Important safety instructions WarningIn order to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injuries,persons operating the appliance must adhere to the followingsafety precautions: It is essential to read the operating instructions before using thewashing machine. GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONSThe washing machine must be grounded. Connecting the applianceto ground reduces the danger of electric shock in the event of amalfunction. The grounding is a protective conductor which providesa path of least resistance for the current. The washing machinecomes complete with a power cord and plug with the correspondingprotective conductor. The power cord plug must be inserted into asuitable outlet that has been installed and grounded in compliancewith all applicable local codes. WARNING: Incorrect grounding of the appliance will run the risk ofelectric shock. In case of doubt, get in touch with a qualifiedelectrician and arrange to have your cabling inspected. Do not replace or make any changes to the plug supplied. If thereis no suitable socket available, a socket must be installed by aqualified electrician. Do not use a damaged washing machine. Do not expose the washing machine to outdoor weatherconditions. Do not install the washing machine in an area where there is a riskof freezing conditions. Frozen hoses may burst or split, and thereliability of the electronic control unit may be impaired attemperatures below freezing point.6

Important safety instructions Before connecting the washing machine, make sure that theconnection data on the data plate (voltage and connected load)match the domestic electricity supply. If in doubt, request theconnection data from a qualified electrician. Do not connect the washing machine to the domestic electricitysupply by a multi-socket adapter, extension lead or similar. These donot guarantee the required safety of the machine (fire hazard due tothe risk of overheating). The washing machine is not intended for maritime applications orfor use in mobile units such as motor homes or aircraft. However,installation in such scenarios may be possible under certainconditions. Get in touch with Miele's Technical Service departmentregarding these specific requirements. Do not make any changes or repairs on the washing machine ifthis is not expressly permitted in these operating instructions. Only Miele is permitted to replace a damaged power cord. Mieleservice technicians use original power cords from Miele. If hot-water systems are not used for longer than two weeks, theremay be a buildup of hydrogen under certain conditions. HYDROGENIS EXPLOSIVE. If the hot-water systems have not been in use forlonger than two weeks, allow hot water to run from all valves forseveral minutes before operating the washing machine. This reducesthe formation of hydrogen. Refrain from smoking and keep awayfrom naked flames while the water valves are open. The gas will beflammable during this time. Remove the door or destroy the door lock before disposing of thewashing machine.7

Important safety instructionsUse Children are not allowed to play with, on, or inside the washingmachine. If you are operating the washing machine in the presenceof children, the children must be supervised at all times. The temperature of the porthole glass becomes very high duringwashing. Danger of burning! Refrain from touching the portholeglass. You must therefore keep children away from the porthole glassduring the wash cycle. Only use the washing machine for washing fabrics with a carelabel stating that they are suitable for machine washing. Otherapplications may be dangerous. Do not wash any fabrics which have been cleaned, washed, orsoaked with cleaning agents containing solvents (e.g. benzine) orother flammable substances. These fabrics release vapours whichcan ignite or explode. Do not add these kinds of fabric to a load ofwashing. Do not use any solvents or other flammable substances orexplosive materials in the washing machine. These materials canrelease vapours which can ignite or explode. Never use solvent based cleaning agents on or in the washingmachine. Surfaces are damaged on contact with cleaning agents. Always make sure that the drum is stationary before reaching in toremove laundry. Do not touch the drum whilst it is still rotating. Do not make any alterations to the machine.KEEP THESE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS IN A SAFEPLACE8

Important safety instructions Miele tumble dryers and Miele washing machines can be installedas a washer-dryer stack. A Miele washer-dryer connection kit isrequired as an optional accessory for this. Please ensure that thewasher-dryer connection kit is suitable for the Miele tumble dryerand the Miele washing machine. If installing the machine on a Miele plinth (available as an optionalaccessory), please make sure you order the correct one for thiswashing machine. Should detergent enter the eyes, rinse out immediately with plentyof lukewarm water. If accidentally ingested, seek medical adviceimmediately. People who have sustained damage to the skin or whohave sensitive skin should avoid contact with the detergent. The maximum dry laundry weight is 17.6 lb (8 kg). See the“Program chart” for the maximum recommended loads for individualprograms. This product may contain chemicals know to the state ofCalifornia to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductiveharm.9

Miele recommends using Miele descaler for washing machines which is available to order online at shop.miele.com (depending on country) or from Miele. Strictly observe the instructions on the packaging. Textiles which have been pre-treated in solvent based cleaning agents must be thoroughly rinsed in clean water before being washed in the machine.

Read the operating instructions carefully before using the washing machine. They contain important information on safety, installa-tion, use and maintenance. This prevents both personal injury and damage to the washing machine. In accordance with standard IEC 60335-1, Miele expres

strongly advises that you read and follow the instructions in the chapter on installing the washing machine as well as the safety instructions and warnings.
