We are continuallylooking for ways to help that empowers and does not diminish therecipient. The road to self-sufficiency is a bumpy path of small steps.Last year we implemented a digital Food Pantry. Instead of the Pantry volunteer deciding what food would go in a family’s bags, noweach applicant orders their own food from computers in our lobby.Volunteers can quickly fill the order and know that the items werejust what the family wanted. Who knew some families wanted beets or bladder pads?We also started a small pilot program, called Family Future Strong, for single parents miredin generational poverty. Under the guidance of our Academic Partner Kennesaw State University, we contracted with a small number of parents to design a personalized plan to breakthe cycle through education, training and long term case management and support.We increased our efforts to help our partners understand the challenges and needs of our lowincome neighbors. Can you imagine worrying about being deported, or not being able topay the rent, put dinner on the table, or have a place to sleep tonight? Our Volunteer teamnow offers a Poverty Simulation where attendees learn through role-play. Board President BruceGunning discusses this initiative elsewhere in this Report.NFCC has a long history of marshalling volunteers, donors and resources to build relationships with those in our community who need help and, working together, find solutions.Whatever success we have is directly attributable to the generosity of partners like you.Thank you.Services & SupportCase Management and Emergency Financial Assistance: NFCC gives direct aid for rent, utilities,medical, transportation and other basic needs to residents on an emergency basis. 1,195,346 in direct assistance was providedin 2016. Outcome studies confirm 92% of families assisted maintain stable housing for 90 days.Food Pantry: NFCC distributes over 9 tons of food and staple goods each week. 2,299 households received food in 2016.Thrift Shop: This service supports hundreds of families with clothing, household and furniture needs. 1,380 families receivedfree items in 2016; others paid a nominal fee. The value of free items was 320,826 in 2016.Family Enrichment Program: Classes in budgeting, English language, GED preparation, Budgeting, Successful Job Search, Citizenship, computer literacy and life skills help move families toward self sufficiency. Individual Job Coaching, financial counseling, benefits screening, legal advice, health insurance navigation and tax preparation available. Child attendant available forweekend and evening classes. Classes open to all but may be required for families seeking repeat assistance.Multi-Generational Poverty Pilot: Working with a small number of families to identify and overcomebarriers due to multi-generational poverty in partnership with Kennesaw State U, School of Social Work.Holiday & Special Assistance: Holiday assistance to 777 families in 2016. SchoolSupplies; Winter Coats; donated automobiles.Advocacy: NFCC works with local community and non-profit groups to coordinateservices and advocate for unmet needs and services, including housing for homeless, food security, affordable housing, transportation, and health coverage.
