ST. OLAF GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPSMerit Scholarships are awarded by the Admissions Office andthe Fine Arts departments and are renewable for up to fouryears. Grants and Endowed Scholarships are funded throughthe generosity of donors in order to meet the financial needof students. Grants and Scholarships do not have to be repaid.FEDERAL GRANTSSTATE GRANTThe Federal Pell Grant and Federal SupplementalEducational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) areneed-based grants from the federal government.The Minnesota State Grant program is a need-basedgrant awarded only to eligible Minnesota residents.The current Minnesota State Grant amount isestimated and the final amount will be determinedin the summer.FEDERAL STUDENT LOANSSTUDENT EMPLOYMENTThere are many on-campus jobopportunities. You may choose to have yourearnings credited to your student account ordeposited into a bank account.Total earnings will depend on the actualnumber of hours worked.Federal student loans allow students to borrow directly from the federal governmentwithout a cosigner. The Federal Direct Subsidized Loan requires no interest or principal paymentswhile you are enrolled. Interest accrues after you are no longer enrolled or enrolledless than half-time. While full-time enrollment is 3.0 credits persemester, 4.0 credits is the normal course load. Minnesota State Grantrecipients must complete 7.50 credits each year.Students must meet satisfactory academic progress in order tomaintain eligibility for financial aid.
