O C T O B E R 2 0 1 9 NE WS LE T T E RPAGE 2“Think of us in this way, as servants of Christ and stewards of God’s mysteries. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they should be found trustworthy.”– the apostle Paul, reflecting on the role of leadership in ministryDear friends in Christ,Throughout this fall season, we are reflecting on what it means for us as disciples of Jesus to bestewards. The job of a steward is to care for, manage, and responsibly use things entrusted to them bytheir master. This means that stewardship has relevance for lots of different areas of our lives as individual disciples: our health and our bodies, the environment, our spirits and our faith, our talents andgifts, our time and energy, and our relationships. It also means that corporately, as congregations andas a Co-op, we are called to be trustworthy, faithful stewards of the ministry entrusted to us as part ofthe body of Christ.I believe we are doing great things together and are becoming more effective in our stewardship ofthat ministry all the time. Our Co-op ministry teams are just one example. The Evangelical Outreachteam has worked with the administration at Southeast Elementary School and a nonprofit organizationcalled PowerPacks to bring that feeding ministry to Southeast, and they are working through the process of developing Rejoicing Spirits, a worship service for people with developmental disabilities andtheir families. The Fellowship Team is providing opportunities for people to gather, to break bread together, and to uplift and support one another as sisters and brothers in Christ. The Stewardship Team isputting together learning, worship, and service opportunities for us all to reflect on and grow in ouridentity as stewards. The Youth Team is working towards developing a robust and dynamic ministryto steward the faith and gifts of our young people. Great ministry is happening, and the good news ofJesus is being shared, in both word and deed, both inside and outside our congregations. Our congregation councils, committees, and the Co-op board are working hard at being faithfulstewards as well. Property committees are maintaining our buildings as springboards for ministry. Finance committees are working to receive, manage, safeguard, and spend the money entrusted to thechurch in Godly ways that advance the work of the Kingdom of God in our community. Educationcommittees, Sunday school teachers, parish administrators and secretaries, and many others work inhundreds of ways, both seen and unseen, to be faithful stewards of the gospel and of the other gifts entrusted to us for the work of Christ. As we continue reflecting on our calling to be stewards both individually and corporately, I’d liketo invite you to consider where God might be calling you to help steward the mysteries of God. Whatgift, or talent, or passion has God given you? How might God be calling you to use that gift to sharethe love of Christ in our community? And how can Pastor Kristal, Vicar Jess, and I help you hone, develop, and steward that gift? We would love to help you listen for God’s calling in your life, whateverthat calling might be, because we know firsthand the sense of joy and deep satisfaction that comesfrom answering that calling.May we all continue to grow in our stewardship of the mysteries of God, and may we all be foundfaithful in our response to that calling.Yours in Christ,Pastor Bob
