The new law will start on 1st April 2016.The new law wants to make Wales a better place to live for youtoo live in now and for people in the future.This easy read tells you about the important facts.You may want to know more. A Guide to the Wellbeing of Future Generations ActWhy we need the new lawThe new law says that public bodies in Wales must think aboutpeople now and in the future when they make their decisions.Wales has lots of challenges. These challenges are things like: climate change poverty some people with poor health and jobs.In order to make things better everyone needs to work together.We need to think about what people need now.But also how that will affect people in the future.3

Welsh Ministers Local Authorities Local Health Boards Public Health Wales NHS Trust Velindre NHS Trust National Park Authorities Fire and Rescue AuthoritiesPublic Bodies are things like local councils, the NHS, Fire and rescuethat provide us with services like doctors surgeries, schools andcollect our bins.4

These are the Wellbeing Goals:12763541 A globally responsible Wales2A prosperous Wales3A resilient Wales4A healthier Wales5A more equal Wales6 Wales of cohesiveAcommunities7 Wales of vibrant cultureAand thriving Welsh languageThe public bodies must work on all of the goals, not just oneor two.6

This means they need to think about being sustainable.To be sustainable, they have to think about: The long term How to stop problemshappening in the firstplaceBeing sustainable means using the things we need to live ourlives but making sure that there are still enough left for futuregenerations.7
