IN TR O D U C T IO N1. Industry StandardFirestone has developed a wide range of tire patterns andspecifications, so that the proper Off-the-Road tire can bematched to any vehicle, service, or operating conditions.Load capacities, inflation pressures, dimensions such as overalltire diameter and width, as well as the relative rims and tubevalves follow these standards.Firestone’s Off-the-Road tires are designed and produced tomeet the commonly accepted international standards, thoseset by the TRA (Tire and Rim Association) in the U.S.A., by theETRTO (European Tire and Rim Technical Organization) inEurope and/or by the JATMA (Japan Automobile TireManufacturers’ Association) in Japan*.If a tire is to be used for a purpose other than that for which itis originally intended, please consult Firestone Corporation foradvice.*Where differences exist between the TRA, ETRTO and JATMAstandards, Firestone selects the most applicable.2. 2. Definitions2.1 Tire SizeThe size of each tire is indicated by nominal width and rimdiameter in inches and mm.Radial structure is indicated by the letter “R”. For some tirethe aspect ratio is indicated by percentage.2.5 Section Width (SW)“Section Width” is the width of a new tire, including 24- hourinflation growth and including normal sidewalls, but notincluding protective side ribs, bars, or decorations.ExampleRadial Tire ; 40.00R57, 33.25R35, 445/95R25 Bias Tire ;21.00-35, 45/65-452.6 Static Loaded Radius and Width (SLR, SLW)“Static Loaded Radius” is the shortest distance from the axlecenter to the contact surface of a tire and “Static LoadedWidth” is the overall width of a tire, mounted on the approvedrim at the specified inflation pressure and placed still andvertically on a flat board, and loaded with the specified load.2.2 Star Rating, Ply Rating and Load IndexThe load capacity of a tire is indicated by the star rating (incase of radial tire) and the ply rating (in case of bias tire). The load index is applied in countries where the ETRTOstandards are used.2.3 Overall Diameter (OD)“Overall Diameter” is twice the section height of a new tire, plus the nominal rim diameter, including 24-hour inflationgrowth.2.7 Original Tread Depth (OTD)“Original Tread Depth” is the tread depth of a new tiremeasured at the point of tread-indicator where available orone-fourth the width of the tire crown section from the crowncenter, including 24-hour inflation growth.2.4 Overall Width (OW)“Overall Width” is the width of a new tire, including 24- hourinflation growth, and including protective side ribs, bars ordecorations.Overall Width (OW)Section Width (SW)Tread WidthFreeRadiusSectionHeight(SH)Rim Flange HeightRim WidthOverallDiameter(OD)Nominal RimDiameterDualSpacingStatic LoadedRadius(SLR)Static LoadedWidth(SLW)6
