Read the following beforeusing four-wheel drive.

Cadillac Escalade Hybrid - 2013 - CRC - 3/19/121-2Black plate (2,1)In BriefAutomatic Transfer CaseThe transfer case knob is located tothe left of the instrument panelcluster. You can choose among fivedriving settings:2 m (Two-Wheel Drive High): Thissetting is used for driving in moststreet and highway situations.AUTO (Automatic Four-WheelDrive): This setting is ideal for usewhen road surface tractionconditions are variable.4 m (Four-Wheel Drive High): Usethe four-wheel high position whenyou need extra traction, such as onsnowy or icy roads or in mostoff-road situations.Hybrid Features4 n (Four-Wheel Drive Low): Thissetting delivers extra torque. Youmight choose Four-Wheel Drive Lowif you are driving off-road in deepsand, deep mud, deep snow, andwhile climbing or descending steephills. This vehicle has a standard 12-voltbattery and a high voltage hybridbattery. Only a trained servicetechnician with the properknowledge and tools should inspect, test, or replace the hybrid battery.See your dealer if the hybrid batteryneeds service.N (Neutral): Shift the vehicle'stransfer case to N (Neutral) onlywhen towing the vehicle. SeeRecreational Vehicle Towing onpage 10‑32 and “Towing theVehicle” in the owner manual. The 12-volt battery cables, in theengine compartment, are clearlylabeled. In emergency situations, first responders can cut thosecables to disable the high voltagehybrid battery system.See Four-Wheel Drive on page 9‑9.High Voltage SafetyInformation

Cadillac Escalade Hybrid - 2013 - CRC - 3/19/12Black plate (3,1)In BriefFuel Economy GaugeThis gauge shows when the vehicleis operating at a fuel efficient point.Driving behavior that improves fuelefficiency makes the fuel indicatormove to the high efficiency band onthe fuel gauge.See Fuel Economy Gauge onpage 5‑4 for more information.Automatic Engine Start/Stop FeatureMetricStart the engine as you would anyother engine. See “Starting theEngine” in the owner manual formore information on starting. Thehybrid system provides very quietengine starting. If pulling a trailerwith trailer brakes, see TrailerTowing on page 9‑15 for moreinformation.Auto StopEnglishThe vehicle has an Auto Stopfeature. After a successful enginestart, the engine may turn off andoperate in the Auto Stop mode.1-3Keep your foot firmly on the brakepedal until you are ready for thevehicle to move.Engine OFF and AUTO STOPmodes are indicated on thetachometer display. When thetachometer needle indicates OFF,the engine is not running and willremain off until the ignition key isplaced in the START position or aremote vehicle start is performed. When the tachometer needleindicates AUTO STOP, the hybridsystem is on, the engine is notrunning, but may Auto Start at anytime without notice. See Tachometeron page 5‑4 for more information.A chime will sound if the driver dooris opened while in Auto Stop as areminder that the ignition switch isnot in the LOCK/OFF position.Always turn the ignition switch toLOCK/OFF and remove the keyfrom the ignition switch when exitingthe vehicle.

Cadillac Escalade Hybrid - 2013 - CRC - 3/19/121-4Black plate (4,1)In BriefAuto StartThe vehicle also has an Auto Startfeature. The engine will remain offwhile in Auto Stop mode untilvehicle conditions require theengine to run. The near-instantstarting of the engine from AutoStop mode is called Auto Start.EV ModeThe vehicle also has an EV modewhich uses only the electric motorto move the vehicle. With lightacceleration, the vehicle will drive inEV mode. EV mode is unavailablewhen the vehicle is out of fuel. For more information on Auto Stop,Auto Start, and EV Mode, seeStarting the Vehicle on page 9‑2.Regenerative BrakingRegenerative braking enables theelectric drive motor to operate as agenerator when coasting or braking.Energy from the moving vehiclerecharges the hybrid battery. The hydraulic disc brakes work withthe regenerative braking to ensureeffective braking. The braking system is computercontrolled and blends theregenerative braking with theconventional hydraulic disc brakesto meet any requirements fordeceleration. Because the controllerapplies the hydraulic brakes throughits high pressure accumulator, youmay occasionally hear the motordriven pump when it recharges thesystem. This is normal. In the eventof a controller problem, the brakepedal may be harder to push andthe stopping distance may belonger.See Regenerative Braking onpage 9‑14.BatteryThis vehicle has a standard 12-voltbattery and a high voltage hybridbattery. When a new standard12-volt battery is needed, see yourdealer for one that has thereplacement number shown on theoriginal battery's label. Only atrained service technician with theproper knowledge and tools shouldinspect, test, or replace the hybridbattery. See your dealer if the hybridbattery needs service. See Batteryon page 10‑10.ServiceNever try to do your own service onhybrid components. You can beinjured and the vehicle can bedamaged if you try to do your ownservice work. Service and repair ofthese hybrid components shouldonly be performed by a trainedservice technician with the properknowledge and tools. See DoingYour Own Service Work onpage 10‑1.

This light could indicatethat there are electrical problems.Have it checked right away. If ashort distance must be driven withthe light on, be certain to turn off allthe accessories.5-5The vehicle brake system consistsof two hydraulic circuits. If onecircuit is not working, the remainingcircuit can still work to stop thevehicle. For normal brakingperformance, both circuits need tobe working. If the warning light comes on and achime sounds there could be abrake problem. Have the brakesystem inspected right away. This light also comes on due to lowbrake fluid. See the owner manualfor more information.Brake System WarningLightThis 12‐volt battery light comes onbriefly when the ignition is turned toON/RUN, but the engine is notrunning, as a check to show it isworking. With the ignition in ON/RUN, thebrake system warning light comeson when the parking brake is set.If the vehicle is driven with theparking brake engaged, a chimesounds when the vehicle speed isgreater than 8 km/h (5 mph).MetricEnglishThis light should come on brieflywhen the ignition key is turned toON/RUN.
