The Fourth Sunday of LentSilent Recessionals During LentDuring Lent, the Church asks us to surrender ourselvesto prayer and to the reading of Scripture, to fasting andto giving alms. During this 40 day period, we refrainfrom singing "Gloria" or "Alleluia" at Sunday Mass because this is a period to reflect on the last days of Jesus'life, and his crucifixion and death. In this same spirit,we will observe silence during liturgical recessionals, and we invite you to leave Mass in prayerful reflectioneach week during Lent. The PROJECT RACHEL ministry of the Archdioceseof Boston extends an invitation for post-abortion hopeand healing through its one-day “Come to the Waters ofHealing” retreat. Upcoming dates are March 28 andApril 25. Retreats are limited to 10 women and are held ata confidential location. Holy Ghost Parish Whitman, MAA MESSAGE FROM FATHER MAHONEYDear Parishioners of the Collaborative,The Fourth Sunday of Lent is called “Laetare” or“Rejoice” Sunday. The priests and deacons wear rosecolored vestments rather than purple ones, and the readings talk about the kindness and mercy of God. The Gospel reading from Saint John contains one of the mostquoted sentences from the New Testament: “For God soloved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish, but might haveeternal life” (3:16). God is the loving Father who willnot be satisfied, will not rest until all his children are safely home. He loves the unlovable and the unlovely; thelonely and forgotten; the sick and abandoned; those whocooperate with his grace, and those who refuse to cooperate with his grace; the greatest saint and the worst sinner. All these people, and more, are included in the boundlesslove of God. As Saint Augustine put it centuries ago:“God loves each one of us, as if there were only one of usto love.” Even if you were the only, single, human beingleft on earth, God would have still sent his Son, and thatSon would have died on the cross just to redeem you. That’s how much he loves you! That fact alone shouldcause us to rejoice on this Laetare Sunday. Try, if youwould, to share that type of love with those in your life.Invite a family member or neighbor or friend to come toChurch with you to experience that incredible love.Last Saturday the children in Grade 2 at Holy Ghost received their First Penance. They experienced the greatlove of God through reconciliation. They were all verygood sinners! Think about receiving the Sacrament yourself! Please keep them and the Grade 2 Students at St.Bridget’s in prayer as they prepare to receive Jesus for thefirst time in the Eucharist this spring.Deacon Chris Lowe, our Seminarian, is offering “The Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church” to our Collaborative. Even though the first 2 meetings have already takenplace, please join Deacon Chris next Saturday, March 21,at St. Bridget’s for the 3rd session at 10:00 a.m. The 4thSession will take place on the following Saturday, March27, at Holy Ghost in Fr. Glennon Hall at 10:00 a.m.St. Patrick’s Day is THIS Tuesday, March 17. St.Bridget’s is having a 10,000 Grand Prize Drawing in theParish Hall at St. Bridget’s. Wine, cheese and crackerswill be served. The proceeds are being used to pay for therepairs of the Church boiler and pipes which sprung manyleaks over the past few months, and to do some longoverdue work in the Meeting room and Sacristy.MARCH 15, 2015There are many tickets that need to be sold, please purchase yours this weekend. Feel free to attend the Drawingon Tuesday, March 17th and enjoy some fellowship, foodand the possibility to walk away a winner while at thesame time supporting the renovation efforts. The 2015 Catholic Appeal began last weekend.
