OPCWTechnical SecretariatS/1856/20206 March 2020ENGLISH onlyNOTE BY THE TECHNICAL SECRETARIATINFORMATION FOR NATIONAL AUTHORITIES OF STATES PARTIES ONAPPROVED INSPECTION EQUIPMENT FOR FAMILIARISATION PURPOSES1.In its decision on the list of approved inspection equipment with operationalrequirements and technical specifications, the Conference of the States Parties(hereinafter “the Conference”) at its Fifteenth Session requested the Director-Generalto establish an appropriate mechanism to assist the National Authorities in theirfamiliarisation with approved equipment and its use (C-I/DEC.71*, dated30 November 2010).2.The Director-General wishes to draw the attention of the States Parties to theaforementioned decision (subparagraph (d) of Annex 1 to C-I/DEC.71*):1In order to satisfy the ISP and to enable it to familiarise itself with allthe operational characteristics concerned, the National Authority ofeach State Party should have access to each item of equipmentcontained in the list of approved equipment and how it is to be used ina sufficient amount of time prior to its use on the territory of the ISP.In case any State Party finds that it is denied such access to any item ofequipment approved for inspection purposes, it has the right to denypermission for that item of equipment to be used on its nationalterritory. The Director-General has also made an information package onapproved inspection equipment available to National Authorities for familiarisationpurposes (S/129/99, dated 1 July 1999).4.To further assist National Authorities in the familiarisation process, theDirector-General provided National Authorities with a consolidated list of approvedinspection equipment in use by the Technical Secretariat (hereinafter “theSecretariat”) for inspection/verification purposes. As the previous consolidated list(S/1375/2016) dates from April 2016, the Secretariat prepared an updated version,consistent with C-I/DEC.71*.
