!Warhol Selfie's: Creating Pop Art using Photoshop.For this tutorial we will create a Pop Art Portrait based on the iconic screen prints ofcelebrities and other famous people by Andy Warhol.Choose a photo of someone you would like to make into a portrait. Save that image to thedesk top. To import this image into Photoshop simply drag the file from the desktop toPhotoshop.Follow along as I go through these steps to create a Pop Art Portrait.1. If your image is in color you must de-saturate by hitting Command Shift U on yourkey board or by going to Image Adjustments De-saturate.2. We now need to make sure that the image size and resolution for the filters that wewill be using. So, go to Image Image Size.3. A window will appear. Click on the Chain Link to lock its aspect ratio. This will keepits proportions intact. Type in 500 Pixels for Width and 72 pixels for the Resolution.Click OK.

!4. To fit the image back onto your screen hit Command 0.5. To make the darkest areas back and the whitest areas white, invoke auto tone byhitting Command Shift L.6. We now need to make a selection around the subject to separate it from itsbackground. We will use the pencil tool (hidden under the brush tool). Make the Size10 Pixels and the Hardness 100%.7. If your foreground and background colors are not black and white, hit D on yourkeyboard now.8. Click the Quick Mask Button so we can draw a quick mask. This is located under theforeground and background colors on your tool panel. It should look like a rectanglewith a black circle in the middle when selected.!!!!!

!9. Draw loosely around the figure and make sure there is no openings in your quick mask.!!!!!!!!!!!10. Open your Paint Bucket Tool (hidden under gradient tool) and click down anywhereinside of the Quick Mask.!!!

!11.Hit Q to turn the quick mask into a selection. Now Fill the selection with white.12. Make a copy of your image by selecting the active layer and hitting Command J.13.Go to Filter Filter Gallery.14. Open the Sketch Folder and select halftone pattern. Make the Size 1, Contrast 40, and the Pattern Type Dot. Depending on the characteristics of your photo youmight want to adjust the contrast amount. There should be a good balance of shadowand highlight with some midtones as halftone dots. Click Ok to accept.

!15.Go to Filter Sharpen Smart Sharpen. Make the Amount 500%, Radius 1 px,and Remove Gaussian Blur. Click OK.16. We now have a crisp half tone black and white portrait.17.With uppermost layer selected change the blend mode to Multiply.18. Go to the Create New Layer Icon in the layers panel and Command Click the icon tocreate a new layer below the active layer.!

!19. We will fill this empty layer with a color by clicking on the foreground color to openthe Color Picker.20.Pick a color you would like for your background. Hit Enter.21. Hit Option Delete to fill in the background with color. We will do the skin next.22. Click on the foreground color box to open the Color Picker again. Choose a color youwould like for the skin.23. Open the pencil tool by hitting B on your keyboard. To increase its size hit the RightBracket Key " ] ". Now paint in the areas of skin on your subject. Do not worry at thismoment about the color of the other areas on your subject, we will paint those in overthe skin.24.To paint in the whites of the eyes, or anything else you want painted white, hit " X "on your keyboard. This will invert the foreground and background colors. To decreasethe size of your brush press the left angle bracket " [ ".25. Now paint in the other parts of your image. Your image should look like something likemine below.You have just created some amazing Pop Art just like Andy Warhol without the hassle ofburning multiple screens! Now You will create 3 of these portrait by 2/27/2015.
