ACCUPLACER OVERVIEWWhat is ACCUPLACER?The CollegeBoard ACCUPLACER is a suite of tests that quickly, accurately, and efficiently assess reading, writing, math, and computer skills. At Hennepin Technical College, the ACCUPLACER tests are used as apart of the admissions process to determine your level of readiness for college-level courses. The results ofthe assessment, in conjunction with your academic background, goals, and interests are used by academicadvisors and counselors to determine your course selection. You cannot "pass" or "fail" the placement tests, but it is very important that you do your very best on thesetests so that you will have an accurate measure of your academic skills. The test has the following characteristics: Computer based Multiple choice Untimed (except computer portion) Computer adaptive or based on your level of abilityHow ACCUPLACER worksACCUPLACER is an untimed, computerized multiple choice test. The test presents one question per testscreen with a set of answer choices. The test grades each question as it is completed. You can change youranswer to a particular question before moving on to the next question, but once the answer is submitted, you cannot come back to it later to change your answer. The test is also computer adaptive, meaning thatthe test administers questions based on how you are performing on each question. This allowsACCUPLACER to accurately score and provide a placement based on your result.ACCUPLACER TEST SETUPAt Hennepin Technical College, students generally take the following sections: ReadingComprehension, Sentence Skills, Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra (score dependent), CollegeLevel Math (score dependent), Computer Literacy (program dependent) and Keyboarding(program dependent).Below is a breakdown of the sections: Reading Comprehension – 20 questions (untimed) Sentence Skills – 20 questions (untimed) Arithmetic – 17 questions (untimed)
