TRINITYLUTHERANCHURCHThe Trinity NewsJuly 23, 2013www.trinitylutherancville.org.Pastor’s Perspective:“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)WHAT’SINSIDE Well, THAT’S good to hear, because our weather certainly isn’t the same each day.Preschool 2NewsSYNODNews2LME2Birthdays 3& ssion6Trip byBeth MillerCouncilNews7Calendar8Serving9In AugustThanks9As the old saying goes – one that is used by residence of any number of states –“Here in Ohio, if you don’t like the weather, wait a minute and it will change”. Thishas been a crazy year for weather and the seasons. In just the past two weeks itfelt like typical summer weather with almost a week of temperatures in the 90’s.Then along comes the rain and temperatures drop to the 70’s. It’s hard to know whatto expect or how to plan for the day. All year I couldn’t figure out whetherwe were going into a different season, or going out of a season. The weather changedso frequently that it was hard to know what season we are in.That is why – in all things of life – it is a great comfort to know that our Lord andSavior, Jesus Christ “is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Verse 6 of thatHebrews passage says: “So we can say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I willnot be afraid. What can anyone do to me?" Very important words to be reminded ofin changing times. You see it’s not just the weather that changes – there are so many aspects of ourlives and world that are changing. And it can be a frightening world, where most of usfeel overwhelmed and powerless. Every day we hear and see on the news that something has changed today: politics, finances, leadership over so many countries, warsand battles. Maybe the historic difference between our generation and the generations from the past is the almost immediate access to reports and information. Thatused to take days, weeks or even months to hear. Maybe all the change around usisn’t real change – it’s just the way of the world, the way humanity has always lived. It’s all too confusing for me.That’s why I like the Hebrews text: vs. 6 “So we can say with confidence, The Lord ismy helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?" vs. 8 “Jesus Christ is thesame yesterday and today and forever.” The weather may change; the world aroundus may change and we may be changing. But, the Good News for us is that the rockand center of our faith journey is our Lord, the God who never changes. God’s presence, strength and love never changes and is always with us. That is something wecan count on in Jesus’ Name. AmenPastor Gerhard

PAGE 2CHURCH NEWSSummer goes by so quickly and it is time to start thinking “Back to School.” The preschool rooms are beingcleaned and readied for another year. The teachers are itching to get back in and prepare for a new set ofexcited, young learners. Speaking of teachers, I want to recognize two of our faithful servants. With the2012/2013 school year, Liz Schechter completed her 5 th year with us as an assistant teacher in the 3 yearold classes and Amy White completed her 15th year working with the preschoolers here at Trinity. Amy hastaught our 4 year old classes for the past 11 years and was the assistant in the 4 year old classes for the 4years prior. Longevity of staff is so important in the consistent quality of our program and we are so blessedwith the dedicated and hard working teachers we have here at Trinity. Congratulations to both Amy and Lizon these amazing milestones! We will have our Parent Meeting on August 22 at 6:30PM. This is a time for preschool parents to receivepaperwork and information for the upcoming school year. We will have Teacher Meet & Greets on August27 from 9:00-11:00AM and on August 28 from 6:00-8:00PM. These are opportunities for a parent and childto visit the classroom and meet the teachers before beginning school the following week. First days of classes will be September 3 & 4. It is always exciting to gear up for another preschool year. We are ready towelcome a new group of happy, fun and ready-to-learn kids and their families into this wonderful ministry.Enjoy the rest of your summer and keep the preschool, its staff, children and families in your prayers as weprepare for another successful year!–Nancy Harrow, Director The Rev. Mission Trip 2013 by Beth MillerThis was my first year going on the Mission Trip, but I have wanted to go for a long time. I had heard somany great stories about the Mission Trip from members of the Congregation, and I knew that it was something I wanted to do. But I wanted to be able to take all 3 of my daughters with me and this was the 1st yearthat they were all old enough to go. I really felt that the Mission Trip would be a wonderful experience for allof us, and it was!One of my favorite events of the Mission Trip was on our 2nd day, when we stopped at Stone MountainPark. Our entire group boarded a cable car which carried us to the top of Stone Mountain. This is where wehad our Sunday morning worship service. For me, it was one of the most memorable worship services ofmy life. Sitting on top of the mountain, as high as where the birds were soaring, looking out over God’sbeautiful creation, was humbling, breathtaking, and inspiring. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, many of us had the privilege of working at the Faith EquestrianTherapeutic Center. It is a wonderful facility that uses horses to help children, adults and veterans with disabilities. We split into work groups and began tackling the lengthy list of projects. I was very impressed athow hard all of our groups worked. There was very little complaining, and everyone put forth their best effort. Many of our youth were doing jobs that they had never done before, like staining a wheelchair ramp, painting a barn or fence, digging trenches for logs to line a horse trail, building a goat pen, or operating achainsaw. They all took pride in their jobs and worked very hard!On the last night of our trip, we held a worship service at the large gazebo on the grounds of our camp. This was supposed to be our worship service at the beach, but tropical storm Andrea changed our plans.Although many of us were disappointed that both trips to the beach were rained out this year, the gazeboprovided us with another beautiful worship service. It was located in the woods, overlooking a lake. Theraindrops hitting the trees and the candlelight in the Gazebo provided a peaceful backdrop for another inspirational worship service.I feel very blessed to have shared this wonderful experience with this group of adults and youth. I now understand why the Mission Trip is so special to those that have gone on it before. It is a wonderful way forthe members of our congregation to gathering together to do God’s work. On behalf of the 2013 MissionTrip group, I invite you to come along with us next year.
