From the Pastor’s DeskDesde el Escritorio del PastorThe Year of Saint JosephOn December 8, 2020, Pope Francis initiated The Year of Saint Joseph, a year of devotion to the fosterfather of Jesus and spouse of Mary. It extends from December 8, 2020 to December 8, 2021 (the Feastof the Immaculate Conception). The Year of Saint Joseph has been opened to commemorate the 150thAnniversary of the Decree with which Pope Pius IX declared Saint Joseph Patron of the UniversalChurch. In his Apostolic Letter entitled Patris Corde (“With a Father’s Heart”), Pope Francis described Saint Joseph as a tender, loving, hardworking, and courageous father who is often in the shadows. The Holy Father wrote Patris Corde against thebackdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, which, he says, has helped us see more clearly the importance of “ordinary” people who, though far from the limelight, exercise patience and offer hope every day. In this, they resemble Saint Joseph. In our Catholictradition, Wednesday is the day of the week devoted to St. Joseph, thus my daily message on Wednesdays will be a prayer toSt. Joseph. On most Wednesdays, the parish Mass will be a Votive Mass in honor of Saint Joseph. Joseph is my ConfirmationName and he is one of my “go to” Saints in my prayers for special intentions. I encourage you and your family to make prayers and devotions to Saint Joseph a part of your daily prayer life. He is the Patron Saint of the Universal Church, unborn children, fathers, workers, travelers, immigrants, and a happy death.Below is the prayer that was on the Pope’s Apostolic Letter that I encourage you cut out and pray every day. Saint Joseph, pray for us and for all our families. Amen.Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.To you God entrusted his only Son;in you Mary placed her trust;with you Christ became man.Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a fatherand guide us in the path of life.Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage, and defend us from every evil. Amen.

A beautifulfeast. Jesus, freely shoved into the waters of the Jordan. Up tohis neck and more immersed in the painful depth of his creation. Buried. But, my friends, he went down “for the life ofthe world.” Buried beneath the waters of creation.and allMichael Doyle, 1975creation is reborn.******Two More Epiphanies!Today, we will recall Jesus’ baptism by John in the waters of theJordan. On Sunday, January 17th, we will recall the Wedding Feast ofCana and celebrate the first miracle of Christ’s public life!***Blessing of the WatersHoly Spirit, sharer of life, who hovered over thewaters of Creation, you have established us in a circle of communion with the entire Cosmos. Hear us aswe ask your blessing. With this water we bless the rivers and streams. We bless theOcean and its depths and all the seven Seas, washing the shoresof all the lands. We bless the Sea and the Land and all who dwellin them. Grant us, O God, a restored consciousness of the holydepths within us. Asmuch as anyone who ever followed the teaching of Jesus, he triedto call people to unity and equality. God bless him!World peace through nonviolent means is neither absurd norunattainable. All other methods have failed. Thus we must beginanew. Nonviolence is a good starting point. Those of us who believe in this method can be voices of reason, sanity, and understanding amid the voices of violence, hatred, and emotion. Wecan very well set a mood of peace out of which a system of peacecan be built.Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.Friday, January 15th, is his real day of birth and the nationalholiday is next week, Monday, January 18, 2021 - make it aday of service not rest!***Dinner at Joe’s PlaceFood Truck is back for month of January!
