes.9. California Association of Area Agencies on Aging Annual Conference –Victoria provided information regarding the conference. It will be a virtualconference and invitations will be sent out and any members that would like to joinwill be registered. The conference is December 3rd, 2020.10. Other Committee Meetings:a. California Senior Legislature Update – Tony provided a brief update on theCSL and announced that there is a stakeholder committee meeting onNovember 16th.b. Triple A Council of California Update – Tony Olson announced that there willbe another meeting in January.c. VCAAA Foundation Update – Marcy provided a brief update on the VCAAAFoundation Update. She mentioned that a fundraising flyer is being developed3

to publicize on social media. Jannette stated that she will develop the flyer andpresent it to Monique, Victoria, Brian and the Foundation for approval.d. LGBTQ Aging Coalition – Marcy gave a brief update on the LGBTQ AgingCoalition and announced that they will be meeting at 2PM that same day.Jannette also announced that the video will be used as a promo video for theLGBTQ Aging Coalition.e. Dementia Friendly Ventura County – Monique gave a brief update onDFVC meeting and announced that Dr. Haleh Hashemzadeh will be the newstaff supporting that committee.11. Comments from the Chair – Suz Montgomery thanked everyone for all theirhard work.12. Other Businesses – No members commented regarding other businesses.13. Welcome – The meeting was called to order at 10:04 a.m. A quorum was not present2. Public Comments – None3. Discussion of Vision for this Committee – Karen shared that the Committee shouldcontinue to meet and discuss specific Committee goals for the rollout of the Get ThatJob workshop, but given the current uptick in the pandemic, Karen thought it moreprudent to roll this workshop out in April or May of 2021. In the meantime, Karenshared that Loretta suggested the workshop could be “tested” by a pilot group of 8 to10 individuals for feedback. The Committee decided to conduct that pilot on March 25,2021 10am to 11am. Monique suggested the Get That Job workshop be videotapedby Jannette and that would allow a viewer or group to watch it in whole or in part. TheCommittee liked that idea and suggested perhaps the video could also be housed onthe VCAAA website under the Employment Committee Tab. Karen further stated thatshe does not want to teach or tape the entire workshop, instead, she would like toenlist different subject matter experts for each part of the workshop. Karen asked thatthe content of the Get That Job workshop remain confidential and not be shared withanyone outside of the Advisory Council at this juncture. Monique offered to reach outto Nancy Ambriz at HSA to find out if one of the older adults placed with a companythrough her program would be willing to be on camera as part of this video project.Karen also asked that we find an employer who hires older adults and individuals withdisabilities to interview on a video, in conjunction with an employee that the companyhired; to capture both perspectives. Karen suggested Home Depot be contacted as5

one such employer. Karen asked Monique to query Nancy about her knowledge ofany California tax credits offered to employers as a benefit for hiring older adults.4. Next Meeting – January 22, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.5. Adjournment – The meeting adjourned at 10:25 a.m.6

Review and Approve Committee Purpose (Goals) – Monique provided anoverview of the Committee’s stated goals to ascertain if the goals would remainor be modified. Clark Owens approved the goals, John and Carol agreed.Afterwards Monique announced that in the next meeting in January, the ActingElderHelp Transportation Coordinator will join the meeting as well and presentthe number of transportation rides and discuss how the pandemic has affectedthe numbers and VCAAA services in relation to transportation. Carol requestedto have stats presented at each meeting.7

Tony suggested adding aSummary of Different Dial-A-Ride Services in the County under thetransportation tab on the VCAAA website. Monique announced that in the nextmeeting the Committee needs to choose a chair.8
