WIRELESS INFRASTRUCTURE AND 5G OVERVIEWWireless infrastructure is the hardware backbone of mobile and fixed wireless networks. 5G, thenext generation of mobile network standards, promises high data rates to enable low-latencyapplications including safe autonomous driving and 4K video streaming to smartphones.Amphenol RF is prepared for 5G, with innovative new RF product lines as well as industry standardproducts. APPLICATIONS OVERVIEWBASE STATIONANTENNASMIMO ANTENNASMacro base stations have evolved tobe more efficient with Massive MIMOantennas. Many antenna elementsand other components in a compacthousing, coupled with technologies likebeamforming, vastly improve coverageand capacity per antenna.MIMO or “Multiple-Input Multiple-Output”refers to antenna technology that expandsradio capacity by sending and receivingmultiple data signals simultaneously overthe same channel.SMALL CELLSSmall cells are short-range radio nodesthat supplement macro base stationsand create local wireless networks.Dense installations of small cells will beelemental to 5G, providing significantlyincreased network capacity and supportof high data rates.WIRELESSBACKHAULBackhaul units connect local or “edge”networks to a core network. 7/16 CONNECTOR SERIESThe 7/16 series name derives from the metric dimensionsof the connector interface: 7mm OD of inner contact, 16mm ID of outer contact. These connectors provide superiorperformance for both return loss and intermodulationdistortion (IMD).These connectors are extremely robust and stable and offerwaterproof options, making them ideal for applicationswhere vibration resistance and environmental protectionis important. AFI CONNECTOR SERIESThe AFI connector series is a solution for board-to-board RFapplications, where a bullet adapter is embedded into theplug side of the PCB solution.The AFI interface utilizes a proprietary configurationthat allows for “float” to compensate for axial and radialmisalignment due to packaging tolerances.
