The character is armed with whatever weapon is placed in his hand; thisaffects his ersKobesWeaponsShieldKingsKingsSandalsBootsAbility scoresAbility scores reflect the character's latent strength enhanced byarmament or other equipment. Latent abilities vary from character to character; when a character is wearing no armor or noweapons, the base ability score is shown. Character screenCharacter screenSkiIllevelsAdvancing skillsA character's abilities as a Fighter, Rogue, and Mage are reflected here as skill levels. The meter bar shows how close the character is to advancing to the next skill level. Your character startshis quest as a beginner in all skill categories.Fighter skill determines how well a character fights inhand-to-hand combat. In the danger-fraught Lands, there are plenty of opportunities to improve this skillthrough combat.Rogue skill determines how well a character can picklocks and use bows and thrown weapons. Practicemakes perfect: the more you pick locks and use bows, the quicker your Rogue skill will advance. Characterswith a high Rogue skill will also be more likely to locatetraps and items hidden in the Lands.1tThe meter bar next to each skill name reflects how farthe character is towards advancing that skill to the nextlevel. Advancement requires experience. When your character is the only one in the party, thenall you do counts toward your character's experience andskill advancement. When there is more than one characterin the party, click on the portrait, combat button, or spellbutton to make one of the characters the active character. The active character is indicated by the box around thecharacter's portrait. This indicates that this character'sskills and abilities are currently used. For example, when you pick a lock, you are employingthe active character's Rogue skill. For the best chance ofsuccess, click on the portrait of the character with thehighest Rogue skill level. This will make that character theactive character, and in picking the lock you are employinghis high Rogue skill.A character's Mage level determines his ability to castspells. Cast spells frequently to improve this skill. Asthis skill advances, the character can cast more complexspells more quickly. Acquiring spell scrolls and usingmagical items may boost magic levels.L." CombatCombatInjury Bt. recoveryWeaponsThe Health bar will decrease as a character takes damage. If the Health bar is red, that character is in grave danger; a single blow could render him unconscious. If allcharacters in the party are unconscious, the game ends. When your character is unconscious, he cannot behealed by rest alone. You must use aloe, ginseng, salve ormagic to restore consciousness. Each weapon affects Might and Protection scores differently. For purposes of combat, there are three types of weapons: cutting, crushing, and puncture. When fighting a particularly toughopponent, consider the difference between bladed and bluntedweapons. Opponents with unusually tough hides, such as thegiant lizards of the Southlands, are resistant to blades. In thisinstance, a blunt mace is much more erArrowKestingTo rest, left-click the rest button. Thisis the easiest way to heal injuries andrestore magic. As long as a character isconscious, he can fully recover his healthby resting. If your party is resting in anunsafe place, there's a good chance monsters will interrupt your repose.MedicinalsMedicinals can be used at any time, even in the middleof combat. Different medicinals have different potenciesand their effect will vary, but even weak medicines areuseful for restoring consciousness. Aloe is used for minorhealing. A salve is a more potent healing agent. Ginsengis special because it will cure poison as well.PAGE 1 2ArmorYou can greatly improve acharacter's Protection score byequipping him with armor.
