It also describes how to print to theEX Print Server. INTRODUCTION7Downloading printer drivers using WebToolsYou can install printer drivers and printer description files from the User Software DVD ordirectly from the EX Print Server with WebTools.For more information about setting up and starting WebTools, see Utilities.TO DOWNLOAD PRINTER DRIVERS WITH WEBTOOLS1 Start your Internet or intranet browser and type the DNS name or IP address of theEX Print Server.2 Click the Downloads tab.3 Click the link for the printer drivers that you want to install (Printer Files for Mac OS X).A file named OSX.dmg is downloaded to your desktop. The file contains a folder namedPrinter Driver in a BinHex-encoded, compressed format. If your Internet browser is equippedwith an expander utility, such as StuffIt Expander, the folder decodes and decompressesautomatically.If the Printer Driver folder does not automatically decode and decompress, double-click thefile to start the utility that performs that function.4 Install the appropriate printer driver for your operating system.For instructions on installing the printer driver for Mac OS X, see “Installing Mac OS Xprinter drivers and printer description files” on page 8.System requirementsFor detailed system requirements, see Welcome, provided in your media pack.

SETTING UP PRINTINGONMAC OS X8SETTING UP PRINTING ON MAC OS XTo set up the EX Print Server as a PostScript printer on a Mac OS X computer, installthe printer driver files that correspond to your digital press. The printer driver files areprovided on the User Software DVD or can be downloaded using WebTools. Printer driversprovide a way to communicate information about print jobs between your applications, theEX Print Server, and the digital press.Installing Mac OS X printer drivers and printer description filesThe User Software DVD contains the following software for Mac OS X (see the OSX : PrinterDriver folder): OSX Installer: Installs the printer driver files required to print from Mac OS X. Language folders: Printer description files that are installed by OSX Installer. You do notneed to open these folders or install them manually on your computer. The appropriatefiles are installed by OSX Installer.TO INSTALL THE PRINTER DESCRIPTION FILES FOR MAC OS X1 Quit all open applications.2 Make sure that the Printer Setup Utility is not running on your computer.Printer Setup Utility updates the list of available printers when it starts. If a printer descriptionfile is added while Printer Setup Utility is running, you cannot select the associated printermodel until you restart.3 Insert the User Software DVD into the DVD drive.4 Open the OSX : Printer Driver folder on the User Software DVD.5 Double-click the OSX Installer icon to start installing the printer driver.6 Follow the on-screen instructions.The OSX Installer installs the printer driver files that correspond to the EX Print Server.7 When copying is complete, click Quit.

SETTING UP PRINTINGONMAC OS XSetting up the EX Print Server on Mac OS XAfter you install the printer driver files on Mac OS X, you must set up the EX Print Serverin the Printer Setup Utility. This section describes how to set up the EX Print Server andconfigure the EX Print Server for the options installed on the digital press.TO SET UP THE EX PRINT SERVER IN THE PRINTER SETUP UTILITY (FOR MAC OS X V10.3.9)1 Choose Utilities from the Go menu and start the Printer Setup Utility.The Printer List dialog box appears.2 Click Add.3 Choose AppleTalk or IP printing from the menu that appears.4 For AppleTalk, choose the AppleTalk Zone and choose the name of the EX Print Server.If the zone is not listed as the Default Zone, or one of the Recent Zones, selectAppleTalk Network, select the zone, and then click Choose. Proceed to step 6.9

SETTING UP PRINTINGONMAC OS X10For IP Printing, type the IP address or DNS name of the printer in the Printer Address fieldand the print connection (Print, Hold, or Direct) in the Queue Name field.5 For Printer Model, choose Xerox and the appropriate model, and then select the file for theEX Print Server PPD.6 Click Add.The EX Print Server is added to the list of printers.7 (Optional) With the EX Print Server selected, choose Printers Create Desktop Printer,specify a name and location for the icon, and then click Save.You can now print a file to the EX Print Server by clicking and dragging the file to theEX Print Server Desktop Printer icon.You are ready to configure installable options for the EX Print Server. For information aboutconfiguring installable options, see “To configure installable options” on page 15.

SETTING UP PRINTINGONMAC OS X11TO SET UP THE EX PRINT SERVER WITH BONJOUR CONNECTION TYPE IN THE PRINTER SETUP UTILITYN OTE : Bonjour printers are available to Mac OS X v10.4.x computers only if Bonjour isenabled on the EX Print Server.1 Choose Utilities from the Go menu and start Printer Setup Utility.The Printer List dialog box appears.2 Click Add.3 Click Default Browser.4 Select the printer with the Bonjour connection type from the Printer Name list.5 Click Add.6 Choose the installable options and click Continue.The EX Print Server is added to the list of printers.7 To create a desktop printer, select the EX Print Server, choose Printers Create DesktopPrinter, specify a name and location for the icon, and then click Save.You can now print a file to the EX Print Server by dragging the file to the EX Print ServerDesktop Printer icon.

SETTING UP PRINTINGONMAC OS X12TO SET UP THE EX PRINT SERVER IN THE PRINTER SETUP UTILITY (FOR MAC OS X V10.4)1 Choose Utilities from the Go menu, and start Printer Setup Utility.The Printer List dialog box appears.2 Click Add.3 Choose the Default Browser tab or the IP Printer tab.4 In the Default Browser, choose the name of the EX Print Server with the AppleTalk connectiontype from the Printer Name list.If the printer is not listed in the Printer Name list, click More Printers.

SETTING UP PRINTINGONMAC OS X13If the zone is not listed as the Default Zone, or one of the Recent Zones, selectAppleTalk Network, select the zone, and then click Choose. Proceed to step 6.For LPD/LPR printing, choose Line Printer Daemon - LPD, type the IP address or DNS nameof the printer in the Address field, and the print connection (Print, Hold, or Direct) in theQueue field. Proceed to step 5.

SETTING UP PRINTINGONMAC OS X14For IP Printing, choose Internet Printing Protocol - IPP, type the IP address or DNS name ofthe printer in the Address field, and the print connection (Print, Hold, or Direct) in theQueue field. Proceed to step 5.5 For Printer Model or Print Using, choose Xerox and the appropriate model, and then select thefile for the EX Print Server PPD.6 Click Add.7 Choose the installable options and click Continue.The EX Print Server is added to the list of printers.N OTE : If you want to change the configuration for the installable options, or chooseAppleTalk connection, see “To configure installable options” on page 15.8 (Optional) To create a desktop printer, select the EX Print Server, choose Printers CreateDesktop Printer, specify a name and location for the icon, and then click Save.You can now print a file to the EX Print Server by dragging the file to the EX Print ServerDesktop Printer icon.

SETTING UP PRINTINGONMAC OS X15Configuring installable optionsFor Mac OS X v10.3.9, you must configure the EX Print Server for the options installed onthe digital press to allow the EX Print Server to take advantage of the digital press optionsafter you complete the printer driver installation. Configure the options manually. You canchange the configuration for the installable options later if necessary.N OTE : For more information about the print settings, see Print Options.TO CONFIGURE INSTALLABLE OPTIONS1 Choose Utilities from the Go menu and start the Printer Setup Utility.2 Select your printer in the Printer List.3 Choose Show Info from the Printers menu.4 Choose Installable Options.5 Select the appropriate settings.6 Click Apply Changes.7 Close the window.

PRINTING UTILITIES16PRINTING UTILITIESThe following methods allow you to print to the EX Print Server: USB device FTP printingPrinting from a USB deviceYou can print files on a USB device to the EX Print Server. To do so, save files to the USBdevice and download them directly to the EX Print Server. You can print files that originatedon Mac OS computers.You can print files automatically from a USB device to one of the standard print queues onthe EX Print Server (Print, Hold, or Direct) or to published virtual printers. Verify with youradministrator that these connections are published in Setup. You can also print any of the fileson your USB device, specify where to send them, and select some print options. For moreinformation about virtual printers, see Utilities.Before you print files from a USB device, ask your administrator to configure the appropriateoptions. For more information about configuring the appropriate options, see Configurationand Setup.The two methods of printing files from a USB device are automatic printing and manualprinting.Automatic printingTo print automatically to Print, Hold, or Direct queues, or to published virtual printers withthe Print All setting, set up folders on your USB device with the names Print, Hold, andDirect, and the names of any published virtual printers. When you plug the USB device intoa USB port on the EX Print Server, the files in those folders are sent automatically to thecorresponding queues.

PRINTING UTILITIES17TO PRINT FILES FROM THE USB DEVICE1 Configure the USB printing options in Setup.For more information, see Configure Help.2 Create folders at the top (root) level of the USB device named Print, Hold, and Direct.3 Copy the files (PS, EPS, PCL, TIFF, and PDF) from the user’s computer to the USB device.Files copied to the Print, Hold, and Direct folders are downloaded to the corresponding printconnection on the EX Print Server automatically when you connect the USB device to theEX Print Server. Files copied to the root level of the USB device are downloaded to the Printqueue.4 Remove the USB device from the computer and connect it to the USB connector on theEX Print Server.For the location of the USB port, see Configuration and Setup.Make sure that the USB device is properly stopped before you disconnect it from thecomputer.Manual printingWhen USB Media Auto Print is disabled in Server Setup, you must manually select the filesyou want to print from the USB device and specify where you want to send them.TO PRINT USING USB MEDIA SERVER1 Insert the USB device into a USB port on the EX Print Server.2 Press the All Services icon at the upper-right corner of the digital press control panel.3 Press Web Applications on the digital press control panel.The Main page is displayed.4 Press USB Media Server located in the lower-left corner of the Main page.The queues (Print, Hold or Direct) are displayed. The queues displayed correspond to thefolders that you created on the USB device.The files on the USB device are displayed on the digital press control panel. Both files at theroot level of the USB device and folders are displayed.5 Press Browse next to a directory.6 Print one file or all files in the directory. To print one file, click Print and proceed to step 7. To print all files in the directory, click Print All located in the lower-left corner.

PRINTING UTILITIES187 Specify print options for the file.The print options you can choose are: Queue (Print, Direct or Hold) Number of copies Duplex (Off, Top-Top, Top-Bottom) Page Size8 Press Print to send the file to the EX Print Server for printing.9 Remove the USB device from the EX Print Server.FTP printingIf FTP Services are enabled on the EX Print Server, the EX Print Server is set up as an FTPserver. You can send jobs to the EX Print Server using FTP printing. For more informationon configuring FTP Services, see Configuration and Setup.You can use any FTP client software. Before you can use FTP printing, the FTP clientsoftware requires the following information (see your administrator): IP address or DNS name for the EX Print Server Directory or path to send the job to, such as the Print Queue, Hold Queue, or publishedvirtual printers (if supported)N OTE : You cannot print to the Direct connection using FTP printing. User name and password (if required)You can send PostScript (PS), Printer Control Language (PCL), Tagged Image File Format(TIFF), and Portable Document Format (PDF) files to the EX Print Server. EncapsulatedPostScript (EPS) files are not supported for FTP printing.TO PRINT FILES TO THE EX PRINT SERVER USING THE FTP PROTOCOL1 Connect to the EX Print Server with your FTP client software.Folders corresponding to the Print queue and Hold queue are displayed. Folders for anypublished virtual printer are also displayed.2 Navigate to the folder representing the print connection or published virtual printer.3 Upload your job to the folder that you want.After the job is printed, it is deleted from the EX Print Server.

PRINTINGFROMMAC OS X19PRINTING FROM MAC OS XPrint to the EX Print Server as you would print to any other printer from a Mac OS Xapplication. Select a printer and print the file from within the application. In addition to thismethod, you can download files to the EX Print Server using Hot Folders (see Utilities) or theDocs tab in WebTools (see Utilities), and print documents using Command WorkStation(see Utilities).Printing from applications with Mac OS XAfter you install the EX Print Server printer description files using the OSX Installer, you canprint directly from most Mac OS X applications. For more information about installingprinter description files with the OSX Installer see page 8.To achieve optimal printing results from specific applications, see Color Printing and FieryColor Reference.Setting print options and printing from Mac OS XIn Mac OS X applications, print options are set from the Page Setup dialog box and the Printdialog box. For information about specific print options, see Print Options.N OTE : Some default print options are set by your administrator during Setup. For informationabout the current server default settings, contact your administrator or the operator.

PRINTINGFROMMAC OS X20N OTE : The following procedure shows Mac OS X v10.4 illustrations.TO SET PRINT OPTIONS AND PRINT FROM MAC OS X1 Open a file and choose Page Setup from the application’s File menu.2 For Settings, choose Page Attributes. For Format for, choose the EX Print Server.The Paper Size option in the Page Setup dialog box is the same as the Document Size printoption in the Fiery Features Media tab. Document Size is the page size defined in youroriginal application’s Print setup (or Page Setup) dialog box.The Paper Size print option in the Fiery Features Media tab is the size of the actual sheet ofpaper on which your job will print. The default value of the actual paper size is the paper sizeset in the Page Setup dialog box.3 Select the Page settings for your print job.4 Click OK.5 Choose Print from the application’s File menu.6 Choose the EX Print Server as your printer.

PRINTINGFROMMAC OS X217 Choose Fiery Features from the drop-down list.N OTE : For information about Two-Way Communication, see page 36.8 Click Customize to specify the options shown in the Basic window.You can select a shortcut from the Available Shortcuts list and add it to the Current Shortcutslist, as well as removing a shortcut from the Current Shortcuts list.You can specify how the shortcuts are displayed on the Basic window by selecting a shortcut inthe Current Shortcuts list, and then clicking Move Up or Move Down.Click OK to save your changes.
