University of PennsylvaniaSchool of Engineering and Applied ScienceSummer 2013 Career Plans SurveyRising Juniors—Class of 2015SUMMER 2013 SURVEY OF RISING JUNIORS—CLASS OF 2015OVERVIEWCareer Services surveys students at the end of the summer, seeking information about students’summer activities. Students in the class of 2015 were “rising juniors” during Summer 2013, and 184(41%) of 449 students completed this survey. Rising juniors may engage in a range of summer activities:taking courses at Penn, elsewhere, or abroad; volunteering; interning in a paid or unpaid, full-time orpart-time position; traveling; engaging in research on one’s own or at Penn or another institution;externing or job shadowing; or any combination of summer activities. For the class of 2015, 80% of the respondents shared information about work experiences (summer job, internship, volunteer work, externship)—both full-time and part-time.Prepared by Beth Olson, Associate DirectorApril 2014SUMMER 2013 PRIMARY ACTIVITY(as reported by 184 3%Research6%Travel1%Work Experience—Paid67%TABLE OF CONTENTSWork Experiences—Hours and Wages .pageHow Students Obtained Summer Positions .pageDate Summer Offer Received .pageEmployers with Most Offers Accepted .pageLocation of Summer Positions .pageInternational Experiences .pageSummer Positions by Industry .pageSummer Positions Reported by Major .pageSummer 2013 Survey of Rising Juniors (Class of 2015)22233344p. 1
