12 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLEA WORD ABOUT YOUR KEYSKeyless Ignition Node (KIN)Your vehicle uses a keyless ignition system. This system This feature allows the driver to operate the ignitionconsists of a Key Fob with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) switch with the push of a button, as long as the Remotetransmitter and a Keyless Ignition Node (KIN).Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is in the passengercompartment.Keyless Enter-N-Go FeatureThe Keyless Ignition Node (KIN) has four operatingThis vehicle is equipped with the Keyless Enter-N-Go positions, three of which are labeled and will illuminatefeature, (refer to Keyless Enter-N-Go in Things To when in position. 14 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLEKey FobThe Key Fob also contains the Remote Keyless Entry(RKE) transmitter and an emergency key, which stores inthe rear of the Key Fob.The emergency key allows for entry into the vehicleshould the battery in the vehicle or the Key Fob go dead.The emergency key is also for locking the glove box. Youcan keep the emergency key with you when valet parking.To remove the emergency key, slide the mechanical latchon the back of the Key Fob sideways with your thumband then pull the key out with your other hand.Emergency Key RemovalNOTE: You can insert the double-sided emergency keyinto the lock cylinders with either side up.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE 15Ignition Or Accessory On MessageOpening the driver’s door when the ignition is in ACC orON (engine not running), a chime will sound to remindyou to cycle the ignition to OFF. In addition to the chime,the ignition or accessory on message will display in thecluster.NOTE: With the Uconnect system, the power windowswitches, radio, power sunroof (if equipped), and poweroutlets will remain active for up to 10 minutes after theignition is cycled to the OFF position. Opening eitherfront door will cancel this feature. The time for thisfeature is programmable. Refer to “Uconnect Settings”in “Understanding Your Instrument Panel” for furtherinformation.CAUTION! If your vehicle battery becomes low or dead, yourKey Fob will become locked in the ignition. Do not attempt to remove the Key Fob while in thiscondition, damage could occur to the Key Fob orignition module. Only remove the emergency keyfor locking and unlocking the doors. Leave the Key Fob in the ignition and either: Jump Start the vehicle. Charge the battery.2

(Continued) Before exiting a vehicle, always apply the parkingbrake, shift the transmission into PARK, and pushignition button to place ignition in OFF position.When leaving the vehicle, always lock your vehicle. Never leave children alone in a vehicle, or withaccess to an unlocked vehicle. Allowing children to be in a vehicle unattended isdangerous for a number of reasons. A child orothers could be seriously or fatally injured. Children should be warned not to touch the parkingbrake, brake pedal or the shift lever. Do not leave the Key Fob in or near the vehicle, orin a location accessible to children, and do notleave Keyless Enter-N-Go in the ACC or ON/RUN mode. A child could operate power windows,other controls, or move the vehicle. Do not leave children or animals inside parkedvehicles in hot weather. Interior heat build-up maycause serious injury or death.(Continued)CAUTION!An unlocked car is an invitation to thieves. THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE 19VEHICLE SECURITY ALARM — IF EQUIPPEDTo Arm The SystemThe Vehicle Security Alarm monitors the vehicle doorsand liftgate for unauthorized entry and the KeylessEnter-N-Go Start/Stop button for unauthorized operation. While the Vehicle Security Alarm is armed, interiorswitches for door locks are disabled. If something triggers the alarm, the Vehicle Security Alarm will providethe following audible and visible signals: the horn willpulse, the headlights will turn on, the park lamps and/orturn signals will flash, and the Vehicle Security Light inthe instrument cluster will flash.Follow these steps to arm the Vehicle Security Alarm:Rearming Of The System1. Remove the key from the ignition system (refer to Starting Procedures in Starting And Operating forfurther information). For vehicles equipped with Keyless Enter-N-Go ,make sure the vehicle ignition system is OFF . For vehicles not equipped with Keyless Enter-N-Go ,make sure the vehicle ignition system is OFF and thekey is physically removed from the ignition.2. Perform one of the following methods to lock thevehicle:If something triggers the alarm, and no action is taken todisarm it, the Vehicle Security Alarm will turn the horn Press LOCK on the interior power door lock switchoff after 3 minutes, turn all of the visual signals off after with the driver and/or passenger door open.15 additional minutes, and then the Vehicle SecurityAlarm will rearm itself.2

If one of the previously described arming sequences has occurred, theVehicle Security Alarm will arm regardless of whetheryou are in the vehicle or not. If you remain in the vehicleand open a door, the alarm will sound. If this occurs,disarm the Vehicle Security Alarm.If the Vehicle Security Alarm is armed and the batterybecomes disconnected, the Vehicle Security Alarm willremain armed when the battery is reconnected; theexterior lights will flash, the horn will soun
