N15/2/ANENG/SP1/ENG/TZ0/XX/T–3–Text B–4–N15/2/ANENG/SP1/ENG/TZ0/XX/TText CAn interview with Charlie HigsonLove Nature? Join The RSPBCharlie Higson is a comedian who became a children’s author. Since his hugelysuccessful Young Bond series he has gone on to write a new series called The Enemy.Part 1As the UK’s biggest nature conservation charity, witha history going back to 1889, we focus on conservingthe UK’s wildlife and restoring and protecting itsnatural habitats. We also work internationally inkey areas to protect birds and other wildlife. The RSPB was formed to stop the barbarous tradein plumes for women’s hats. This fashion wasresponsible for the destruction of many thousandsof species of birds whose plumes had becomefashionable in the late Victorian era.Our 200 nature reserves are home to some of theUK’s most rare birds and animals. We participate in avariety of other projects such as planting native trees. It is only with the support of people like you that wecan continue our conservation work saving wildlifeand habitats.Part 2Volunteer opportunitiesThere are a million and one things you could do tohelp us. Many take less than an hour. Each small action can make an enormous differencewhen combined with a massive amount of peopledoing the same thing. A fantastic example of thisis the Big Garden Birdwatch. An individual spendsone hour counting birds in their garden. The realvalue comes when hundreds of thousands of resultsare added together to give a UK-wide picture.Intrigued? Below are some actions you can take tohelp us and which will only take up to 15 minutes ofyour time.Where do you get the ideas for the books from?5 Donate your old and unwanted optics equipment, binoculars, telescopes and tripods. Become our Facebook fan and follow us on Twitter. Feed wildlife in your garden.10Part 3When I was a kid I used to fantasize about how brilliant it would be if the adults in theworld simply disappeared and we kids could run the place. We could go into anybuildings and do what we liked. That was the starting point for the Enemy series And then I decided to use zombies to make it more lively. So, how could I put the two ideas together? I invented a disease that only affectspeople over the age of 14 and that turns them into zombies. That’s how I solvedthe problem! The Dead is the second book in the series. Will there be more?Frequently asked questionsI have just signed a contract to do six books in the Enemy series. Obviously if the booksare really popular and successful and kids want more then I will write more, but at themoment I’m aiming at six.[–X–]No, there is no age limit. Our youngest volunteeris eight years old and our oldest is over 100. Nomatter what your age there will be a volunteeringopportunity for you.15Actually, the monsters in my books are not technically zombies. They are not deadpeople who have come back to life. I wanted to create zombies of my own and havetried to give them their own unique characteristics. They are almost a cross betweenvampires and zombies.[ – 16 – ]No. Because you’ll be giving up your time, it is onlyfair that we offer to pay your travel expenses and anyother expenses agreed with your RSPB contact.20Is there a cure for the disease, or will all the zombies have to be killed?25[ – 18 – ]Whatever roles you do for us, we will ensure you havewhat you need to do them successfully.Courtesy of the RSPB.Turn over / Tournez la page / Véase al dorsoDid you find yourself scared at any point writing it?I did actually. I grow quite attached to the characters I create in the books, but I knowthat a lot of them will have to be killed or the books just wouldn’t be scary. If I can’tscare myself then I’m not going to scare anyone else.[ – 17 – ]As a volunteer, you are free to leave whenever youlike. If other people depend on you, we will ask youto give your RSPB contact reasonable warning if youcannot come in.Did you have to look at a lot of zombie movies to prepare for writing this book?30The great thing about the books for me is that they are told entirely from the point ofview of the kids involved in the action, so we never know more than they do. Therefore,a large part of the series will be trying to find out more about the disease. How will itaffect them as they get older? Will they be able to find a cure for it? Is everyone in theworld affected? This gives the series a good element of mystery and suspense. In eachnew book the kids will learn a little more about how the disease works and at the end ofthe six books, they will discover what has caused it. First News. Used with permission.

/ENG/TZ0/XXText DThe Australian new-age dadNew-age dads are not so skilled at fixing things as their fathers, but they are more directlyinvolved with their kids.Meet the modern dad – he can’t fix a leaky tap or change a car tire but he can cook a meal andclean the baby.510According to social researchers, the traditional role of Australia’s4.6 million fathers is changing. They are more involved withtheir children than their own fathers were. Because of this, theyare too busy to learn some of the practical skills of their fathers.Researchers say that men are becoming dads at the average ageof 31 and will have more children than any other generation inAustralian history.According to Claire Madden, research director, “The new generation of dads is not able tochange the oil in his car or change a bike tire, but is more confident shopping for groceries orcooking a meal for their families.152025English ab initio – Standard level – Paper 2Anglais ab initio – Niveau moyen – Épreuve 2Inglés ab initio – Nivel medio – Prueba 2Candidate session numberNuméro de session du candidatNúmero de convocatoria del alumnoWednesday 4 November 2015 (afternoon)Mercredi 4 novembre 2015 (après-midi)Miércoles 4 de noviembre de 2015 (tarde)1 hour / 1 heure / 1 horaInstructions to candidates Write your session number in the boxes above.Do not open this examination paper until instructed to do so.The maximum mark is [25 marks] for this examination paper.Complete one task from section A (worth [7 marks]), and one task from section B (worth[18 marks]), using the boxes provided. At the end of the examination, indicate the numbers of both of the tasks answered in thecandidate box on your cover sheet. So it is little surprise that one third say they are always feeling short of time,” said Ms Madden.Instrucciones para los alumnos“Both mum and dad work [ – 34 – ] the home so both are sharing the responsibilities, and dadsare feeling the pressure of work [ – 35 – ] the pressure of looking after their children.” So while some of the traditional skills are in decline, they are adding other skills to their list.Dads spend an average 3 hours and 55 minutes caring for their children, and work anaverage of 7 hours and 25 minutes a day – so clearly it is difficult to fit everything in.”Parents pay for jobs [ – 36 – ] gardening and housecleaning instead of doing these jobsthemselves. They buy replacements [ – 37 – ] repairing everything that breaks down. Theirroles are divided between work, family and volunteering. Perpendicular lines are lines that intersect at 90 degree angles. For example, To show that lines are perpendicular, a small square should be placed where the two lines intersect to indicate a 90 angle is formed. Segment AB̅̅̅̅ to the right is perpendicular to segment MN̅̅̅̅̅. We write AB̅̅̅̅ MN̅̅̅̅̅ Example 1: List the .

2.2. ab initio Molecular Orbital Calculations All the ab initio MO calculations were made with a Dell personal computer using the Gaussian 94W program package. Based on the results of a previous paper [5], the used ab initio MO theory and basis set were restricted to the Hartree-Fock self-consistent field (HF) method the-

calculation. The results of ab initio methods can depend on the choice of the initial orbital guess. At every point we are interested in we apply a series of ab initio calculations, where each ab initio calculation uses the orbitals from the previous calculation as initial orbital guess. We start with a spin-restricted Hartree-Fock

T3. Ab Initio Hartree-Fock Calculations The point of the empirical parameters in semiempirical calculations was to cut down on the number of electron-electron repulsion integrals that needed to be computed. In ab initio calculations one simply calculates them all. This inevitably means that ab initio calculations take much longer than semiempirical
