fACeSWhat is TheNeighborhoodAcademy? You are theThe NeighborhoodAcademy is:of The Neighborhood Academy: Letter from the Board PresidentAs I write this letter in the midstof an unrelenting winter, it seemshard to believe that anotherschool year will come to an endin less than a couple months.Eight Seniors are completing thefinal stages of their high schoolcareers. Some of the details include a seniorthesis, final exams, and, most exciting of all, college selections! I would like to introduceyou to this group:Peter LeoneAusha-Lae Jenkins-PryerChantel CannonChantell TaliaferroDajiah AllenKennedy RandallKhalil SellersKianna HollomanMatthew Ballard1 2 - 1 3T H EAs I was driving onto the campus last monthfor the Board Meeting, I was struck, actuallyawestruck, by the stone pillars with theengraving “The Neighborhood AcademyFounded 2001”. How did this come topass? Last year I wrote about the uniquepartnership that allows TNA to functionand thrive. That partnership, of course, consists of three constituencies:The first is the faculty, administration, andboard. The second is our community offriends, donors, and supporters. The thirdis the students and their families. The school works, and works best, whenthese groups function in balance and harmony. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wouldlike to congratulate them and their familieson their upcoming graduation, wish them1luck on their future endeavors, and, mostof all, thank them for entrusting their developmental years to The Neighborhood Academy. Also, as in any successful organization, thereare people behind the scenes that allowN E I G H B O R H O O DA C A D E M YA N N U A LR E P O R Tthe school to operate on a day to day basisin a seamless fashion. I would like toacknowledge some of our key employeesand volunteers and thank them very muchfor their unselfish devotion to our school:Mr. LouMr. DaryllMr. RayMs. GayWinkMs. AudieAnd, of course, John Douglas at the reception desk.Individual DonorsCorporate PartnersFaith ort StaffAdministrationBoard of DirectorsParentsAnd of course, StudentsThe question isn't “What is The Neighborhood Academy”, it's “Who is The Neighborhood Academy?,” and the answer is you.Headmasterof the YearThese, too, are the faces of TNA vital partsof our existence vital parts of our success.Without you, the Faces of TheNeighborhood Academy, we wouldnot have received a ten-year accreditationfrom the Pennsylvania Association ofIndependent Schools, nor would we haveseen 13 in ‘13, our largest class ofgraduating seniors to date.I will close with a heartfelt thank you toeveryone, all of the faces that work togetherto make this dream we call TNA a reality.Because of you, and with your continuedand very much appreciated support, I amconfident that people will keep driving upthat driveway, past those pillars, for manyyears to come.Let this 2012-2013 Annual Report serveas a testament to the wonderful things acommunity of compassionate, committedindividuals can accomplish.1 2 - 1 3T H EN E I G H B O R H O O DA C A D E M YA N N U A LR E P O R T2

Thomas E. Johnson, Jr.For three years, at a cost of 20,000per year, members of the OTB Societycommit themselves to the educationof a child and that child's growth asan individual. But being an OTBsponsor doesn't just match a face toa gift, it fosters a lasting relationship.Whether enjoying a Pirates gametogether, discussing career options,or staying in touch during the schoolyear, the experience is transformativefor both sponsors and students alike. Itis a relationship that, in every way, embodies the mission and spirit ofour school.31 2 - 1 3T H EN E I G H B O R H O O DTNAVOLUNTEERfACeS of our Donors and VolunteersOUT OF MANY, ONE—Our success, growth, andstability as a school wouldnot be possible without theincredible individuals whocome together to form ourcommunity.A C A D E M YA N N U A LR E P O R TThe sharing of many gifts is critical tocarrying out our mission.GIFTS OF TREASURE—Collectively, individual donors made up 44%of our 2012-2013 financial contributions. The Neighborhood Academy existsbecause of donors, like you, with aheart for sharing their treasure.1 2 - 1 3T H EN E I G H B O R H O O Dof the YearMR.
