Ohio Administrative CodeRule 3341-3-10 Graduate admissions-graduate.Effective: May 23, 2019(A) Policy statement and purposeThis policy describes criteria and procedures for graduate admissions.(B) Policy(1) Admission deadlines(a) Domestic application credentials are due no laterthan:Fourteen calendar days prior to the start ofthe admit term(b) International application and credential materials are due nolater than:(i) Fall admission- July fifteenth(ii) Spring admission- November fifteenth(iii) Summer admission- May fifteenth(c) Academic program deadlines:Academic programs may have their own earlierdeadlines. Prospective students should check with theacademic programs towhich they intend to apply for specific application deadlines. Programs mayrefuse to consider applicants who do not comply with posted deadlines.(d) Applicants are admitted to the graduate college for aspecific term only. If an applicant wishes tobegin graduate coursework earlierthan the admit term, the individual must receive approval from thePage 1

academicprogram prior to registering for classes. If an applicant wishes to begingraduate courseworklater than the admit term, the individual may request adeferment for up to twelve months. Thedeferment request should be submitted tothe graduate college and must be approved by the academicprogram. An applicantwho has received a deferment must update and/or verify all contactinformationprior to initial registration.(e) Applicants who do not enroll for the admit term or receiveapproval for a deferment will havetheir application cancelled. In order to beadmitted to a subsequent term the applicant must submit anew application,including the application fee and any updated credentials.(2) Graduate concurrent eral-counsel/documents/ enrollment-and-registrationgraduate.pdf(3) Admissions categoriesThere are four graduate admission categories: regular admission, conditional admission, ELSconditional admission, and graduate non-degree.(a) Regular admissionApplicants are eligible for regular admissionto the graduate college if they have a minimumcumulative undergraduate gradepoint average of two point seventy-five out of four point zero or theequivalent. An academic program may also request regular admission if anapplicant has a minimumgrade point average of three point zero in the lastsixty credits of completed undergraduate work or agrade point average of threepoint zero or higher in at least nine credits of graduate coursework.Admissionto the graduate college is contingent upon completion of the applicationprocess,recommendation from the academic program, and approval by the dean ofthe graduate college.Final official credentials must be submittedto the graduate college prior to the start of the admit term.All admissionsare considered provisional until all required documents have been received.Studentswho fail to supply the required documents will have a registrationhold placed on their accounts forPage 2

any subsequent term of enrollment until theyare received.(b) Conditional admissionApplicants who do not meet the listedcriteria for regular admission, or have deficiencies in otheradmissionscriteria, are not eligible for regular admission to the graduate college.However,conditional admission status may be granted with the recommendation ofthe academic program andapproval by the dean of the graduate college.Applicants admitted conditionally must earn aminimum cumulative grade pointaverage of three point zero in the first nine graded graduate hourscompleted(e.g., no S/U or audit). Academic programs may specify additional requirementsofstudents granted conditional admission status. Please note thatinternational students cannot be issuedan I-20 from BGSU based on aconditional admission.If a cumulative grade point average of threepoint zero is not achieved in the first nine gradedgraduate hours completed,the student shall be dismissed from the program and the graduatecollege.A student who has been conditionally admittedis not eligible for a graduate assistantship orscholarship until regularstatus has been achieved, unless an exception has been requested by theacademic program and approved by the graduate college.(c) ELS conditional admissionProspective international students may begranted an ELS conditional admission if they enroll in anELS language centerand work toward successfully completing level 112 from an ELS languagecenterrather than submit TOEFL or IELTS scores. Students enrolled at the ELS mayapply for regularadmission after successfully completing ELS level 112. Whileenrolled at ELS, students may notenroll in academic courses at BGSU or receivea graduate assistantship or scholarship. Furthermore,ELS conditional admissiondoes not guarantee admission to a graduate program.(d) Graduate non-degree statusGraduate non-degree status allows students topursue personal or professional goals by takinggraduate courses withoutenrolling in a certificate or degree program. degreestatus and successful completion of non-degree course work neither indicatesnor assuressubsequent admission to a certificate or degree program, nor doesit qualify a student for financialaid.A graduate non-degree student who wishes tobe considered for admission to a certificate or degreeprogram should followthe procedures outlined in the next section, degree program admissionrequirements.Some courses completed while on graduatenon-degree status may be applied toward a degreeprogram, contingent upon theapproval of the degree program and the graduate college. The nondegree studentis not limited to the number of credit hours taken at BGSU; however, only ninegraduate credit hours will transfer to a graduate degree program. In highdemand academic areas,degree candidates will have priority over graduatenon-degree students in registering for courses.Some specialized and clinicalareas of study are not available for enrollment with graduate nondegreestatus.(4) Admission requirements(a) Degree program admission requirementsApplicants to graduate degree programs at theuniversity must possess a bachelors degree from aregionally accreditedcollege or university and present evidence of broad and thorough undergraduatepreparation that indicates probable success in graduate study. Academicprograms may have higheradmission criteria and standards upon which admissionsdecisions are made. Prospective studentsshould check with the academicprograms to which they intend to apply for specific criteria.An applicant to a degree program will beevaluated for admission when the following materials aresubmitted to thegraduate college:(i) The application for admission;(ii) A non-refundable application fee of forty-five dollars for domestic students and seventy-fivedollars for international students (for each application submitted);Page 4

(iii) Standardized test scores as specified below (e.g., GRE, PRAXIS II, GMAT);(iv) Test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL), Michigan English language assessment battery(MELAB), pearson test of English (PTE), and international English language testing system(IELTS) for all whose first language is not English;(v) A copy of an unofficial transcript from each institution attended must be uploaded at the time ofapplication. Applicants must include all institutions attended regardless of the number or type ofcredits taken, terms attended, or whether transfer credits are reflected on another transcript. BowlingGreen state university transcripts do not need to be submitted; and(vi) Upon admission, an official transcript must be forwarded directly to the graduate college fromevery institution where a degree was earned. If the degree has not yet been conferred, final officialtranscripts (showing the date and degree earned) are required to be submitted to the graduatecollege as a condition of admission. Personal copies of transcripts are not acceptable. Transcripts"issued to student" are acceptable only if in a sealed envelope with the registrars stamp.Applicants must submit
