Rings, watches, bracelets and loose clothing such as ties, scarves, unbuttoned or unzipped shirts and jackets aredangerous and could cause injury!Wear proper safety equipment, such as safetyglasses, safety shoes, hard hats, work gloves, reflector vests and ear protection.Consult your employer or supervisor forspecific safety equipment requirements and safetyregulations on the job site.Do not install any equipment or attachmentsmade by other manufacturers or any which are notspecifically authorized by LIEBHERR for installationwithout first obtaining the written permission fromLIEBHERR.LIEBHERR will issue any required technicaldocumentation for approved installations.Should the electrical circuit be modified oradditional components be installed, so themodification must be performed according to thenational standards and safety regulations (such asOSHA per the USA).The installation must be certificated by an approvedorganization and a copy of the certification has to besent to the LIEBHERR company.Always tilt up the safety lever before leavingthe operator s seat.Do not carry tools, replacement parts or othersupplies while climbing on or off the excavator.Never use the steering column, control levers orjoysticks as handholds.Never jump off the excavator, climb on andoff the excavator using only the steps, rails andhandles provided. When climbing on or off the excavator, use bothhands for support and face the machine. If needed, use the front window as an escapehatch. If no other guidelines are given, performmaintenance and repairs utilizing the followingprecautions :2.2

Check the electrical system regularly andfrequently. All defects, such as loose connections, burnt outfuses and bulbs, burnt or damaged cables must berepaired immediately by a licensed electrician orspecially trained personnel.CRUSHING AND BURN PREVENTIONNever work underneath the excavator unlessit is safely resting on the ground and / or is properlyblocked and supported.Never use damaged or insufficient wireropes, slings or chains. Always wear gloves whenhandling wire ropes.Never store flammable fluids on the machineexcept in storage tanks intended for the excavator soperation.Never reach into bores during attachmentinstallation or removal. Never align bores with yourfingers or hands. Use proper alignment tools wheninstalling, changing or servicing attachments byqualified mechanicsInspect all components, lines, tubes and hosesfor oil and fuel leaks and / or damage.Replace or repair any damaged componentsimmediately.Any oil, which escapes from leaks, can easily causea fire.Keep objects away from the radiator fan.Rotating fans will swirl and throw out objects, which can become very dangerous and causesevere injury to yourself and others.Be certain that all clamps, guards and heatshields are installed. These components preventvibration, rubbing, chafing and heat build-up. Installtie wraps to fasten hoses and wires, as required.Avoid contact with any componentscontaining coolant. At or near operating temperature, the enginecoolant is hot and under pressure and could causesevere burns.Cold start ether is extremely flammable. Do notuse together with preheat. Use ether only inventilated areas and as directed. Never use it nearheat sources or open flames, do not permit anybodyto smoke.Check the coolant level only after the radiatorcap is cool enough to touch. Remove the radiatorcap slowly to relieve pressure .Know the location of the excavator's fireextinguisher and be familiar with its operation. Makesure you know your local fire regulations and firereporting procedures.Do not allow your skin to come into contactwith hot oil or components containing hot oil. At ornear operating temperature, engine and hydraulicoil is hot and can be under pressure.A fire extinguisher can be attached inside theoperator's cab, using the four threaded holesprovided in the rear left support of the cab.Always wear safety glasses and protectivegloves when handling batteries. Keep sparks oropen flames away!Never permit anyone to hand guide thebucket or grapple into position. When working in the engine area, make surethe top covers and side doors are properly securedor closed with the appropriate supports.Never work underneath or on the excavatorunless it is properly blocked and supported.FIRE AND EXPLOSION PREVENTIONAlways turn off the engine while refuelling theexcavator.Never smoke or allow an open flame inrefuelling areas or where batteries are beingcharged, or where batteries or flammable materialsare stored.Never leave machine unattended whilefuelling. During this operation, no one but theemployee in charge of refuelling is allowed to stayon the excavator.Always start the engine as described in theOperation and Maintenance Manual.2.3

ayour hand and lock it in its opened position, makingsure it is securely fixed in this position, so it can notbe slammed by the wind.Visually inspect the excavator, look for loosebolts, cracks, wear, any leaks and any evidence ofvandalism. If the weather conditions are bad, increaseyour attention to realise climbing or descent from thecab with a maximum of precautions, and do or let dothe preliminaries operations of preparation which arenecessary so you can move safely.MACHINE START UP SAFETYBefore excavator start up,thorough walk around inspection.performNever start or operate an unsafe excavator. With those conditions be especially vigilant.Go on climbing up, always holding yourself bythree points, enter the cab and seat down to the seatReport all defects to your foreman orsupervisor and make sure they are correctedimmediately. If applying fasten the seat belt. Unlock the doorusing the unlocking lever and close the door holdingit by the handle designed for this purpose. Onlythereafter lower the safety lever and start themachine.Make sure all covers and doors are closedand all warning decals are on the machine.Make sure all windows, as well as inside andoutside mirrors are clean, and secure all doors andwindows to prevent any unintentional movement. It is essential to have your seat belt fastened ifyou want to operate the machine with the cab dooropened.Should the belt be missing on your machine, so youmust compulsorily get one installed before you startworking with opened cab door.Be certain that the area surrounding theexcavator is free of other personnel, and that noone is working on or under the excavator beforestarting the engine. After entering the cab, adjust the operator sseat and controls, the inside and outside mirror, thearmrests and fasten and adjust the seat belt. Becertain that all controls can be reached comfortably.Covers and boxes locks have to be unlocked,to facilitate the fight against fire in case of.Proceed with the same precaution whileclimbing up and down the cab, as for the ascensionof the machineAll noise protection devices on the machinemust be functional during operation.Keep ladders, footsteps, handles andhandrail in clean condition and always free themfrom mud, oil, grease, ice, snow or any otherobstacles. To guarantee an easy opening of the cabdoor in all weather conditions, coat the rubberseals around the door with silicon oil or talcumevery two months and more often if necessary.Regularly grease the hinges and lock of the cabdoor as well the fixing device of the door inopened position.During maintenance works, always wear safetyglasses and proper protective clothes. To climb up or down the cab, the excavatormust be parked on firm, flat and level ground andthe uppercarriage must be swung so to alignladders and steps on upper and undercarriage.Face the excavator when climbing up ordown and always hold on to the machine at threepoints, i. e. keep the contact with the accesscomponents at the same time with two hands andone foot or with one hand and the two feet.As soon as you can reach the handle of thedoor with your free hand unlock it, and keepingyourself apart from the slewing range of the door, open the door before climbing up any more. Someexternal influences, and especially the wind, maymake the opening of the door uneasy. For thisreason, keep and guide the door all the way with2.4

Keep sufficient distance to electrical lines. When working in the vicinity of high voltageelectrical lines, keep proper distance to assure thatthe attachment does not come close to the lines.DANGER! You must inform yourself about safedistances.ENGINE START UP AND OPERATING SAFETYBefore start up, check if all indicator lightsand instruments are functioning properly, place allcontrols in neutral position and tilt the safety leverup.Preferably have the electrical lines de-energized(and lockout / tagged out according to theregulations applicable on the job-site) each time it ispossible, and in any case if the closeness of theworking area make it necessary. Before starting the engine, alert any nearbypersonnel that the excavator is being started bysounding the horn.Start the machine only when seated in theoperator s seat, and with the seat belt fastened (ifinstalled). In case you do touch a high voltage line byaccident, proceed as follows:If you have no other instructions, start theengine as outlined in the Operation andMaintenance Manual.do not leave the machine, move the machine, if possible, from the dangerzone until you obtain sufficient distance, warn any personnel in the vicinity not to comeclose to the excavator and not to touch it,instruct or initiate that someone turns off thevoltage.Do not leave the machine until you areabsolutely sure that voltage in the line, whichhad been touched or damaged, has beenturned off!Tilt the safety lever down and check allindicators, gauges, warning devices and controlsfor their proper indication.Start and operate the engine only in a wellventilated area. If necessary, open doors andwindows.Warm up the engine and hydraulic system tooperating temperatures. Low engine and hydraulicoil temperatures can cause the excavator to beunresponsive. Before moving the machine, make sure that theattachments and equipment is secured properly toavoid accidents.Check that all attachment functions areoperating properly. When travelling on public roads, make sure toobserve traffic regulations, and make sure that themachine meets federal and local public highwaystandards.Move the excavator slowly into an open areaand check all travel functions for their properoperation, check travel and swing brakes, thesteering function as well as the turn signals andlights.Always turn on the lights if visibility is bad or ifyou are still working during dusk.Never allow other personnel on the excavator.MACHINE OPERATING SAFETYOperate the excavator only while seated andwith the seat belt fastened, if installed.Familiarize yourself with job site rules. Beinformed about traffic and hand signals and safetysigns. Ask who is responsible for signalling.Check your surrounding for any obstacles in theworking and movement range, check the loadcarrying capacity of the terrain, and secure the jobsite to shield it from any public highway traffic.Rope off the working area of the machine andinstall the necessary signs to forbid any nonauthorized person entering the area.Always keep a safe distance from overhangs, walls, drop offs, and unstable ground.Do not move the excavator until you are certainthat no one is endangered by moving the excavator.Be alert of changing weather conditions, bador insufficient visibility and of changing groundconditions.Never leave the machine unattended (withinview of machine), with the engine running.Report any problems or needed repairs to yourforeman or supervisor and make sure they arecorrected immediately. On machines without negative brakes checkthe brake system before starting to work, as outlinedin the Operation and Maintenance Manual.Never leave the operator s seat while themachine is still moving. When moving the excavator, keep theuppercarriage in lengthwise direction and keep theload as close as possible to the ground.Be alert for utility lines, check the location ofunderground cables, gas and water lines, andwork especially careful in that vicinity. Ifnecessary and/ or if required, call localauthorities to mark the location, and takeprecaution against contact with undergroundutilities.2.5

Prevent any working movements, whichcould tip the machine over. If the excavator beginsto tip or slip on a grade, immediately lower theattachment and load to the ground and turn theexcavator facing downhill. If possible, always operate the excavator with theattachment positioned uphill or downhill, neversideways.Always travel slowly on rough or slipperyground and on slopes, and on loose soils.Repeated strikes against an object leads todamage to the steel structures and machinecomponents. Please refer to your LIEBHERR dealer ifspecial teeth for heavy-duty or special applicationsare required.Do not attach too large bucket or bucket withside cutters or that are during operations with rockymaterial. This would prolong the work cycles andmay lead to damage to the bucket as well as furthermachine components.Always travel downhill at permissible speed,so you don t loose control over the machine. Theengine must run at nominal speed, use only thefoot pedals to brake and slow down the machine.Never shift during down hill travel, always shift toa lower gear before travelling downhill.Load an occupied truck only if all safetyrequirements are fulfilled, notably in order toprotect the truck operator. With the 2x45 offset articulation, the offsetposition may only be employed if the working tool orthe attachment does not touch the material.Operation of the offset articulation to drill intothe material is not permitted.Do not lift the machine during operation. Shouldthis happen, lower the machine slowly back to theground. For demolition work, clearing, craneoperation, etc. always use the appropriateprotection device designed for this specificapplication.Do not let the machine fall heavily on theground and do not hold it back with the hydraulics. This would damage the machine. If operating in visually obstructed terrain orwhenever necessary, have another person guideyou. Always have only one person signal you.During operation with the attachment it isforbidden to raise the machine with the dozing blade(e.g. carving at the ceiling when tunnelling).Allow only experienced persons to attachloads or to guide operators. The guide must bevisible by the operator and / or must be in voicecontact with him.The hydraulic hammer must be selected withparticular care. When using a hydraulic hammer notpermitted by LIEBHERR, steel st
