However, Ican’t resist telling you all that I got an early Christmas present from, of all places, HyVee. LastSeptember I bought some Gustare Vita (which translates “enjoy life”) Italian pasta at HyVee; and, asusual, they scanned my fuel saver card. Unbeknownst to me, I had been automatically entered into theirSay Ciao to Italia contest that had asits main prizes a trip to Italy for twoand an Italian Vespa scooter. (By theway, for those of you who don’t knowany Italian “vespa” is Italian for‘wasp’, and Vespa scooters do have avague resemblance to wasps in bothshape and sound.) About a month ago,I got a call from Tony at HyVeetelling me that I had won the Vespa—a red one. I’ve never won anything ofthis magnitude before and I couldn’thave been more surprised! Well, ittook a number of weeks for thescooter to be shipped to Iowa City, and all the moped safety coursesended in October and won’t resumeuntil spring. Therefore, since I have no experience riding motorbikes of any kind, the Vespa will bespending the winter in my garage. Ciao for now, my Vespa!I hope you’ve been attending the great UIRA programming that Emil and his committee have arranged.Next up is President Bruce Harreld, who will present his perspectives on the past year at Iowa. This isalways an interesting talk and President Harreld has done this since his arrival at Iowa, making it a newUIRA tradition. If you miss this one, there will be more excellent events next year.I wish you a wonderful Holiday Season and I will see you in 2019!
