Brainstorm ideas in open class in order to see what vocabulary items pupils alreadyknow related to food.3. Then give pupils worksheet 1 for them to look for the words on the list. (With higherlevel pupils, you could ask them not to look at the list to make the wordsearch morechallenging).4. Once pupils have finished, go over the answers (making sure all the pupils have foundall the words) and illustrate each of them, answering any vocabulary questions they mayhave.5. With weaker groups, you can get pupils to translate them into their mother tongue or todraw them on the blackboard to make sure they understand what they mean.ANSWER HTAMHGTJFRGYIIRHTA W HSTJORGO TSAASRRVIG W BW DRAIANOEIFQGSCNQJTRONASREDEBXJXPOXPDAN QMacmillan Primary e-Toolkit Macmillan Iberia, S.A. 2016.

Ask pupils if they have ever played dominoes and show them a finished food domino setas an example.2. After that, give them worksheet 3A. Divide pupils into small groups (or use the same onesfrom the previous game) and tell them to write the words from worksheet 1 onto thedomino pieces and then illustrate them. (They should write the word on one piece anddo the drawing on another piece). Go round monitoring and making sure the pupils’drawings illustrate the words.3. WORLD FOOD DAYTEACHER’S NOTESACTIVITY 4: MY HEALTHY RECIPE (LEVELS 5-6)WORKSHEET 4: MY HEALTHY RECIPE1. Ask pupils how often they cook and how goodthey are at it.2. Then tell them they are now going to write a recipefor a dish they like. Show them a finished Englishrecipe as an example.LIFE SKILLS : This activity will fostercooperative learning, because thepupils will be brainstorming ideasand writing their recipes together insmall groups. It will also boost their creativity, because they will invent their ownrecipes. Finally, this activity will also raisetheir awareness on the importance ofhealthy eating, as the pupils will beencouraged to think of recipes thatare as healthy as possible.3. Next, divide pupils into small groups and get themto think of possible dishes for their recipes. They should think of the ingredients you needand the main steps to cook it. Additionally, you can ask fast-finishers to also think of usefultips.4. Go round monitoring and helping pupils with any vocabulary questions they may have.Remind them to try to make the recipe as healthy as possible. (To motivate higher-levelpupils, you could encourage them to come up with really creative dishes. Lower-levelpupils can simply translate a simple recipe they know in their mother tongue). You shouldask them to write their ideas on a separate piece of paper.5. Then give each group of pupils a copy of worksheet 4 for them to write their final versionafter you have proofread it. (It’s a good idea to print the recipe templates on A-3 colourpaper so they are posters and feel less like a standard writing task.)6. Once all the groups of pupils have written their recipes, you could put the posters uparound the classroom and ask pupils to go round and vote for the one they like best.7. As a follow-up task, you could also use the posters around the classroom to make acookery book. Also, if most dishes are desserts, you could ask the pupils to actually makethem and have a dessert tasting sample in class.Macmillan Primary e-Toolkit Macmillan Iberia, S.A. 2016.

Once pupils have finished, go over the answers (making sure all the pupils have found all the words), answering any vocabulary questions they may have. With weaker groups, you can get pupils to translate them into their mother tongue to make sure they understand what they mean. 3. Go round helping pupils with vocabulary questions they may have. 4.
