NEW OFFICE BEARERSThe IAP-ID congratulates and welcomes the new Councilors Dr. K. S. Ratnakar (Hyderabad) and Dr. S. Sankar(Trivandrum), who were elected at the Annual Meeting held at the PGIMER, Chandigarh, on 26th November2007. For the benefit of the members their brief biodata is given below:Dr. K. S. RATNAKARProf. Dr. K. S. Ratnakar is currently Chairman, Global Medical Education & Research Center, Hyderabadand Chief of Laboratory Sciences, Global Hospitals, Hyderabad. He did his MBBS from Andhra University andM.D (Pathology) from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Dr. Ratnakar is a Fellowof International College of Surgeons, Fellow of International Medical Sciences Academy and Founder Fellowof Indian College of PathologistsIn his long and illustrious career Dr. Ratnakar has held several important positions and was the Head ofPathology, Dr. R. P. Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi (1974 - 1986); Professor & Head, Department of Pathology, M R MedicalCollege, Gulbarga (1980 - 1986); Prof. & Head Dept. of Pathology, NIMS, Hyderabad (1986 – 2004); Dean, NIMS,Hyderabad 1992-1997. He was also the Professor of Pathology, Arabian Gulf University, Bahrain (1999-2003) andConsultant, Department of Pathology, Ministry of Health, Salmaniya Medical Complex, Kingdom of Bahrain (On Sabbatical)from October 1999 to January 2003.Prof. Ratnakar is the Honorary Director, Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad. He is also member of the Scientific AdvisoryCommittee NIN / ICMR; Ethical Committee, Bhagvan Mahaveer Hospital & Research Center; and Ethical Committee, LVPE,Hyderabad. He has been a former member of many national and state bodies like Union Public Service Commission, SelectionCommittee in Pathology; Governing Council,NIMS, Hyderabad; Hyderabad Eye Research Foundation; Faculty SelectionCommittee, PGI & AIIMS; Board of Studies, SGPGI, Lucknow; and Board of Studies of Bangalore and Gulbarga Universities.Prof. K. Ratnakar has been the President (1998) and earlier Secretary (1993 – 1995) of the Indian Association ofPathologists & Microbiologists; Former Chairman, Karnataka State Chapter of Indian Association of Pathology &Microbiology (KCIAPM); Former Editor - in -Chief, Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology (IJPM); former AssistantChief Editor, Bahrain Medical Bulletin; and reviewer for Indian Journal of Opthalmology. He is a member of severalprofessional bodies like International Academy of Pathology- Indian Division (IAP-ID), Indian Association of Pathologists& Microbiologists (IJPM), All India Ophthalmological Society and A. P. Ophthalmic Society.Having a teaching and research experience of more than 30 years (Post M.D), Prof. Ratnakar is a visiting Professor toseveral prestigious Institutions like University of Illinois, Chicago; New England Medical Center, Boston; Sankara NethralayaMedical Research Foundation, Madras; Shivaji University, Sholapur; Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ananthapur; and SriSatya Sai Institute Of Medical Sciences University, Prashantigram. He has also been a speaker at several prestigiousInstitutions of India. He has been an Examiner for Undergraduate & Post Graduate Medical Examinations of Bangalore,Mysore, Pune, Calcutta, Berhampur, Kakatiya, Nagarjuna, Venkateswara and MGR Universities, AIIMS, NIMS, etc. Dr.Ratnakar has conducted over 12 CMEs & Workshops, has more than 220 publications in national & international Journalsand around 120 presentations in national and international fora. Sankar is currently working as Associate professor of Pathology at Medical College,Kottayam, Kerala. He graduated from Government Tirunelveli Medical College, Tamil Nadu in 1986. Dr. Sankarcompleted MD (Pathology) from Medical College, Trivandrum in 1990. He has been working in Medical EducationService of Kerala since 1989 for the past 18 years mostly in Medical College, Trivandrum. Dr. S. Sankar is a Facultymember of Centre for Health Professions’ Education (Teacher Training Centre) in Trivandrum Medical Collegesince 1994. He has worked in Ocular Pathology in Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Trivandrum for 3 years.Dr. S. Sankar has been Secretary / Treasurer of IAPM Kerala Chapter from 1996-1998. He is a Life member of IAPM and a memberof the IAP-ID. A dynamic personality, Dr. S. Sankar has organized several CME programmes and Conferences in Kerala includingIAP-ID programmes. He has helped organize and actively participated in 3 National seminars of IAP-ID and organized the MidYear Teaching Programme workshop and Annual CME of IAP-ID. Dr. S. Sankar’s special fields of interest are Medical Education,Dermatopathology, Bioethics and event management. He has published 11 research papers and has been a regular Under Graduateand Post Graduate examiner to all south Indian Universities.

IAP – ID Academic Activities 2009The IAP-ID has the following programmes during thecourse of the year : Mid Year Teaching Programme (usually aWorkshop) IAP-ID Annual CME Annual Meeting (usually held in conjunction withIAPM Meeting) having a Symposium and SlideSeminar.Those members desirous of organizing and hostingthe Mid Year Teaching Programme 2009 or the 12thIAP-ID Annual CME 2009 should send their concreteproposals with the theme of the meeting to theSecretary & Treasurer, Dr. Francisco Couto.For the Annual Meeting 2009 (held along with theIAPM Co nference), t hose desirous of beingModerators for the Symposium or Slide Seminarshould send in their names along with the proposedtitle of the Symposium and Slide Seminar to theSecretary & Treasurer, IAP-ID. Also as per thedecision of the General Body of the IAP-ID certaintopics have been suggested as possible subjects for theSlide Seminar and Symposium. IAP-ID ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2007CHANDIGARHThe Annual Conference of the International Academy of Pathology – IndianDivision was held on 26th November 2007 at PGIMER, Chandigarh, and delegatesfrom all parts of India and some overseas countries were in attendance.The Conference began with a short Inaugural function at which the ChiefGuest was Dr. K. K. Talwar, Director, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences& Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, who inaugurated the meeting by lighting thetraditional lamp in the distinguished presence Dr. B. N. Datta (the Guest ofHonour), Dr. K. Uma Chaturvedi (President IAP-ID), Dr. Francisco Couto (Secretary& Treasurer IAP-ID), Dr. Kusum Joshi (Chairperson) and Dr. Rakesh KumarVasishta (Organizing Secretary). The Proceedings Booklet of the Meeting wasreleased by Prof. B. N. Dutta.Inauguration of the Annual Conference 2007The Scientific Programme followed immediately after the Inaugural functionwith the Guest lecture delivered by Dr. Jaime Prat, Chairman and Professor ofPathology, Barcelona, Spain, on “ Endometrial Carcinoma: ConventionalPathology, Molecular Genetics, and Prognostic Factors”. Later, Prof. Prat alsoconducted an excellent slide seminar on “Gynaecological Pathology” wherein hediscussed some interesting cases. Both the presentations of Dr. Prat were highlyappreciated by all the delegates present. The IAP-ID expresses its gratitude andthanks to Dr. Jaime Prat.Following the Guest Lecture was the excellent Slide Seminar on “MelanoticLesions of the Skin” ably moderated by Dr. Manoj K. Singh (New Delhi). Thevarious cases were beautifully presented and discussed by Dr. Manoj Singh andhis panelists Dr Asha Kubba ( New Delhi), Dr S V Kane (Mumbai), Dr SumeetGujral (Mumbai), Dr. Asaranti Kar (Cuttack), Dr Shipra Agarwal (New Delhi) andDr Ruchika Gupta (New Delhi). Slide boxes had been provided earlier, at cost,by Dr. Manoj Singh to those desirous of pre viewing the slides.This was followed by a very interesting lecture on “Immune RestorationInflammatory Syndrome” delivered by the special invitee Prof. Ann Marie Nelson,Chief of AIDS Pathology and Emerging Infections, AFIP, Washington, USA.Delegates were very appreciative of the lecture. The IAP-ID expresses its gratitudeand thanks to Dr. Ann Marie Nelson.In the post lunch session there was the Symposium on “Interstitial LungDiseases” moderated very well by Dr. Kusum Joshi (New Delhi). The topic wasbeautifully discussed by Prof. Kusum Joshi and her panelists Dr. Dheeraj Gupta,Dr Ashim Das, Dr Amanjit Bal (all from Chandigarh) and Dr Ritu Kulsreshta(New Delhi) and was much appreciated by the audience.
