About the College of MedicineDiscovery Pathways ProgramThe Discovery Pathways Program is an optional program for medicalstudents to build a portfolio of accomplishment and scholarship in adefined area acceptable to pathway leadership. The overall goals of Discovery Pathways are: Expose medical students to research and begin their training asPhysician Scientists Allow students to perform an extended research project within their4 year medical school curriculum, and graduate with theirclassmates Students may apply for Graduation with Honors in Research and theCraig Tisher MD Faculty in Research Prize in their fourth year ofmedical school Be flexible enough so that students may choose to extend theirresearch experience beyond the primary track and pursue theMD/PhD program

The Discovery Tracks

Track Activities Year 1 Identify a mentor and develop a R&D project Immersive Experience - 10-weeks summer 1st/2nd year Academic course credit Scholarship funds Year 2 - present poster of summer research in AnnualMedical Student Research Day – may continue R&D project Year 3 - seminars, group meetings, reports Year 4 – research electives blocks – 2 x 4 weeks– Graduation with Honors in Research Capstone work product – appropriate to the R&Dproject -- journal paper, development of an improvedclass curriculum, improve an outreach program, international projects, webpresentations 28 medical students in class of 2018
