Prospective Member ArticleWhat is it about those Corvettes? Is there anything not to love? I have thought about buying mydream car since I was a kid but it just was never the right time. My sons were in their teens and afriend asked if we would be interested in a project car . a 1975 Corvette coupe. He offered it to usfor a reasonable price so why not? We started working on it but after a few sessions we decided itwas more of a project than what we could handle in our driveway, actually I think I probably would bedead before it was finished! We decided to sell that one and move on to something a little moremanageable. We found a 2003 Anniversary Edition that sounded too good to be true. Of course, we were told thatabout 30 people were coming to look at it and first come first served. After giving it some thought(about 30 seconds) we jumped in our car and were on our way. We NEVER expected to find whatwe did . this car was IMACULATE! It was stored in a heated garage, on carpeting, covered, complete with a battery tender and a microfiber towel to open the door and keep off the dust! Thislady was so particular I’m surprised it wasn’t in her living room! Sadly, she was forced to part with herbeloved car due to an illness. We knew we had found our dream car. It had only 3,000 originalmiles and still had that new car smell. We felt like we had found one of those deals of a lifetime and itwas not long before we signed on the dotted line.Andy and Debbie AdamsCORVETTES of BUFFALO4

News from FloridaI had good intentions of sending you a report on the Venice Club's annual Corvette show and themonth got past me before I knew it! March was a busy month with much company (3separate sets),the Venice show [plus local Highlands City Corvette Club activities which included a lunch cruise onthe St Johns River starting out of Sanford. FL;) and our local Lake Country Cruisers Club cruise whichhas fallen into my lap to keep it going. We had record numbers in Jan and Feb!Anyway, the Venice Club is a large one and they hold an excellent show which they limit to the first165 Corvette registrations. It is held on the town mall on the island and they give a nicely designedshirt and nice door prizes. They also have a nice group of vendors, including the NCM and Eckler’s! Inaddition, they have two sets of awards for each generation. The judged awards are given first andthey are strictly wash and shine awards. The Peoples Choice awards are more significant because theyare voted on by all the Venice Club members and all participants who put cars in the Peoples Choicesection. This year I cleaned up the 69 (no small task after driving it 4000 miles to the Rockies and back!) andit turned out to be a very popular choice! I won in the C-3 division (picture attached). We will beattending one more Corvette show, the St. Armand’s Circle show which is limited to 150 Corvettes butdraws the biggest crowd of onlookers! It is on the island and is a very touristy location! The SkywayClub sponsors it and they give every entry a nice golf shirt! MC and I are both entered, my 69, her 67.I hope to be back in time to see everyone at the Memorial Day Parade. Meanwhile, hello to all andhope you have good enough weather to bring out all the Corvettes soon!Save the Wave,John M.CORVETTES of BUFFALO9

Retirement Age: Chevy Launches Special-EditionCarbon 65 Anniversary CorvettesTony Markovich4/11/2017Reprinted from: http://car.and.driver.com/The 2018 model year will mark the 65th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette. It's a bit of anarbitrary milestone to celebrate—retirement age! —but nevertheless Chevy has created theCarbon 65 Edition package specifically for 2018 Grand Sport and Z06 models.Chevrolet is building 650 of these bad boys (exclusively for the GS 3LT and Z06 3LZ trims),although the split between models was not specified. All will be painted the light gray color(here called Ceramic Matrix Gray) that has become increasingly popular in the sports-car world, and they will also receive blue graphics on the doors and front fenders. Convertible versionswill have blue tops. The rest of the package centers around, yep, carbon fiberThe Carbon 65 gear thus includes the following carbon-fiber goodies: a ground-effects package(normally a 3995 option), a hood insert ( 1995), the roof panel on coupes ( 1995), a spoiler( 2520), and side intake ducts. Dark-painted badges and side-mirror caps ( 100) are present, too, while carbon wheel centers ( 210) are fitted to black wheels wrapped in summer tires,CORVETTES of BUFFALO11

normally priced at 495 on the Grand Sport and 3740 on the Z06. Blue-painted brake caliperscomplete the exterior changes. The interior gets Carbon 65 door sills, optional Competition Sport bucket seats (usually 1995),Jet Black suede upholstery with blue stitching, a carbon-fiber-rimmed steering wheel, andglossy carbon trim. As befitting the pile of woven stuff tossed at the car—and its specialness—the special-edition package will cost 15,000. It will be released this summer.CORVETTES of BUFFALO12

2017 CORVETTE HALL OF FAME INDUCTEESReprinted with the permission of: National Corvette Museum e-NEWS @ http://corvettemuseum.orgThe National Corvette Museum has announced the following inductees to berecognized as part of the 20 th Annual Corvette Hall of Fame Ceremony in 2017:Peter Brock in the category of Enthusiast; Jim Minneker in the category ofGM/Chevrolet; and Tommy Morrison in the category of Racing. These threeindividuals will be recognized with the highest honor bestowed by the Museum fortheir contributions to the past, present and future of Corvette. The 2017 CorvetteHall of Fame recipients will be inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame during aceremony and banquet on Friday, September 1, 2017. Their induction will takeplace as part of the Museum’s 23 rd Anniversary Celebration August 31 –September 2, 2017.Peter BrockAt just 19 years old, Peter Brock wasone of the youngest designers to everbe invited to work at GM Design. When Bill Mitchell, the new VP of theStyling Section for GM, wanted tobuild a successor to the 1957 CorvetteSS concept car, he charged his teamof designers to come up with someideas. Ultimately Brock’s sketch wasselected and refined. Working withfellow designers Chuck Pohlmann,Larry Shinoda and Tony Lapine theirefforts culminated into the very firstCorvette to be called a Sting Ray, theXP87 Corvette Sting Ray Racer. (Yes,it is supposed to be two words.) Thisracing concept would go on toinfluence the lines and look of thesecond-generation Corvette andreally, every Corvette since. As anenthusiast, Brock has done just about everything relating to motorsports. He hasdesigned and raced cars, written books and articles, and even became aphotojournalist capturing one of the greatest eras of motor-racing history. He documented the Corvette’s performance history from its earliest days in themid ‘50s with Briggs Cunningham at Le Mans, through the powerful era whenCORVETTES of BUFFALO13

drivers Dave McDonald, Dick Thompson and Bob Bondurant established theCorvette as America’s only true production performance car, all the way to thepresent C7 generation. In addition to all of that he started Brock RacingEnterprises in the 1960’s and has worked on a number of other marques alongthe way, but has always had a very special place in his heart for Corvettes.Jim MinnekerJim Minneker is a great example of theway Chevrolet infuses racing DNA into theCorvette. As both a racer and an engineer,he brought to the table an understandingof what makes power, and what it takes tocontrol that power on a track. Using thatinsight he joined the Corvette team in1986, spending the next ten years workingon the LT1, LT4 and the legendary LT5engines that would become the heart ofthe ZR-1 Corvette supercar. It’s no wonderthat he became the engineering groupmanager for GM High PerformanceVehicle Operations. As a racer, he has driven for Bakeracing,Morrison-Cook Motorsports, Doug RippieRacing and Mallett Motorsports, whilecompeting in the SCCA World Challenge, the IMSA Supercar series, IMSA GT andthe Grand Am series. Perhaps his greatestachievement behind the wheel however, was as a member of the team of eight drivers that set the 24-Hour SpeedEndurance World Record Run in 1990, driving a stock ZR-1 Corvette at anaverage speed of 175.885 mph.Jim’s efforts on behalf of Corvette however, didn’t stop in Detroit or at the track. When the National Corvette Museum was just beginning, he was instrumental, helping out early on in arranging for displays relating to powertrain andengineering. Ultimately, he was elected to the position of Chairman of the Boardwhere his leadership, wisdom, direction and vision was essential in setting thecourse for a bright future at the National Corvette Museum.CORVETTES of BUFFALO14

Tommy MorrisonIf there was a Mount Rushmore forCorvette Racing, Tommy Morrison’s facemight be on it–carved in stone andwearing dark sunglasses with a confidentsmile. In the early 1980s when he teamedup with the late Jim Cook to foundMorrison-Cook Motorsports, his Corvetterace cars began dominating in showroomstock racing and making Corvette historyalong the way. He set out to prove thatMobil 1 and Corvette were a nearlyunbeatable combination racking up more24-hour endurance wins than any teambefore them–thus starting a sponsorshiprelationship that is still winning to this day.At the races and on test tracks, Tommy’steams provided GM engineers withvaluable test data that went back to theengineers designing the cars. His efforts also gave Chevrolet’s marketingdepartment a series of wins that created massive opportunities for promoting theCorvette. Perhaps the greatest example of this was the 1990 24-Hour SpeedEndurance World Record Run, where he and his team took a stock ZR-1 Corvetteand drove it 24 hours straight, averaging 175.885 miles per hour. This became aPR boost that GM would use in a series of commercials and print ads to furtherestablish Corvette’s reputation as a high-performance icon. So important was thisachievement that the National Corvette Museum has a long-term exhibit ondisplay with the actual record run car, and plaster casts of Tommy, Jim Minnekerand John Heinricy surrounding it. One of Tommy’s other race cars is part of theSmithsonian Institute collection. While Tommy would quickly attribute his success to his teammates and the “goodLord above,” his determination, courage, and leadership were also key to hisvictories, and to his induction into the 2017 Cor

Mobile banking’s growth is fuelled by increasing adoption and migration by older demographics, in particular wealthier older families and the pre-retired. And given the overlap of this demographic with the “traditional saver”, our attention has turned to the growth in digital savings. The growth in mobile and app banking to manage savings accounts has mimicked that of current accounts .
