The Key ToThe SupernaturalBy Kenneth W. HaginThe Lord has been showing me forsometime now that the key to the lastday move of the supernatural power ofGod will be found in two words: “unity”and “accord.”According to the dictionary, theword “unity” means “the state of beingone or united; oneness; singleness.”Another definition is “the quality ofbeing one in spirit, sentiment, purpose,etc.” Unity also “implies oneness, as inspirit, aims, interests, feelings, etc.,of that which is made up of diverseelements of individuals.”“Accord” means almost the same thing:“to make, agree or harmonize; to be inagreement or harmony; mutual agreement;

4harmony; all agreeing; with no onedissenting.”The Theme of ActsIf you have ever studied Bible history, you will know that unity (or accord) actually is the theme of the Book of Acts. Theword “accord,” for example, is found 11times in this book: Acts 1:14; 2:1; 2:46;4:24; 5:12; 7:57; 8:6; 12:20; 15:25; 18:12;and 19:29.In the King James Version, the words“unity” and “accord” are used interchangeably. The meaning of “accord” inthe following verses from Acts is “beingone in spirit, purpose, aim, and so forth.”ACTS 1:1414 These all continued WITH ONEACCORD in prayer and supplication. . . .ACTS 2:11 And when the day of Pentecost wasfully come, they were all WITH ONEACCORD in one place.

5ACTS 2:4646 And they, continuing daily WITHONE ACCORD in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eattheir meat with gladness, and singleness of heart. . . .ACTS 4:2424 And when they heard that, theylifted up their voice to God WITH ONEACCORD. . . .ACTS 5:1212 And by the hands of the apostles weremany signs and wonders wrought amongthe people; (and they were all WITH ONEACCORD in Solomon’s porch.ACTS 8:66 And the people WITH ONE ACCORDgave heed unto those things which Philipspake, hearing and seeing the miracleswhich he did.ACTS 12:2020 And Herod was highly displeasedwith them of Tyre and Sidon: but theycame WITH ONE ACCORD to him. . . .

6ACTS 15:2525 It seemed good unto us, being assembled WITH ONE ACCORD, to send chosenmen unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul.(The same concept is found in Romans15:6 “That ye may with one mindand one mouth glorify God, even theFather of our Lord Jesus Christ.”)Unity in the Early ChurchTremendous things happened in theBook of Acts. Let’s study these Scriptures. In Acts 1, we see the New Testamentbelievers continuing “with one accord” inprayer and supplication. In Acts 2 we find them worshippingdaily “with one accord” in the Templeand eating their meals with gladness and“singleness of heart.”In the third chapter of Acts, we seePeter and John healing a crippled man atthe Gate Beautiful. The people rejoiced, but

7the religious leaders got upset and calledthe two apostles before the Sanhedrin. When these rulers of the people andelders of Israel heard Peter and John, theymarveled: “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived thatthey were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledgeof them, that they had been with Jesus”(Acts 4:13).Because all of the people were for Peterand John, the leaders were afraid to doanything to them. They threatened themand let them go. The fourth chapter ofActs records the mighty prayer meetingthe believers held.ACTS 4:23–24,29–3223 And being let go, they went to theirown company, and reported all that thechief priests and elders had said untothem.24 And when they heard that, they liftedup their voice to God WITH ONE

8ACCORD, and said, Lord, thou art God,which hast made heaven, and earth, andthe sea. . . .29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speakthy word,30 By stretching forth thine hand toheal; and that signs and wondersmay be done by the name of thy holychild Jesus.31 And when they had prayed, the placewas shaken where they were assembledtogether; and they were all filled withthe Holy Ghost, and they spake the wordof God with boldness.32 And the multitude of them thatbelieved were of one heart and ofone soul. . . .Did those believers get down and pray,“And now, Lord, behold their threatenings:and grant unto thy servants grace to endurethe persecution and hardships. Grant thatwe can hold out faithful to the end”?Is that what your Bible says? No, that’snot what it says.

9Look closely at these verses. Grasp theconcepts of “unity” and “accord” expressedhere. There could have been more than3,000 praying here. It wasn’t just thetwo apostles praying; it was the wholecompany of believers in Jerusalem. We know that 120 persons wereassembled on the Day of Pentecost, and3,000 more came to the Lord after Peterpreached his message that day. Thatmakes 3,120 believers. There may havebeen still more in the company who hadaccepted the Lord after witnessing thehealing of the crippled man, because Acts4:21 says, “all men glorified God for thatwhich was done.”The rulers had warned Peter and Johnnot to speak “in that name.” (Theycouldn’t bring themselves even to say theName of Jesus.) But in verse 30 we seethe believers praying “by the name ofthy holy child Jesus.”

10Unity: The Key to the SupernaturalVerse 31 is the one I like: “the placewas shaken where they were assembledtogether.”When we in the Body of Christ begin tounite ourselves in the unity and power ofthe Word of God, we’re going to see someplaces shaken as they never have beenshaken before. The reason the supernatural power of God has not been demonstrated as God would have liked in yearsgone by is because believers got in unityonly at times.I believe in this last day before JesusChrist comes again there is going to comea unity among the Body of Christ thatthe world has never seen before, and thepower of God is going to be demonstratedas never before!Somebody once asked me, “Ken, whydid we see such a move of the supernaturalpower of God the last week of July at theTulsa Campmeeting in 1978?”

11I replied, “I don’t really know for sure, but I have some ideas.” That was whenGod began to deal with me about unity.Every night of that particular Campmeeting, there were at least 10,000 peoplein the Tulsa Assembly Center. Thosepeople were bound together in singlenessof mind upon the Word of God. Not uponemotionalism. Not upon sensationalism. Not upon some human personality. And when that many people get together in unity and power, God Almighty overcomes every obstacle and demonstratesHis supernatural power! The four ministries that cooperated in the Campmeeting—the KennethHagin, Kenneth Copeland, John Osteen, and Fred Price ministries—were inunity and accord. They were not there tolift up any man.Although we are diverse individualsfrom diverse backgrounds, and although wehave different names over our ministries,

12we must come into this kind of unity andharmony. As long as basic doctrine is based onthe Word of God, we must recognize thewhole Body of Christ, even though wedo not see eye-to-eye with all groups onpetty idiosyncrasies.(Some of the men may not wear theirhair short enough for you. They may wearflashy suits. Some of the women may puton makeup. You may think the womenshould wear short hair, drab suits, and nomakeup. That’s what I mean when I talkabout little idiosyncrasies.)Laborers TogetherWe need to forget these incidentalsand unite ourselves on the Word of God tofight this last-day onslaught of the enemy.Satan is going to bring every power fromthe depths of hell against God’s peopleand all humanity in these last days. TheWord of God says he has come “to steal,

13and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10).Satan knows his time is short, and he’sgoing to give it everything he’s got.As we band together, however, in theunity of the word of God, the Body ofChrist will rise in triumphant powerover Satan—because he already has beendefeated! One person may say, “Oh, I’m a follower of Hagin.” Another may say, “I sort offollow Copeland.” Still another may say,“I like this one or that one.”That reminds me of what the ApostlePaul wrote in First Corinthians 3:1 CORINTHIANS 3:3–93 For ye are yet carnal: for whereasthere is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, andwalk as men?4 For while one saith, I am of Paul;and another, I am of Apollos; are ye notcarnal?5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, evenas the Lord gave to every man?

146 I have planted, Apollos watered; butGod gave the increase.7 So then neither is he that plantethany thing, neither he that watereth; butGod that giveth the increase.8 Now he that planteth and he thatwatereth are one: and every man shallreceive his own reward according to hisown labour.9 For we are labourers together withGod: ye are God’s husbandry, ye areGod’s building. The Lord Is Your ShepherdPaul is saying. “It doesn’t matter whobrought you the Gospel as long as youwere saved by the blood, power, and Lordship of the Lord Jesus Christ.”No matter who brought you into thefaith—Kenneth Hagin, your pastor, orsome other minister—you are not following a man. You are not following man’sdoctrine. You are following the Wordof God—the doctrine of the Lord JesusChrist.Paul also said, “But though we, oran angel from heaven, preach any other

15gospel unto you than that which we havepreached unto you, let him be accursed”(Gal. 1:8). Notice that Paul even includeshimself in that statement.Too many people have things out ofperspective. They have taken a revelationGod gave to one man, grabbed a portionof it, ran off, and perverted it. Forgetabout human personalities and lift upthe Word!Jesus said, “And I, if I be lifted up fromthe earth, will draw all men unto me”(John 12:32). Not if Kenneth Hagin islifted up. Not if you are lifted up. But ifJesus Christ is lifted up. That is part ofthe unity we must come into.We must forget about our own ministries and fellowships. We must forgetabout who we are and what we want tobe. We must unite ourselves around theWord of God. As we do, we will see ourselves ushered into an age of the supernatural power of God. Jesus promised:

16JOHN 14:1212 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He thatbelieveth on me, the works that I do shallhe do also; and GREATER WORKS thanthese shall he do; because I go unto myFather. We have yet to see all these greaterworks to be accomplished, because theChurch of the Lord Jesus Christ hasfailed to unite, and therefore the power ofGod has been unable to move.Where there is unity, every gift of theSpirit and every fruit of the Spirit will bein operation. Then and only then can thesupernatural power of God move.Do you know why most people are notin unity and harmony? Because they don’thave enough of the Word of God—enoughpower—in them. How can the gifts of theSpirit or the fruit of the Spirit operate inthem?Too many Christians have forgottenGalatians 5:22–23, where the fruit of the

17Spirit is listed: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. All of these need tobe in demonstration.Spiritual DisciplineA lot of people want to talk about faith. They want to talk about their confessionand what they can have through theirconfession. However, they do not wantyou to talk to them about the fruit of theSpirit. They do not want you to talk tothem about being meek or patient. Theyespecially do not want you to talk to themabout love, because love carries manyconnotations—and one of the connotations love carries is discipline.Hear me, Body of Christ: One of theconnotations love carries is discipline!People don’t like to hear that word. If youcome to RHEMA Bible Training Center, the first thing you will hear me teach inPractical Ministries is, “To be successful

18in the ministry, you must learn to discipline yourself in the spiritual realm theway you do in the natural.”I am not talking about being disciplinedaccording to somebody’s theological idea.I am not talking about being disciplinedaccording to somebody’s constitution andbylaws. I am talking about being disciplined according to the Word of God.I think it’s time we quit having spiritual taffy thrown into the lap of an alreadydiabetic congregation.I think it’s time preachers reacheddown into the Word of God and beganto dish out what the Word has to say, because we have come to the time theApostle Paul was telling Timothy about:2 TIMOTHY 4:3–43 For the time will come when theywill not endure sound doctrine; but aftertheir own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;4 And they shall turn away their ears

19from the truth, and shall be turned untofables.I think it’s time we come into the unityof the Word of God concerning salvation, the Holy Spirit, healing, faith, operationof the gifts of the Spirit, the fruit of theSpirit, biblical theology, and many otherthings.A lot of people are talking about theHoly Spirit these days, but I’ve got newsfor you: There are a lot more peopletalking about the Holy Spirit than haveactually experienced the infilling of theHoly Spirit. When you are truly born again, thereis a change in your life. Similarly, whenyou truly experience the infilling of theHoly Spirit, there is a change in yourlife. Holy boldness and the supernaturalpower of God become resident and theyare quickly discerned by the spirituallyaware.

20Strife in WorshipAnother area where unity is neededis the area of worship. If we are to havethe power to do the greater works Jesuspromised, we must unify ourselves inworship. Charismatics and other churchpeople have had great problems inthis area. One of the reasons the supernatural power of God has been hampered isbecause there is strife in worship. Thedevil is subtle and cunning. It goes backto the verse that says, “the little foxes(little things) . . . spoil the vines . . .” (Songof Solomon 2:15).Churches, fellowships, prayer groups—whatever you want to call them—aretoo quick to criticize fellow believers.Perhaps one group jumps and hollersin its worship. People in another groupacross town just raise their hands andquietly worship. Those in the first group

21think the second should be just like them. And the quiet ones are quick to criticizethe whoopers and hollerers. That’s strife. That’s not unity. How can you expect thepower of God to operate at its fullest inthese conditions? Then one church does somethinganother doesn’t approve of. One church, strong in faith, believes God to supplyits needs. The other church is not quiteup to that level of faith yet so it holds arummage or bake sale. Those in the firstchurch are quick to say, “Bless God, if youhad faith, you wouldn’t have to have oneof those sales!”Yes, bless God, but if you’ve ever readthe Apostle Paul, you would know he said,“If you are strong in faith, don’t criticizethe one who is weaker in faith.” There isno unity or harmony where the strong infaith are criticizing the weak in faith.

22Those strong in faith should be willingto fellowship with the others. They shouldworship with them, even if it goes acrosstheir grain sometimes. They should workwith them until they can raise them totheir own level of faith. Then they willsee the supernatural power of God indemonstration. When my dad was pastoring a certainchurch many years ago, he couldn’t getone of his Sunday School teachers tobelieve for her healing. She was scheduled for surgery. Finally Dad said to her, “Listen, whatcan you believe for?”She answered, “I can believe that theoperation will be a success. I can believefor a miraculously quick recovery.”He said, “Okay. Now I’ve got something.”He came down from his high level of faithwhen he realized he couldn’t raise herlevel of faith any. He didn’t criticize her.

23He found out on which level he couldagree with her, then he agreed with her.You might say, “You mean that man offaith went down there and agreed withher that the doctors would perform aperfect operation and that her recoverywould be miraculous?”Yes, he did. According to the prayer ofagreement, he put his faith with hers. She went to the hospital and had theoperation. At that time, years and yearsago, the doctors did not have all the technology we have today, and her operationwas considered major surgery.Afterwards the doctors insisted shehave a shot for pain, even though she wasin no pain. That’s the only medication sheneeded. She was up and out of that hospital in no time. Miraculous! They got whatthey believed for.It wasn’t long until Dad was ableto increase her faith so that she couldbelieve God for more. Finally he had herto the point that every time there was a

24problem in her life, she used her faith. She did not need to go back for any moreoperations. That was unity in practice.Application to Spiritual LifeNow let’s bring it over and apply it tothe spiritual life. Unity is the only thingthat will work if you want to see the powerof God work and the “greater works.”Pastors, don’t be afraid you will losesome of your church members to anotherchurch if you cooperate with them. Don’tbe afraid you will lose some of yourprayer group if you begin to fellowshipwith another group.Get interested in building the Kingdomof God and not your own little kingdom, andyou will find that things will work out muchbetter for you. You see, too many ministershave this backwards. Each is interested inbuilding only his own ministry.

25That’s one thing reporters from theTulsa newspapers can’t understandabout my father at our annual Campmeeting, which attracts thousands ofpeople to Tulsa. Dad sits down and letsother ministers get up and speak in hisservices. The reporters just can’t understand that kind of unselfishness. When we are working together in loveand unity, we will prefer one another. We will not be interested in building ourown ministries. We will be interested onlyin building the Kingdom of God.It says in Psalm 75:6–7, “Promotioncometh neither from the east, nor from thewest, nor from the south. But God is thejudge: he putteth down one, and settethup another.” If you do your part in building the Kingdom, God will promote you.If you are worried about getting yourselfpromoted and are busy trying to get recognition for what you have done, forgetabout getting promoted.

26If you want to get recognized, get onyour knees and pray. Always be full of loveand full of the Word of God. Be availableto help when something needs to be donearound the church. It won’t be long untilyou will be recognized from the platform. Some people just can’t realize thatif they would get into the Word and befaithful where God has them, they wouldbe ready to be promoted when the propertime came. The Apostle Paul continually warned usabout giving more importance to ourselvesthan we should. He continually stressed theneed for unity.Where there is no unity, strife comes in.Then division. Then faith quits working. And when faith quits working, sicknesscomes in, financial disaster appears, spiritual stagnation sets in and everythingbecomes a mess. Simply because somebody thought more highly of himself thanhe should have.

27You and I have the greatest opportunity of any generation that has ever lived;greater even than the work the apostlesfaced. Our opportunity includes bindingourselves together t

10 unity: The Key to the supernatural Verse 31 is the one I like: “the place was shaken where they were assembled together.” When we in the Body of Christ begin to unite ourselves in the unity and power of the Word of God, we’re going to see some places shaken as they never have been shaken before. Supernatural events or beliefs are those that do not conform to our current understanding of the laws of nature. Our Sources are full of apparently supernatural events caused by God and man. Many people strongly believe in the supernatural. What does the Torah say about it? The Torah seems to resolutely forbid engaging in supernatural activities:
