The infrastructurecompany might do mega development projects like schools, hospitals, roads and sewage, AlKahloot added.Prominentbusinessman,Ahmed Al Khalaf, while laudingthe announcement, said there ishuge wealth in Qatar but there isa flight of capital since there is alack of investment avenues here. The two companies wouldmake sure that large parts ofthe Qatari capital that is parkedabroad, would come back, saidAl Khalaf.Details are not available, but itis understood that the two companies would make investmentslocally as well as overseas, he said.“People are happy as the ordinaryQatari investor would benefitimmensely from the IPOs.”THE PENINSULAContinued on page 4The Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani with French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian at the Emiri Diwan yesterday. He saidthat the ceasefire is crucial forrealizing peace, safety, securityand development in Darfur.THE PENINSULAMANAMA: Bahrain’s government and opposition held reconciliation talks yesterday forthe first time since July 2011 totry to end two years of politicaldeadlock in the kingdom. While opposition membershave expressed very cautious optimism that the talks represent ameaningful step forward, theyhave also voiced concerns that theagenda remains unclear.Negotiators for the six oppositionparties said as they were leavingyesterday’s session that they wouldcontinue the dialogue, at least untilthe next meeting on Wednesday, but that they would meet today todiscuss the way forward. The sides have still to agree onthe agenda and schedule, althoughthey have decided to limit thescope of discussions to resolvingpolitical differences, and to meettwice a week while talks continue.Opposition negotiator AbdulnabiSalman, from the DemocraticProgressive Tribune group, saidafter the session: “So far so good, and we will continue for the nextsession, but there is no guaranteethat we will continue forever.”Asked if he thought governmentnegotiators had showed they wereserious, Salman said: “Not yet. Forme they didn’t show us that . Butthey showed us that they can listento us, which is a positive step.”The opposition Wefaq movementhas commanded nearly half theelectorate in past parliamentary votes but the governmenthas refused to budge on opposition demands to give the electedchamber of parliament the powerto form cabinets.Justice Minister Sheikh Khaledbin Ali Al Khalifa said that thesession had been a positive start. The opposition walked away fromreconciliation talks in July 2011,saying they were not carried outfairly. Yesterday’s dialogue sessionincluded the justice minister, theeducation minister and the worksminister.Of the 24 other participants, eight are from the opposition, eight from pro-government parties and eight from Bahrain’snational assembly, made up of theappointed Shura Council and anelected chamber.“The issue in this country isbetween the government andthe opposition. They are the realstakeholders. But there are lotsof others who will sit around thetable,” said Jasim Husain, a formerWefaq member of parliament. The opposition has said that itsmain conditions for continuing thetalks are that ruling family members attend, that the talks bringabout decisions rather than recommendations, and that the result isput to a public referendum.REUTERSThe government is quite flexible in this regard and activelycooperates in such cases. Someof the victims prefer to returnhome while others are helped tofind sponsors and jobs. The challenge is to make surethat the stay and work of thevictims are legal in the country, said the official. He said theFoundation had set up the branchoffices at the courts last year.He added that the companiesand individuals responsible forvisa trade and for cheating hapless workers are being takento task. “They are being madeaccountable,” Mahfooz said.THE PENINSULASyria rebels in northready for dialogueAMMAN:SyrianNationalCoalition leader Moaz Alkhatibsaid yesterday that he was willing to hold talks with Bashar AlAssad’s representatives in rebelheld areas in northern Syria.
